Gene Unlocking: I Evolve Every Day

Chapter 197: Chapter 180: Physical Assessment

In the evening, a Hongqi car stopped on the road outside Shanglin Garden.

Lu Li, wearing a black short-sleeved T-shirt, had just walked to the door.

He saw Xiaolin obediently get out of the driver’s seat to open the back door.

Perhaps to build a rapport with Lu Li, Wang Yu also came.

He got out from the front passenger seat and stood by the door waiting for Lu Li.

Xiaolin bent slightly to show respect, ”Mr. Lu, please.”

Lu Li didn’t stand on ceremony, slightly nodded, and said, ”Thank you.”

He got in the car and sat down.

Xiaolin returned to the driver’s seat and started the car.

Lu Li exchanged greetings with Wang Yu, then looked at the driver’s seat and said, ”I missed the appointment the day before yesterday, you guys didn’t mind, did you?”

Xiaolin replied calmly, ”No.”

No?

How is that possible?

Wang Yu, sitting in the front passenger seat, was complaining in his heart.

People like Zhang Guocheng and Ma Yangming naturally do not mind.

Perhaps the 749 is too eager to know Lu Li’s body data.

This time, not only did almost all the heads from the East China Region come, but even people from Beijing came.

It’s said that the bigwig from Beijing is the second highest-ranking person in 749 and is indeed in a position of great power.

This bigwig, over sixty years old, rushed over from Beijing overnight upon hearing that Lu Li was to undergo a physical test, truly a weary journey.

Logically, he should have rested for a while after arriving in Su City.

However, Lu Li originally scheduled the physical test for nine in the morning the previous day.

The bigwig, afraid of missing it, insisted on not resting.

As a result, Lu Li stood him up, causing that bigwig to stay up all day and night without daring to rest.

The bigwig, over sixty, even with a sturdy body, could not bear staying up all day and night without sleep.

The bigwig felt that Lu Li was toying with everyone, and he severely scolded Zhang Guocheng at that time, incidentally reprimanding Ma Yangming as well.

In fact, everyone could see that the bigwig did not have an issue with Zhang Guocheng and Ma Yangming but was somewhat disgruntled with Lu Li for standing them up, only currently being deterred by Lu Li’s formidable strength and not daring to act out, instead venting his anger on people like Zhang Guocheng and Ma Yangming.

Lu Li did not activate his empathic abilities, so he didn’t know what Wang Yu and Xiaolin were actually thinking, nor the specific situation.

He was pondering the upcoming physical test along the way, wanting to know his specific test data.

...

On the other side, at the suburban cultural and sports center.

This place was temporarily requisitioned by Zhang Guocheng, with a large amount of equipment moved in.

At this moment, dozens of people stood at the outdoor stadium.

A group of responsible people from the East China Region, including Zhang Guocheng, Ma Yangming, and Old Tan, were crowding around an elderly man in a Zhongshan suit.

The elderly man in the Zhongshan suit was about 1.65 meters tall, not tall, and appeared very skinny. Even most of his hair had turned white. At a glance, he looked like a neighborly old man, but with closer observation, one could see that he exuded authority, and his eyes were like abysses, seemingly unperturbed by any storm or stress, never revealing emotions.

The elderly man in the Zhongshan suit glanced at his watch, ”It’s almost dark, and he’s not here yet?”

Ma Yangming quickly replied, ”Director Li, he should be arriving soon.”

The elderly man in the Zhongshan suit uttered a faint ”hmm” and said no more.

Ma Yangming knew that the other party was actually quite displeased with Lu Li’s no-show behavior, just not showing it.

Zhang Guocheng, Old Tan, and others naturally understood as well.

Therefore, they all kept their heads down, not daring to breathe, afraid of getting into trouble.

The atmosphere on site was very silent.

As long as the elderly man in the Zhongshan suit didn’t speak, no one dared to make a sound.

This situation lasted for more than ten minutes.

Until steps sounded from a distance, gradually approaching.

Everyone turned their heads, seeing Xiaolin and Wang Yu escorting Lu Li through the passage.

Ma Yangming quickly whispered, ”He is Lu Li.”

The elderly man in the Zhongshan suit had noticed earlier.

He scrutinized Lu Li with a look that seemed to assess the situation.

Perhaps not daring to believe that this young man who looked no different from ordinary people.

Could indeed unleash power comparable to a nuclear bomb as seen in videos.

Though quite displeased with Lu Li’s previous no-show behavior, he knew when to do what.

Therefore, upon seeing Lu Li approaching, the elderly man in the Zhongshan suit immediately stepped forward to extend his hand, ”Mr. Lu, hello, I’m Li Ming, pleased to meet you.”

Lu Li saw Ma Yangming, Zhang Guocheng, and others crowding around Li Ming, knowing this old man was no ordinary person.

But he stayed as usual, reaching out to shake hands with the other, ”Mr. Li, hello.”

”Mr. Lu, hello, I’m Ma Yangming, nice to meet you for the first time, please give me guidance.”

”Mr. Ma, hello, you’re too kind.”

”Mr. Lu, long time no see, how have you been?”

”Hehe, thanks to Mr. Zhang, I’m fine.”

Lu Li exchanged a few words with everyone.

Suddenly, he looked at Li Ming, ”Mr. Li, have you not been feeling well recently?”

Li Ming didn’t expect that right after meeting Lu Li, the other could see that his health was off.

Thinking back to Lu Li helping the Liu Family’s old man treat rheumatism.

Li Ming’s attitude improved significantly compared to before.

He smiled and said, ”It’s just a minor ailment, nothing serious.”

Lu Li shook his head, ”Even though it’s not life-threatening, this ailment severely affects your work.”

Li Ming sighed, ”There’s nothing I can do, it’s just age catching up. And it can’t be cured, only managed.”

Ma Yangming, Zhang Guocheng, and Old Tan exchanged glances, clearly unaware of what illness Li Ming had.

Lu Li casually said, ”After the physical test, I’ll treat it for you. I can’t promise a cure, but at least I can alleviate your condition.”

Li Ming was overjoyed and quickly said, ”Thank you, thank you, Mr. Lu.”

Any discomfort in his heart vanished at this moment.

After some idle chatter, Lu Li proactively said, ”It’s getting late, let’s not waste any more time, shall we start the physical test?”

Li Ming signaled Zhang Guocheng with a glance.

Zhang Guocheng, being the direct contact with Lu Li, waved at a few staff members standing not far away and responded to Lu Li, ”Mr. Lu, since we didn’t know which tests you wanted to do, we prepared a lot of items. See which ones you’d like to proceed with?”

While speaking, a young man of about thirty-five or thirty-six approached, handing over a project list.

Lu Li reached out to take a look.

The project list had quite a few physical test items prepared.

For example, standing long jump, lung capacity test, 100 meters, 3000 meters, grip strength, endurance run, flexibility, and so on.

He glanced over it and, seeing nothing too burdensome, nodded in agreement.

After Lu Li agreed, the young man immediately had the staff arrange the test items.

And set up high-speed cameras to record Lu Li’s test.

The first test item was the no-run-up vertical jump.

The staff prepared equipment resembling a basketball hoop.

With markers indicating height, estimated to be about six meters.

The young man introduced, ”This vertical jump testing equipment was custom-ordered from the manufacturer. Please try a standing reach first, then jump to touch the height. The bent marker minus the standing reach is your no-run-up vertical jump data. Normal equipment isn’t this high.”

Lu Li glanced at the equipment, ”It seems a bit low.”

The young man stammered, ”Six meters high and you think it’s low?”

Six meters high yet considered low?

This is a no-run-up vertical jump.

Not a run-up vertical jump.

Li Ming, Ma Yangming, and Zhang Guocheng exchanged glances, all looking puzzled.

Xiaolin, Wang Yu, and the others also showed puzzled expressions.

They knew Lu Li’s body was extraordinary, capable of jumping very high.

For example, in the previously filmed video of dismantling a car by hand.

Lu Li’s run-up jump possibly exceeded three meters.

But a run-up and a no-run-up jump are two different things.

Lu Li didn’t bother much about it, ”Let’s test it first. If this equipment can’t measure it, have someone make a taller one, I’ll need another test in a couple of days.”

The young man relented, ”Alright, Mr. Lu, please first do a standing reach?”

Lu Li walked to the equipment, stood straight, and reached up.

The young man approached to record the data, ”Two hundred fourteen centimeters. Now you can jump with all your might to reach high.”

”How high do you think Mr. Lu can jump?”

”I don’t know, but I think he can exceed three meters.”

”A no-run-up vertical jump of three meters? That’s too exaggerated. Even basketball star Garnett’s strong jumping ability, his no-run-up vertical jump height was only ninety centimeters.”

”Is Mr. Lu an ordinary person? Are you comparing him to a basketball player?”

The group whispered among themselves.

Although everyone felt a no-run-up vertical jump of three meters was exaggerated, each believed Lu Li could achieve it.

Li Ming, Ma Yangming, Zhang Guocheng, and Old Tan all thought so.

Everyone now had only one question: would Lu Li’s no-run-up vertical jump be around three meters, or could he manage slightly more?

Yes, deep down, everyone thought Lu Li’s no-run-up vertical jump height should be around three meters, not believing he could jump any higher.

No wonder they thought so.

After all, in some science fiction comics, even enhanced humans had a no-run-up vertical jump of just three meters.

For example, in the Marvel 616 universe, the enhanced humans injected with super-soldier serum reach this height.

Of course, these enhanced humans can’t compare to Captain America.

As everyone discussed, Lu Li slightly bent his body and suddenly leaped up.

Everyone saw a figure shoot up into the air in a flash.

Then, the previously lively discussions abruptly stopped!

Because after seeing Lu Li jump, even his feet exceeded the equipment by a sizable margin!

No, a sizable margin doesn’t do justice to describe Lu Li’s jump height.

It should be several times the equipment.

Estimated to be at least ten meters high!

What the hell?

No-run-up vertical jump.

At least ten meters high?

Li Ming was immediately dumbfounded!

Ma Yangming and Zhang Guocheng’s eyes widened!

Old Tan, Xiaolin, Wang Yu, and the rest, dozens of people, were all stunned!

Everyone was speechless, incredulously watching Lu Li ”fly” in mid-air!
