65: Chapter 65 Fierce Battle Against the Beast Tide! The Lioness’s Surprise Attack”Open fire!”

At the command of the Captain Company Commander, the hundred soldiers of the Assault Company, who had been itching for action, opened fire instantly!

The next second, the dense sound of gunfire shattered the darkness of the forest!

”Da da da!!!”

”Dong dong dong!!!”

The sound of gunfire was like a red rainstorm; muzzle flashes flickered, and the bullets pouring out continuously shot toward the figures lurking in the surrounding darkness!

”Roar!!!”

Painful low roars immediately echoed through the forest.

Through the soldiers’ night-vision goggles, one could clearly see the group of figures hidden in the darkness retreating.

More and more people began flooding into the livestream, and when they saw this scene, they couldn’t help but exclaim.

”Is that it?! Didn’t they say the outskirts were dangerous? I thought the outskirts of Jianghai City were filled with terrifying beasts like lion prides everywhere.”

”Yeah, I didn’t expect them to be repelled by the Assault Company so quickly. These beasts in the outskirts aren’t all that... They aren’t as terrifying as the officials claimed!”

”Stop talking big. You have to realize this is a fully armed, well-equipped hundred-man Assault Company, and even they have to be on high alert when facing these beasts in the darkness. If ordinary people like us went into the mountains, we wouldn’t even have bones left by now...”

”Sigh... That’s true. In the past, you rarely saw even small animals in the outskirts of Jianghai City; how could there be so many animals appearing now...”

”Stop talking, the battle is almost over!”

Although the citizens of Jianghai City in front of their screens couldn’t see the specific battle situation, they could distinguish from the gradually weakening gunfire of the soldiers that the beasts in the darkness had been driven away.

The cameraman, Xiao Li, was covered in cold sweat, but a relaxed smile appeared on his face.

”Sister Wang, those beasts should have been driven away.”

”Yeah...”

Reporter Wang Xiaoli also breathed a sigh of relief, and the sense of crisis was rapidly fading.

The Captain Company Commander looked through his night-vision goggles and saw the beasts gradually retreating; his heart relaxed.

”It seems this mission isn’t as simple as it looks...”

Based on his observations of the surrounding soldiers just now, those beasts had consumed about one-fifth of their ammunition in a very short time, and they hadn’t even seen the mission’s target, the lion pride, yet. If there were more beasts deep in the forest...

This mission might end in failure...

Just when everyone thought the battle was about to end.

”Roar!!!”

That roar from before, which had incited the beasts to attack, sounded again!

”Roar!!!”

”Bellow!!!”

”Howl!!!”

The animals that had retreated all roared in unison once again and surged toward them!

Intense gunfire rang out immediately after!

But this time, the beasts in the dark shadows were stirred into a frenzy, completely ignoring the fierce bullets as they moved rapidly forward!

Some beasts rushed to within ten meters of the Assault Company’s temporary resting spot, their faces exposed under the lights of the campsite.

Tigers, leopards, gray wolves, black bears, and even a few Brown Bears the size of small trucks!

Not only these predatory animals, but among them were also large black oxen, nimble spotted deer, wild boars...

These complex and massive animals formed a small beast tide, charging toward them recklessly, their violent eyes filled with wildness!

”Quick! Don’t let this group of animals get close! Don’t conserve ammunition!”

The Captain Company Commander immediately ordered!

The firepower increased sharply in an instant.

The beasts’ advance was halted, and large amounts of blood and shredded flesh constantly splattered.

The beasts in the tide let out painful roars from time to time, and one after another, they fell, getting stuck in a stalemate...

I don’t know how much time had passed.

The beast tide stopped, and the shadows in the darkness were moving away into the distance, which meant the soldier company had won!

At this moment, the sky had just turned white, and the sun was rising from behind the high mountains.

They could also see the animal carcasses covering the surrounding field, as well as the tattered trees; the ground was full of branches and leaves knocked down by gunfire.

”There must be at least sixty animal carcasses piled up here!”

”Yeah! Why would so many beasts attack the Assault Company’s camp in the middle of the night?”

”What’s even stranger is... these animals are clearly of different species; why would they gather together and even act in unison?”

”I remember the last Jianghai City beast tide was caused by the cry of the Prehistoric White-Feathered Great Eagle from Divine Phoenix Mountain! Could this be the Prehistoric White-Feathered Great Eagle causing trouble again?!”

”It probably isn’t the White-Feathered Giant Eagle. This place is over a hundred miles away from Divine Phoenix Mountain, and the Prehistoric White-Feathered Great Eagle usually doesn’t leave Divine Phoenix Mountain...”

”Then what is it because of?”

”Anyway, the Assault Company had better be careful. With so many beasts... the dense forest in the outskirts seems to have truly changed.”

Without the reminder from the livestream’s bullet comments, every soldier in the Assault Company felt solemn.

The air was filled with a thick smell of blood, and the scene was even bloodier; bloody animal organs and white brain matter could be seen everywhere.

The Captain Company Commander’s expression was a bit unnatural; just a moment ago, he had asked a squad leader to check their ammunition consumption.

They had actually used up half of it!

Except for special units, each soldier was equipped with 120 rounds of rifle ammunition, which was four magazines; now, only two remained.

At this moment, he remained silent; the beasts in the dense forest of the outskirts had taught everyone here a lesson.

That fearless wildness, the unknown roar that initiated the attack, and even those Brown Bears the size of small trucks in the beast tide that could ignore the damage from rifle bullets—if those Brown Bears hadn’t left on their own, the beast tide would definitely have charged into the camp.

At that time, some people would definitely have sacrificed their lives!

The Company Commander found Reporter Wang Xiaoli, who was pale, and asked.

”Reporter colleague, your intuition is very sharp and accurate. I would like to hear your advice... Should we continue to go deep into the dense forest now? Or should we give up the mission to eliminate the lion pride and withdraw from the dense forest?”

Reporter Wang Xiaoli, whose face was pale, suddenly felt all the hair on her body stand on end, and her body felt as cold as an ice cube.

”Captain... I feel like the danger... hasn’t ended...”

”What?”

”Roar!!!”

”Ah!!!”

Before the Captain Company Commander could finish his question, a familiar roar sounded, accompanied by a scream!

Everyone looked in the direction of the sound and was shocked to see a huge, massive lioness dash into the crowd, open her blood-red maw, bite a soldier by the neck, and run outward!

”Quick! Save him! Shoot that lioness dead!”

The Captain Company Commander shouted with red eyes!

Intense gunfire rang out, and the bullets formed a rain screen, shrouding the lioness; immediately, sprays of blood appeared.

The lioness carrying the soldier let out a painful roar, but she was very agile, and with the trees in the forest shielding her from the dense barrage of bullets, she quickly disappeared before everyone’s eyes in a few leaps.

”Damn it!”

”Damn beast!”

”Commander, let’s go save Brother Zhang Bing quickly!”

”Alright! Move out immediately!”

The Company Commander also knew he couldn’t hesitate, otherwise that soldier’s life would definitely be lost.

Not having time to pack up some resources in the camp, they simply organized their equipment, and the company soldiers followed in the direction the lioness had fled...

What they didn’t know was that waiting for them ahead was a man-eating demon from hell...
