Gene Unlocking: I Evolve Every Day

Chapter 194: Chapter 197: Human Body Protection Mechanism

Although Ni Qingwen is an emergency doctor, which differs from the human body science expert he needs, Lu Li knows that medicine is closely related to human body science, and emergency doctors are almost all-around, so chatting might be helpful.

As for the identity of the old classmate...

Well, he thought for a moment and still didn’t recognize it.

Mainly because the other party was too talented, it had dealt a big blow to his inner self before.

Right after they got acquainted, Ni Qingwen, who had a ponytail and looked about 60-70% similar to Zhao Liying, looked over in confusion and asked, ”Mr. Lu, your name sounds somewhat familiar to me, have we... met before?”

Lu Li calmly lied, ”No, we haven’t.”

Shen Xia teased, ”Qingwen, are you finding Mr. Lu handsome, so you’re using this way to get closer?”

Ni Qingwen rolled her eyes, ”I’m not like you, infatuated. I really feel like I’ve heard his name somewhere.”

Shen Xia pursed her lips and smiled, looked at Lu Li and said, ”Mr. Lu, see what dishes you want to order, remember to take your time, otherwise our Qingwen might finish eating and run away.”

Ni Qingwen looked at her speechlessly, ”You’re making it seem like I’m just here for the free meal.”

Lu Li couldn’t help but laugh, Shen Xia’s few words immediately livened up the atmosphere.

It must be said, this Shen Xia with short hair near the ears and transparent-framed glasses has a very high EQ.

Before long, the three had finished ordering.

Ni Qingwen asked, ”Mr. Lu, Xiaoxia said you want to know a bit about human body science? Although I study medicine, I do know a bit about human body science.”

Shen Xia indeed understood to read the room, seeing that the two were about to discuss serious matters, she pretended to look down and play with her phone, no longer making noise to disturb them.

Lu Li noticed this situation, glanced at Shen Xia, and then returned his gaze to Ni Qingwen’s face.

He organized his words and tentatively asked, ”Actually, I’m just curious to understand the limits of human anatomy, and whether human limits could possibly be broken or anything like that.”

Ni Qingwen laughed, ”I was wondering what it was, this is relatively simple, should I introduce them to you one by one?”

Lu Li humbly asked for guidance, ”Sorry to trouble you.”

Ni Qingwen slowly said, ”The human body limit involves too many aspects, I’ll simplify it, for example, the limit of human strength, calculating according to the amount of ATP produced by the muscles, the limit of human strength is approximately between 2,268 kilograms and 2,722 kilograms.”

Lu Li was puzzled, ”ATP amount?”

Ni Qingwen explained, ”ATP is adenosine triphosphate, also known as triphosphate adenosine, it’s the most important high-energy compound in the body. During life activities, energy release, storage, and utilization primarily revolve around ATP, so ATP is the direct source of energy for life activities.”

Oh, he understood what it meant.

Lu Li briefly analyzed the conversation just now.

If one only calculates the amount of ATP produced by muscles, the explosive strength limit of the human body is over 2,200 kilograms up to 2,700 kilograms.

Evidently, his current explosive power far exceeds this data.

Lu Li remembers after his second deep evolution, just his arm strength reached over three tons.

This means his body indeed surpassed the human limit.

At this moment, Ni Qingwen was continuing, ”The ATP produced by muscles is only part of what affects strength. In fact, human strength comes from skeletal muscle, generated by the motion system, not simply determined by the muscle alone.”

Shen Xia had kept her head down, as if she really was texting.

Lu Li quietly listened.

Ni Qingwen went over almost everything in detail, from strength to speed, reflexes, and so on.

During this period, the seven to eight dishes they ordered also arrived.

Lu Li had no appetite for food, only keenly listening.

Ni Qingwen seemed to be a workaholic; while explaining professional knowledge, she hardly touched her chopsticks.

Lu Li didn’t eat, and Ni Qingwen didn’t eat either, which left Shen Xia holding her chopsticks, not knowing if she should eat or not.

Fortunately, Ni Qingwen was reaching the end, ”Although human body potential is boundless, in fact, there is a limit. Everyone knows Bolt’s world record of 9.58 seconds, but that’s not the limit of human running speed. According to the human body structure, theoretically, humans can run to 9.48 seconds. Bolt is already very near that limit, so breaking Bolt’s record is extremely difficult unless the body structure changes.”

It’s incredibly difficult to break Bolt’s record unless there’s a change in body structure?

Lu Li thought to himself, I haven’t changed my body structure...

Just halfway through the thought, he suddenly realized!

His body structure now doesn’t seem much different from others.

But in reality, his body’s construction is quite different from ordinary humans. For example, the color of his bones, the ”starlight” in his blood, etc. These are qualitative changes, not merely changes in form.

So, the reason why his physical body hasn’t been getting stronger recently is likely for a single reason.

It’s because it has reached a limit.

Unless there is another qualitative change, his physical body won’t become stronger.

And when it comes to qualitative changes, Lu Li can only think of ”deep evolution” as a possibility.

But a new problem arises.

Last time, he stumbled upon a second deep evolution by accident.

How could he ensure that he will definitely undergo a third deep evolution?

”No wonder Little Golden Man actively upgraded; it turns out the physical body has reached its limit and must undergo a third deep evolution.”

Lu Li mused silently.

He casually asked, ”Is it possible for humans to break through physical limits?”

At this question, Ni Qingwen’s face turned serious. ”According to mainstream scientific views, humans may never surpass their physical limits. Let me give you an example: normally, human body temperature is around 37°C. When it drops to 36°C, judgment and reaction abilities decrease. At 35°C, you can’t even hold a pen to write, and walking becomes difficult. At 33°C, a person will completely lose reason. At 32°C, most people will become exhausted. At 30°C, many will fall into a coma. When core body temperature drops to 28°C, your heartbeat will become arrhythmic. Once it reaches 22°C, the heart will completely stop.

She paused here, ”So 22°C is the limit of human body temperature, and this law cannot be broken. Of course, this is just an example. In fact, the human body’s limits have many aspects, and the main reason they cannot be broken is that the body has protection mechanisms. These mechanisms protect our bodies but prevent us from ’growing wildly.’

Lu Li was very interested and asked, ”Can you explain it in detail?”

Shen Xia noticed that the two had no intention of eating and put down her chopsticks too, continuously drinking water over there.

Ni Qingwen thought for a moment and made an analogy, ”The human body can be compared to a phone without a battery, and respiration is equivalent to plugging the phone into a charger. This kind of phone can’t store energy, and humans can’t directly store energy either. We can only store fat, which needs to be broken down into glucose and then through respiration converted into energy. This means that such a phone has to be constantly plugged in to be used normally. If the phone overloads, it might shut off. If the charger is unplugged, the phone will also shut off. Humans and phones are similar, except when a human body ’shuts off,’ it means death, because a human can’t reboot like a phone. In short, the energy respiration can generate in a unit of time is very limited, and the human body can’t store energy. This is one of the reasons why humans can’t be infinitely powerful.”

She then had a serious expression, ”So, the body’s protection mechanisms won’t let humans grow wildly. Otherwise, the energy won’t keep up... and one would die!”

Lu Li generally understood.

The reason why his physical body hasn’t strengthened lately, as he discovered earlier, is because there hasn’t been a qualitative change yet.

The reason there hasn’t been a qualitative change is due to insufficient energy. The body’s protection mechanisms prevent his body from growing stronger, else he would, as Ni Qingwen described, die from a lack of energy.

Although he’s unlocked the gene lock, that doesn’t mean the protection mechanisms are gone.

Upon understanding this, Lu Li finally knew what to do next: simply supplement a large amount of energy, reach the ”battery level” deemed adequate by the body’s protection mechanisms to ”upgrade the system,” and enter the third deep evolution, thereby solving the problem of his body not strengthening recently.

However, despite developing a method to absorb free energy from the air, it’s still not enough to meet the ”upgrade requirements,” so how can he obtain enough energy?

Lu Li hasn’t figured this part out yet, but he sincerely said to the person opposite him, ”Miss Ni, thank you for your help today.”

”You’re welcome, I just told you what I know and it might not even be accurate,” Ni Qingwen said modestly. ”If you want to learn more, I’d recommend consulting with human biology experts. If needed, I can introduce you to someone.”

Lu Li already understood the situation, so he naturally no longer needed to consult with human biology experts.

Of course, he might need it in the future, so he didn’t refuse.

Lu Li said, ”Alright, let me know when you’re free to introduce me to someone.”

Ni Qingwen was about to say something when her phone suddenly rang. She glanced at it and immediately leaped up, ”Oh no, I’ve been chatting with you guys too long, I’m going to be late. You two carry on eating, I’m off to work.”

Lu Li: ”...”

You haven’t eaten a thing while chatting with me, aren’t you going to be starving at work?

Before he had the chance to pack something for her, Ni Qingwen hurriedly grabbed her small bag and dashed off.

Considering her polite demeanor at the start, it’s clear she’s truly running late now...
