Spiritual Energy Revival: Transform Into a Divine Phoenix, Automatically Upgrade

64: Chapter 64 Shadows in the DarkThe forest at night was exceptionally quiet and serene. Apart from the occasional chirping of birds and roars of beasts, the only sounds in the woods were the snores of the members of the Assault Company as they slept.

”Ha... I have to say, I’m actually a bit sleepy. This dense forest is really hard to traverse; even my iron-willed body almost couldn’t hold up.”

”Yeah, but fortunately, there aren’t as many branches blocking the path deep in this mountain forest. It’s much easier to walk.”

”That’s good.”

”I wonder where that damn pride of lions has run off to now. I hope they haven’t gone too far, otherwise, who knows how much time we’ll spend catching up to them.”

”It’s fine, just treat it as field combat training.”

The soldiers of the Assault Company responsible for guard duty chatted and laughed with each other. They didn’t consider the mission to hunt down the lion pride to be dangerous at all, or even give it much thought.

Although they knew that the Prehistoric White-Feathered Great Eagle on Divine Phoenix Mountain possessed strength and speed beyond human imagination, they certainly didn’t think the lion pride from the circus could be as formidable as the Prehistoric White-Feathered Great Eagle.

The White-Feathered Giant Eagle was a prehistoric creature from ten thousand years ago; it was understandable that it exceeded human imagination, as they humans had no data or understanding of prehistoric creatures.

But that pride of lions was just a performance prop from a circus, so how could it possibly be as terrifying as the White-Feathered Giant Eagle?!

Furthermore, they were not the same amateurs who had tried to capture the Prehistoric White-Feathered Great Eagle last time; they were genuine, battle-hardened soldiers with extensive combat experience!

If not for the consideration that the lion pride had undergone some unknown mutation after consuming humans, there would have been no need for their entire hundred-man Assault Company to carry out this mission.

Although hacking through thorns and clearing mountain paths during the day had left many soldiers physically exhausted, the soldiers’ outstanding willpower still allowed them to perfectly execute their guard duties for the first half of the night.

By the second half of the night, the forest was even quieter, but the air was filled with an oppressive atmosphere.

The frequency of tiger roars and wolf howls in the distance became less and less, and at some point, they had completely disappeared.

This was very unusual because they knew that most predatory animals were active at night. Now that these beast roars had eerily vanished, could something be happening in the dark forest?

This made the guarding soldiers of the Assault Company somewhat nervous, especially Reporter Wang Xiaoli, who was not a soldier.

Inside the tent, Reporter Wang Xiaoli suddenly sat up, waking from a deep sleep. Her exquisite, beautiful face was deathly pale, and her chest felt as if it were clogged by something, giving her a heavy, suffocating sensation.

She raised her hand to wipe the cold sweat from her forehead and murmured.

”Why do I have this feeling of heart palpitations...”

”Could it be that some dangerous beast is approaching here?”

She now knew that after surviving the beast tide crisis, she possessed a special intuition regarding beast-related dangers, something akin to a legendary sixth sense.

Initially, she suspected this was a psychological shadow left behind after experiencing the beast tide, but the encounter with the lion pride at Yangguan Village a few days ago confirmed that she truly had a keen intuitive sense for beast-related dangers.

Now, this beast-danger intuition was at work, giving her goosebumps all over and making it difficult to breathe.

”No, I have to go notify the Captain Company Commander!”

She hurriedly put on her clothes and went out of the tent to look for the Captain Company Commander.

The Captain Company Commander happened to be one of the people on guard duty for the second half of the night, and soon, Reporter Wang Xiaoli found him on the perimeter of the temporary camp.

”Comrade Reporter, is there something wrong?”

”Captain... I keep feeling that there is danger approaching here...”

”Hmm?”

After hearing the words of Reporter Wang Xiaoli, the Captain Company Commander, who had been feeling a bit heavy-headed, instantly felt his mind clear up.

”Comrade Reporter, please tell me your reasons?”

His tone was serious; since it concerned the safety of his soldiers, he had to take it seriously.

”I... before the lion pride attacked at Yangguan Village, I had a sense of danger for a short time. Although it sounds mystical, it did indeed help me avoid the crisis with the lion pride. This might be because of the intuition I developed regarding beasts after the beast tide...”

The Captain Company Commander pondered for a moment, looked at the serious-faced Reporter Wang Xiaoli, and determined that the female reporter in front of him was not lying.

He took out his communicator and said, ”All soldiers, be careful. The situation might be off. Stay alert!”

”Yes...”

Seeing the soldiers guarding densely around her, Reporter Wang Xiaoli felt a little less panicked.

She went into the tent and pulled up the soundly sleeping photographer, Xiao Li.

”Xiao Li, stop sleeping and get ready for the live broadcast.”

”Oh... oh, okay, Sister Wang.”

Once the live stream started, quite a few people flooded in. With Jianghai City’s population base of millions, there were always plenty of night owls.

”Wow, they’re doing a live broadcast in the middle of the night. Is the Assault Company going to be on the move at night too?!”

”Definitely not. Although the soldiers of the Assault Company are formidable, they also need to rest. Maybe something has happened.”

”The surrounding forest is pitch black. It’s so thrilling in the big mountains. If you were there in person, wouldn’t it be more exciting than a horror movie?”

”No, it might be much more thrilling than a horror movie. Pay attention to the guarding soldiers around; their expressions have changed. Something unexpected might happen next!”

”Ah... beautiful reporter, tell us, what’s going on?”

After Reporter Wang Xiaoli asked photographer Xiao Li to turn on the camera for the live broadcast, she paid no more attention to the live chat room.

She believed that even without her commentary, the number of viewers and traffic for this event would be explosive.

Her beautiful pupils stared unblinkingly at the dark, dense forest in the distance.

Five meters outside the resting area, it was pitch black and very quiet. Apart from the breathing sounds of half the Assault Company soldiers resting, there was only the sound of chilling, eerie mountain winds.

Suddenly, the eyes of all the soldiers responsible for guard duty narrowed. Among them, the various squad leaders immediately took their communicators and called out to the Captain Company Commander.

”Company Commander, there’s a scent of blood in the mountain wind! Wake everyone up; something might be happening!”

”Alright!”

The Captain Company Commander also noticed the scent of blood carried by the mountain wind and awakened the resting soldiers of the Assault Company.

Soon, the entire Assault Company went into a state of alert, and the hundred-man team formed a circle in the open temporary resting area.

A few minutes later, a soldier wearing night-vision goggles shouted out!

”There are unknown, massive creatures approaching. Everyone, be careful!”

In the eyes of the soldiers wearing night-vision goggles, massive black shadows were weaving through the woods around them. Those massive figures were hidden in the darkness like ghostly reapers, making it impossible to lock onto them.

”Prepare for combat!”

The Captain, with a furrowed brow, issued the order!

The sounds of firearms being loaded rang out continuously...

Meanwhile, more and more ghostly shadows appeared in the dark forest, and one could see pairs of greenish eyes.

”ROAR!!!”

Suddenly, a massive, powerful roar rang out!

Like the fuse of a bomb being lit, the roars of beasts suddenly surged like a tide!

”ROAR!”

”AWOOO!!!”

”WOO WOO WOO!!!”

The serene darkness was shattered, and the massive creatures launched an attack toward the forest clearing...
