Gene Unlocking: I Evolve Every Day

Chapter 82: Chapter 76: Enjoying Freedom

Driving the Porsche 911 out of the neighborhood.

Just stepping outside, Lu Li was preparing to turn left onto the main road.

Suddenly, he keenly noticed that there was a car tailing him from behind.

The other party was very cautious, keeping a distance of over two hundred meters.

”Hm?” Lu Li turned the steering wheel, frowned and pondered to himself: ”Could it be that Vice President Du is really unwilling to let go and is planning to have someone follow me and launch a desperate retaliation?”

But it doesn’t make sense.

The information discussed privately with Liu Kexin couldn’t possibly be known by Vice President Du.

Even though he instinctively felt that the person tailing him wasn’t sent by Vice President Du, Lu Li still activated his super ability to smell the picture and check.

The next moment, his expression froze.

Lu Li never expected that among the three people in the car behind, there was his old classmate Wang Yu.

The driver was a short-haired young man around twenty-four or twenty-five, with a serious and determined face, almost like a soldier.

Sitting alone in the back was a middle-aged man in his forties or fifties, with a square face, not very tall, maybe about one meter sixty-eight.

The three of them were speaking, as if they were discussing something.

Lu Li unhesitatingly activated his super hearing to eavesdrop on their conversation.

At that moment, the middle-aged man was speaking, ”...Keep it confidential, later you pretend to encounter him by chance, just say you’ve been transferred to the city criminal police team.”

Wang Yu, with a somewhat complicated expression, said, ”Okay, I got it.”

The middle-aged man said, ”You don’t need to do anything else, just try to contact Lu Li as much as possible, record his daily whereabouts, what he does, who he interacts with, and report to me via email.”

Wang Yu took a deep breath and said, ”I will complete the task.”

The middle-aged man nodded, ”I am only staying here for one day, from now on you should cooperate well with Xiaolin, he is from special forces, proficient in reconnaissance and counter-reconnaissance, multiple combat techniques, and various weaponry applications. If you encounter any dangerous situations, he will protect you first.”

Wang Yu couldn’t help but smile wryly, ”Old Lu and I are old classmates, we have a good relationship, he won’t hurt me.”

”Times have changed.” The middle-aged man’s gaze was profound, ”Just complete the task well, and don’t leak any of our bureau’s secrets due to personal ties.”

Oh!

People from a special department!

After dismantling the car bare-handed that night, Lu Li knew this day would come.

Listening to the other’s meaning, they won’t take action against him for the time being.

He thought for a moment and decided to temporarily act as if he knew nothing.

See what the other party does next, and then decide on a strategy.

Lu Li didn’t care about the car behind anymore.

He drove toward the city by himself.

”It’s a pity that I haven’t developed the transformation technique yet, otherwise it would be very easy to get rid of being followed.”

Lu Li was really puzzled.

So much energy every day.

Clearly it’s gathered in his body.

But there was just no response.

”Could it be that this superpower cannot evolve?”

He thought it shouldn’t be that it can’t evolve.

After all, the Little Golden Man is mobilizing energy light every day, merging it into his body as before.

”So, it is highly possible that the ’transformation technique’ superpower structure is simply too complex, requiring massive amounts of energy; what I’ve absorbed these days seems like a lot, but actually, it might be far from enough.”

Lu Li figured this should be the case.

Alright, since he’s guessed what’s going on, it’s relatively easier to solve.

Take in more energy in the future.

In deep thought, the car had already driven onto Shihu Road.

The light turned red.

Lu Li stopped the car.

He reached for his phone to take a glance.

Suddenly, a police car drove over from the adjacent lane and stopped.

Lu Li, holding his phone, casually looked over.

This was an instinctive action.

He had already withdrawn his gaze.

However, the next moment, Lu Li looked up with slight bewilderment.

He saw the police car was crowded with people being escorted.

Among them were Vice President Du and Lu Yao!

The key thing was, as he looked up, Vice President Du happened to lower his head with a hopeless expression and look over as well.

Their gazes met instantly.

Lu Li saw that Vice President Du, much like himself, showed a look of surprise.

Thinking back, when his gene lock hadn’t been unlocked, he was just an inconspicuous figure in the company, while Vice President Du, as the executive vice president, was so high and mighty.

Unexpectedly, two or three weeks passed, and the other was already imprisoned, while he himself soared to great heights.

One being escorted in a police car.

One sitting inside a Porsche 911.

The contrast was stark.

Vice President Du’s eyes were filled with desolation.

Lu Li felt deeply moved.

Soon, the green light came on.

Lu Li drove northbound.

The police car turned south and sped away.

This scene seemed to foretell the fate of Lu Li and Vice President Du.

At the same time, it also foreshadowed that Lu Li was truly parting ways with the company...

Well, still need to go through the resignation process.

...

At the company, in the e-commerce sales department.

”Boss, you really resigned?”

”Why so sudden? Everything was going well, why quit?”

”The Vice President Du who didn’t get along with you got arrested, can’t you stay?”

A group of people recruited by Lu Li, including Chen Yingying, Li Shishi, and Qian Yu, surrounded him, visibly reluctant.

Xiaomei, Xiaozhao, Xiaoqing, and Brother Cheng, who had a good relationship with him, also stood by with complex expressions.

Except for Xiaozhao, the others seemed not to understand why Lu Li resigned.

Lu Li comforted everyone with a few words.

Finally, Manager Wang came in, and everyone dispersed to work due to his authority.

Manager Wang approached, showing a sincere smile and extending his hand, ”Lu Li, I heard you resigned, wishing you all the best in the future.”

Lu Li shook his hand, ”Thank you for your kind words.”

Manager Wang couldn’t help but smile bitterly when he saw Lu Li’s carefree demeanor.

Yesterday, when he returned from leave, he heard faintly that Lu Li seemed to have gained the trust of everyone in the department, fearing the other would compete for power, thus showing a cold attitude.

Little did he expect, Lu Li didn’t care about leadership power at all, and today he just resigned and left.

This made Manager Wang blush, realizing that what he valued so much wasn’t worth mentioning in other’s eyes.

Lu Li didn’t care what Manager Wang thought and looked at Xiaoqing, Brother Cheng, and Xiaomei and the others.

With a bit of reluctance, Xiaomei said, ”Boss, come back to see us often.”

Lu Li nodded, ”I will.”

Brother Cheng stepped forward and sighed, ”I don’t even know what to say as a farewell, but no matter what, take care in the future.”

”Mm, thank you, Brother Cheng.” Lu Li blinked and lowered his voice, ”Brother Cheng, when I went to see President Liu just now, she asked me if there was a suitable candidate for deputy department manager after I resigned. I recommended you to her.”

”Ah?” Brother Cheng was overjoyed and promptly grabbed Lu Li’s hand with gratitude, ”Thank you, thank you.”

Just finished chatting here.

Xiaoqing came forward looking quite sad, ”Lu Li, you’ve resigned, can I still send you messages in the future?”

Lu Li knew what she was thinking.

Seeing her so sad, he teased her on purpose, ”Why not? It’s not like I’m disappearing from the world.”

Xiaoqing couldn’t help but burst into laughter, significantly lightening the mood of parting.

The last was Xiaozhao.

He pulled Lu Li outside the door to talk privately.

With an eager look, Xiaozhao said, ”Boss, if you need people in the future, please remember to contact me.”

Lu Li knew he wanted to hang on to a big shot and unhesitatingly patted his shoulder, ”Sure, when I need help, you’ll be the first I call.”

After bidding farewell to many close colleagues.

Lu Li waved his sleeve, leaving without taking a cloud, thoroughly saying goodbye to the beginner’s village.

...

Driving a Porsche 911 aimlessly wandering the streets.

Lu Li, who was always used to being busy, was now idle after resigning, and honestly, he felt a bit unaccustomed.

He really couldn’t think of what to do, so he found a café near Front View Street to sit down and think about how to develop next.

Just parked the car and went inside.

Perhaps because of his handsome looks and driving a Porsche 911.

As soon as Lu Li entered, he saw several young women sitting by the window, frequently glancing over.

Ordered a coffee at the counter.

Lu Li found a corner seat to enjoy the breath of freedom.

At this time on usual days, he estimated he’d just had lunch and returned to the office, handling various documents.

Sometimes when there was a lot of work in the department, he would be so busy it felt like the sky was falling.

Now?

He was sitting here, drinking coffee, feeling no pressure at all.

This made Lu Li secretly sigh, ”Freedom, it feels so good.”

While thinking, a young woman in a white dress approached, ”Handsome, can I get to know you?”

Lu Li looked up and saw a woman with above-average looks.

He understood her intentions, but since she wasn’t particularly attractive to him, he didn’t feel any excitement.

Lu Li politely declined, ”Sorry, I’m waiting for someone.”

The woman in the white dress didn’t give up, ”Can I add you on WeChat?”

Lu Li originally wanted to refuse again.

But remembering his grand ambition of becoming a ”sea king” earlier, he didn’t refuse this time, ”Sure.”

He took out his Vertu phone.

Opened his alternate WeChat account.

Threw her into his ”fish pond.”

Perhaps seeing the woman in the white dress successfully got his WeChat.

Then, several pretty women came over.

”Wow, you’re so handsome.”

”Can I add you on WeChat?”

”Handsome, can we get to know each other?”

Lu Li did not refuse anyone and added all these women who came up to him to his alternate WeChat account.

A moment later, he finally found peace.

Looking at the five or six WeChat contacts in his alternate account, he couldn’t help but feel emotional.

When he used to be a chubby guy, he didn’t even have the courage to chat with girls.

Now, just by sitting here, many women actively showed interest?

This feeling... is just damn exhilarating!

”Hmm, now I should consider what to do next.”

Lu Li propped his chin and looked out the window, ”Antiques can only be a temporary transition, I need to find a stable way to make money, like lying down every day and still having loads of cash flow in.”

What industry is good?

For the moment, he really couldn’t think of anything.

While deep in thought.

Ding dong.

The Huawei phone rang.

Lu Li picked it up and found it was a bank deposit notification.

As expected, it should be the company’s settlement of his salary after resigning.

He casually tapped to look.

Sure enough, it was the company settling his salary.

Around 400,000 was deposited.

Originally, after tax, he only had about 600,000 cash left, and once again he surpassed a million.

”The salary has been settled, this time really parting ways with the company.”

Lu Li couldn’t help but sigh.

In nearly a month’s time, so many things happened.

First, he unlocked the gene lock and developed X-ray vision, making quite a bit of money with it.

Then, leveraging the various supernatural abilities brought by the unlocked gene lock, he gradually achieved a reversal in life.

From an ordinary written editor, he steadily rose to become the deputy manager of the company’s department.

He even personally overthrew Vice President Du, who was once too high to reach in his eyes.

During this period, he also earned several million in RMB.

Whether as a deputy department manager or having several million RMB, these achievements might take a lifetime for ordinary people to achieve.

And he only did it in less than a month.

It’s undeniable, the transformation is huge.

Lu Li knew that all of this was entirely due to the unlocking of the gene lock.

He had every reason to believe that the achievements made in nearly a month of ”hibernating” at the company might be the most insignificant presence in his future life.

Yes, with various miraculous abilities from unlocking the gene lock, he would keep getting better.

But now that he resigned and has freedom, how can he find a way to earn money effortlessly while lying down?

Playing with antiques all the time is impossible.

It’s lucrative indeed, but requires personal involvement, so it’s actually not the best option.

”Can’t think of anything for now,” Lu Li mused, ”but as I keep evolving, perhaps one day I’ll develop a new superpower and know exactly what to do.”
