Gene Unlocking: I Evolve Every Day

Chapter 152: Chapter 141: Recognition from a Leading Authority

What?

Lu Li’s calculations are completely accurate?

This is currently the most cutting-edge physics research experimental data.

Your experimental center has just started conducting this experiment.

They have yet to capture specific data.

Now they claim that the information provided by Lu Li is correct?

This surprised Liu Xiuming and Liu Xiuliang a bit, revealing a puzzled look, as they looked towards Shen Xia.

Shen Xia took the initiative to explain: ”According to the experimental data publicly available from Europe, indeed there should be eighty antihydrogen atoms escaping towards the bottom. Additionally, the gravitational acceleration on the antihydrogen atoms, based on the experimental results, should reach over one hundred meters per second. Have you calculated the variance?”

Variance is a measure in probability and statistical variance, measuring the degree of dispersion in a set of random variables or a dataset.

For example, a variance of one hundred meters per second indicates the concept of acceleration at meters per second squared.

This unit comes from the second derivative of distance with respect to time.

Thus, the unit is the unit of distance divided by the square of the time unit.

Lu Li mentally calculated, and truthfully said: ”I just did a calculation, and the variance is approximately ten point one meters per second squared.”

Shen Xia was somewhat disappointed upon hearing this, saying: ”This data has some discrepancies with what was published from Europe.”

Upon hearing this, Liu Xiuming and Liu Xiuliang unconsciously breathed a sigh of relief.

They were thinking, how could someone like Lu Li, who wants to learn physics, understand something so profound.

Who would have thought that at this moment, Lu Li suddenly said, ”It’s not that my data calculation is wrong, but your experimental instruments have too much ’force’, which did not balance with gravity.”

Shen Xia was taken aback, ”Are you sure?”

Lu Li nodded slightly, ”If you gradually weaken the magnetic field at the top and bottom of the device, and use sensors to record the position where antihydrogen atoms and hydrogen atoms annihilate upon contact, it should be relatively easy to obtain the correct data. Your instrument’s magnetic field is obviously not matched with gravity, which is why data is not being captured. If you trust me, you can have them gradually weaken the magnetic field at the top and bottom of the device, then conduct the experiment again to collect data.”

Liu Xiuming and Liu Xiuliang looked at each other, unsure if Lu Li was correct or not.

They involuntarily glanced at Shen Xia’s face, wanting to hear what a professional would say.

Shen Xia seemed enchanted by something, standing there frowning, as if contemplating something internally.

Liu Xiuming and Liu Xiuliang saw her frown and thought she was upset with Lu Li’s act of ”directing things”, just about to open their mouths to joke around.

However, before they could speak, Shen Xia nodded thoughtfully, ”Our sensor adjustments were set according to the final data from European experiments, and now the magnetic field is not matched, the speed is too fast, no wonder data couldn’t be collected.”

At this point, she smiled, ”Mr. Lu, if your speculation proves true, our experiment will save considerable effort and reduce the expenditure of quite a bit of money. Please wait, I’ll go chat with the teacher to see if they’re willing to conduct the experiment again.”

Lu Li agreed, ”Alright, go ahead.”

Shen Xia quickly went towards Wu Er Mountain.

Liu Xiuming and Liu Xiuliang became even more confused.

According to what Shen Xia said, Lu Li really did provide constructive feedback?

If it were constructive feedback on other aspects, the Liu brothers, Liu Xiuming and Liu Xiuliang, would certainly find it unsurprising.

But this was the most cutting-edge, top-notch physics experiment in the world.

Not to mention regular people, even many physicists might not immediately grasp the crucial point.

For instance, in this laboratory, those physicists didn’t discover why data wasn’t being collected.

This implies that Lu Li might be extremely knowledgeable in physics, thus could spot the problem from just a glance at the data display?

Liu Xiuming and Liu Xiuliang did not know that Lu Li possessed microscopic vision, and assumed the calculations were deduced from data.

Lu Li didn’t use any telepathy, so naturally, he wasn’t aware of Liu Xiuming and Liu Xiuliang’s thoughts.

At this moment, his attention wasn’t on the two of them but on Wu Er Mountain, who was conversing with Shen Xia, and a group of physicists in front.

...

Shen Xia had just informed Wu Er Mountain of the situation.

Sitting there, Wu Er Mountain was quite surprised, ”He only watched our experiment once and deduced how many antihydrogen atoms escaped from the bottom, and also approximately calculated the variance, finding some issues in our experiment?”

”Is that possible?”

”We haven’t even collected critical data here, how did he calculate it?”

”If his calculations are correct, then our instrument settings might indeed have a problem.”

”The issue now is, we don’t know if he really calculated correctly. If he miscalculated, and we arbitrarily change the instrument settings, it could cause significant trouble for the subsequent experiment.”

A group of physicists was half-believing and half-doubting.

They believed in the quantity of antihydrogen atoms escaping from the bottom as mentioned by Lu Li.

What puzzled them was that the gravitational acceleration proposed by Lu Li did not match the European experimental results.

They couldn’t determine if it was indeed due to inaccurate instrument settings, as he suggested.

In fact, this kind of problem is easily resolved.

Just attempt the experiment multiple times.

As long as one dataset can be collected, it can basically be determined if there is an issue with the instrument settings.

But as everyone discussed, before any data is collected, changing the instrument settings on a whim, who knows what might happen?

Perhaps they had set it correctly, and if the settings were changed just because of a casual comment from Lu Li, the final data might end up being wrong.

They would not only have to expend more energy but also waste more funds.

The cost of producing antihydrogen atoms is extremely high.

To manufacture one gram of antihydrogen atoms, it would cost $62.5 trillion!

This is just the cost of antihydrogen atoms.

In reality, each experiment costs far more than just the expenditure on antihydrogen atoms.

Naturally, even if everyone wanted to believe what Lu Li said, they didn’t have the cost or courage to believe it.

Shen Xia didn’t pay attention to others but looked earnestly at Wu Er Mountain and said, ”Teacher Wu, he indeed said this to me just now. We didn’t even capture how many antihydrogen atoms escaped from the bottom, yet he analyzed it all at once and even calculated the gravitational acceleration. Personally, I think his words should be credible. Of course, whether you want to listen to his suggestions to gradually weaken the magnetic fields at the top and bottom of the device and adjust the instrument records is up to you.”

Everyone looked towards Wu Er Mountain.

Everyone knew that only if he supported Lu Li’s viewpoint could they proceed in that manner.

If Wu Er Mountain did not support it, even if Lu Li spoke till he was blue in the face it would be to no avail.

Wu Er Mountain stayed silent for a moment and suddenly said, ”I believe what this Mr. Lu said. Xiaoshen, invite him over here. I want to have a brief chat with him.”

Shen Xia quickly replied, ”Okay.”

...

Lu Li had already heard the content of the conversation and knew he would be invited over by Wu Er Mountain for a chat.

Truthfully, he really didn’t know how to explain how he observed it; he couldn’t exactly say he had microscopic vision, could he?

While he was pondering this, Shen Xia came up to him and politely said, ”Mr. Lu, the teacher is asking for you.”

Lu Li uttered a sound, ”Okay.”

The two of them walked forward.

Liu Xiuming and Liu Xiuliang, who were previously deep in thought, suddenly snapped out of it.

They looked at each other in disbelief again, never expecting that Wu Er Mountain, a towering figure in Huaxia’s physics community, would use the word ”invite” to ask Lu Li over.

This left the brothers feeling amazed.

You have to understand, someone of Liu Xiuming’s standing wasn’t considered by Wu Er Mountain.

Yet he was so polite to Lu Li?

Liu Xiuming and Liu Xiuliang sensed something.

They realized Lu Li might have an in-depth knowledge of physics.

Otherwise, how could he make someone like Wu Er Mountain use ”invite”?

The two brothers were extremely curious.

Since Lu Li was proficient in physics, why was he looking for someone to study with?

With these curious thoughts in mind, Liu Xiuming and Liu Xiuliang quickly followed.

They arrived in front of several physicists.

Lu Li addressed Wu Er Mountain in a very respectful tone, ”Hello, Teacher Wu, I’m Lu Li. It’s an honor to meet you today.”

Wu Er Mountain looked at him with interest and responded with a smile, ”Hello, Mr. Lu.”

Then he turned his head and said, ”Xiaowang, get a chair for Mr. Lu.”

A short, bald physicist in his fifties quickly responded, ”Okay, Teacher Wu.”

Just then, Liu Xiuming and Liu Xiuliang walked over.

The brothers quickly greeted Wu Er Mountain.

”Elder Wu, long time no see, are you well?”

”Elder Wu, hello.”

”I’m fine.” Wu Er Mountain nodded lightly and then looked away from Liu Xiuming and Liu Xiuliang, turning to Lu Li to ask politely, ”Can I know how you calculated how many antihydrogen atoms escaped from the bottom and the gravitational acceleration?”

Anyone could see that the respect Wu Er Mountain afforded Lu Li was far greater than to Liu Xiuming and Liu Xiuliang.

Naturally, Liu Xiuming and Liu Xiuliang could also sense it, but they didn’t mind. Instead, they looked at Lu Li with intense curiosity, wanting to hear what he would say.

Not only Liu Xiuming and Liu Xiuliang were curious.

A group of physicists standing nearby, including Shen Xia, all showed great interest.

A thin, forties-something physicist couldn’t help but remark, ”The ultimate goal of our experiments is to obtain these two pieces of data. Did you calculate them just by looking once? That’s incredible!”

Lu Li truly didn’t know how to explain it, so he could only say, ”The result of my calculations is like this. I honestly can’t explain it. If you believe me, you can redo the experiment and see. If not, just leave it at that.”

Wu Er Mountain stared at him, ”Do you know how much financing it requires to conduct just one of our experiments?”

Lu Li shook his head, ”I don’t know.”

Wu Er Mountain said, ”At least a million US Dollars, and for long-term experiments like ours, lasting more than a year, the total expenditure might amount to tens of millions of dollars.”

Lu Li smiled, ”Indeed, the expenses aren’t small. If you’re concerned about wasting funds, you don’t have to heed my words.”

”No.” Wu Er Mountain shook his head earnestly, ”I believe in the data you provided, and therefore I’m willing to risk losing several million, even tens of millions, of dollars to adjust the instruments and see if you’re correct.”

Huh?

Wu Er Mountain believes?

This left Liu Xiuming and Liu Xiuliang once again in disbelief.

But the physicists understood why Wu Er Mountain believed.

Because the data provided by Lu Li indeed closely matched that of Europe.

Moreover, when backtracking based on this data, it could serve as indirect evidence that there might be some issues with the instrument settings.

The physicists were just astonished to see Wu Er Mountain’s boldness, daring to gamble millions or even tens of millions of dollars.

At this moment, everyone felt extremely curious, wondering if the upcoming experiment would prove Lu Li correct?
