Gene Unlocking: I Evolve Every Day

Chapter 184: Chapter 167: Why Don’t You Sleep on the Bed?

Because Qin Yuyong and the others were quite busy.

After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, they returned inland that very night.

Lu Li had been blacklisted by the casino, so naturally he couldn’t stay in Macau to play around any longer.

He brought back a pile of luxury items he bought during the afternoon shopping trip.

It was already late at night when they arrived in Shanghai.

Originally, Qin Liang asked Lu Li to stay the night.

Not wanting to trouble anyone, he voluntarily asked to return to Su City.

On the way back to Su City from Shanghai, Lu Li kept thinking about spending money.

After chatting with Qin Liang in the morning, he already vaguely knew where to spend the money.

Lu Li pondered silently, in the next couple of days, he estimated that he might spend at least tens of millions, if not a hundred million or two.

In the midst of his thoughts, he returned to Diamond Home.

By now, it was already one o’clock in the morning.

However, to Lu Li’s surprise, he saw that the light in Liu Kexin’s room was still on.

Hmm?

Why is she still awake so late?

Lu Li found it a bit strange.

He activated his superpower to take a look.

He saw Liu Kexin in the bedroom, still burning the midnight oil, dealing with various company documents.

Moreover, she seemed to have caught a cold, coughing continuously over there.

Seeing this, Lu Li was a bit speechless, thinking to himself, why are you still working so hard when you’re already like this?

He shook his head helplessly, took out the keys, opened the door, and let Qin Liang’s driver help carry the luxury goods he bought inside.

...

Arriving upstairs.

Lu Li went straight to Liu Kexin’s bedroom, raised his hand and knocked lightly twice.

Inside, Liu Kexin’s tired voice immediately sounded, ”Aunt Huang, it’s so late, what’s the matter?”

Lu Li said: ”It’s me.”

”Ah?” Liu Kexin’s voice carried a hint of surprise, ”Wait a moment, I’ll be right there to open the door.”

Footsteps sounded inside.

A moment later, with a click, the door opened.

Liu Kexin appeared before him in pink pajamas.

She pretended to ask expressionlessly, ”You came back from Macau so soon? I... cough cough, I thought you’d stay a few more days.”

Lu Li teased her with a cheeky smile, ”I missed you, so I came back early.”

As he spoke, he walked inside.

Sitting on a chair by the bedside as if it was his space.

Liu Kexin looked at him, speechless, ”I didn’t even invite you in... cough cough...”

Lu Li tilted his head, ”Are you saying you’re not welcoming me into your room?”

Liu Kexin closed the door casually, saying: ”It’s not about welcoming or not welcoming.”

Saying this, she sat down on the bed edge opposite him, coughing a few more times, ”I caught a cold, you coming in, don’t get infected by me later.”

Lu Li knew she had a hard exterior but a soft heart.

If she wasn’t welcoming him into her room.

Why would she even care about passing on her cold?

As for catching a cold, Lu Li wasn’t worried at all.

His physical fitness was many times better than normal people’s.

His resistance was definitely on a corresponding level.

How could he catch a cold so easily?

To put it bluntly, even if a virus a hundred times more severe than the common cold appeared, his immune system might not get infected...

Hey!

Hold on!

Lu Li suddenly thought of something.

In some sense, the human immune system is related to physical wellness, but not directly.

Generally, the human immune system consists of immune organs, immune cells, and immune-active substances.

Immune organs include bone marrow, spleen, lymph nodes, etc.

Immune cells are such as lymphocytes, mononuclear phagocytes.

As for immune-active substances, they generally refer to antibodies, complements, lysozyme, immunoglobulins, etc.

Lu Li was pondering a matter.

His physical fitness had been comprehensively enhanced.

In theory, immune organs, immune cells, and immune-active substances should have been strengthened to some degree.

However, the immune system didn’t seem to have evolved to have superpowers.

Which means, theoretically, he could still be infected by viruses.

Even if infected by a virus, he could quickly eradicate it by adjusting body temperature and other means, but this seemingly trivial issue could become a weakness.

For example, if someone poisoned him severely one day, and the immune system couldn’t handle it instantly, wouldn’t he be done for?

”It seems, I need to evolve a super-strong defensive immune system.”

Lu Li contemplated secretly.

This matter doesn’t need to be rushed for now.

Because the immune system involves too many things.

If he evolved rashly, he didn’t know what might happen.

He’d better try little by little later.

With these thoughts, he returned his attention to reality.

Lu Li frowned and said: ”Why are you still working so late when you’re sick?”

The two didn’t have much of a relationship.

Liu Kexin could totally have said, ”What’s it to you.”

But hearing Lu Li’s slightly concerned question, she felt a bit happy inside.

Liu Kexin weakly said, ”There’s a bit too much work these days, I’ll sleep once I finish.”

After speaking, she started coughing again, and it was quite severe this time.

Lu Li saw Liu Kexin coughing non-stop and proactively grabbed her palm, preparing to use energy rays to treat her cold.

However, Liu Kexin misunderstood, thinking Lu Li was about to start touching her and then kiss her as he did before.

Blushing, she said, ”You really shouldn’t kiss me today; it’s not good to spread the cold.”

Lu Li chuckled speechlessly at her, ”I didn’t even think about that; what’s going on in your head?”

Liu Kexin: ”...”

Lu Li didn’t bother with her reaction.

He directly moved the energy rays into her body.

Activating his microscopic vision, he checked for the presence of the cold virus.

At first, nothing seemed unusual.

Once activated, Lu Li saw that there were many places in the room with the cold virus.

As for inside Liu Kexin, the virus was mainly concentrated in her nasopharynx, trachea, bronchi, and throat areas.

He directed the energy rays towards those areas.

Liu Kexin felt a warm current flowing into her body.

She suddenly recalled how Lu Li had eliminated fatigue last time by massaging her shoulders, which also involved a warm current flowing in.

Liu Kexin was a bit surprised, thinking this warm current might be what martial arts novels refer to as inner strength.

She opened her mouth, wanting to ask if that was the case.

But while she may appear aloof, she is actually very perceptive and knows what to ask and what not to ask, so she ultimately said nothing.

Lu Li continued inputting the energy rays, gradually exterminating the virus.

Before long, all the cold virus inside Liu Kexin was eliminated, and she stopped coughing incessantly.

The cold and cough are caused by viral or bacterial infections, which stimulate the mucous membranes in the nasopharynx.

Now that Lu Li has cleared out the cold virus from Liu Kexin, she naturally no longer coughed.

Lu Li checked to confirm that she had no cold virus left in her body and said, ”Hmm, that should be it.”

Liu Kexin looked at him with eyes full of curiosity and softly said, ”Thank you.”

Lu Li thought for a moment and said, ”Your room is full of the cold virus; it’s not suitable to stay here tonight. How about this: you find another room to sleep in, and tomorrow you can ventilate the room before moving back in?”

Liu Kexin said helplessly, ”Though this place has several bedrooms, most don’t have beds.”

Lu Li knew this well.

The place only had three rooms with beds.

They were Liu Kexin’s bedroom, his own bedroom, and the room where Aunt Huang stayed.

He straightforwardly said, ”You can stay in my bedroom.”

Liu Kexin blushed and scoffed, ”I knew you were up to no good.”

Lu Li really had no ulterior motives tonight.

Firstly, because the other party was weak from a cold, it wouldn’t be right to do anything.

Secondly, it was late, and the other party had to get up early to work at Vox tomorrow.

He couldn’t keep her up all night, right?

Lu Li chuckled and said, ”I didn’t say we’d stay in the same room; don’t flatter yourself.”

Liu Kexin was taken aback and asked, ”Then where will you stay?”

Lu Li said, ”I have a place to stay, don’t worry about it.”

Liu Kexin frowned and said, ”I remember you saying your rented house was given to someone else to stay in; you didn’t mention who, but it’s not nice to bother people so late.”

Lu Li said, ”I didn’t say I was going to my rented place; come on, stop overthinking it, just pack up and go rest in my room, get a good night’s sleep, and don’t stay up late dealing with documents.”

Liu Kexin hesitated a bit, but obediently responded, ”Alright, I’ll go sleep now.”

With that, she stood up and tidied up her documents.

Taking the opportunity, Lu Li took the room key out of his pocket and handed it to her, saying, ”Here, take the key.”

Liu Kexin didn’t immediately take the key; she looked down and in a tiny voice said, ”It’s so late... maybe you... shouldn’t go.”

She regretted it as soon as she said it.

She agreed to stay in Lu Li’s room.

And now she’s asking him not to go.

Doesn’t that mean they’ll sleep together?

But Lu Li didn’t think that way, smiling as he withdrew the key, ”Okay, I’ll just sleep on the floor.”

Liu Kexin was surprised and turned her head to look at him.

She felt that Lu Li was a little strange tonight.

Not as eager as before, as though he lost his enthusiasm.

For some reason, sensing this situation made her feel a little disappointed inside.

Liu Kexin simply said ”Oh” without adding anything further.

...

In the guest room.

Lu Li let Liu Kexin go to bed first.

He then took a blanket out of the closet and laid it on the floor next to the bed.

It really was quite late.

To avoid disturbing her rest, he deliberately didn’t communicate much and directly lay on the floor, ready to sleep.

Suddenly, Liu Kexin, who was lying on the bed, called out, ”Lu Li.”

Keeping his eyes closed, Lu Li asked, ”What’s up?”

With concern, Liu Kexin asked, ”Is it cold on the floor?”

Lu Li replied, ”It’s June or July, so how could it be cold? Plus, the air conditioner is on.”

Liu Kexin said, ”It’s because the air conditioner is on that I ask if you’re cold. The vent is blowing towards you.”

Lu Li said, ”I’m not cold; don’t worry about me, just sleep, okay?”

Liu Kexin murmured an ”Okay” and went quiet again.

Seeing she wasn’t speaking, Lu Li was about to finish thinking and go to sleep.

Out of nowhere, Liu Kexin suddenly took a deep breath and said, ”Why don’t you come sleep on the bed?”

Huh?

You want me to sleep with you?

Lu Li suddenly opened his eyes wide.
