Gene Unlocking: I Evolve Every Day

Chapter 76: Chapter 71: Spectating the Luxury Car

The next day, in the morning.

Vox, E-commerce Sales Department.

Because Lu Li took the morning off.

Brother Cheng originally planned to assign tasks for Lu Li like last time, and then get busy with his own work.

Unexpectedly, Manager Wang, who had been absent for many days, suddenly returned.

”Uh, Manager Wang, are you back from leave?”

”Manager Wang, is your mother’s health getting better?”

Old Zhu and Old Zhang went up to express their concern.

Brother Cheng, Xiaoqing, and Xiaozhao exchanged glances.

They knew a little more than Old Zhu and Old Zhang.

They knew that Manager Wang had been threatened by a certain senior executive in the company, hence he hadn’t dared to come to work recently.

Now that Manager Wang was back?

Brother Cheng, Xiaoqing, Xiaozhao, and others felt faintly that something was unusual.

Manager Wang didn’t show any expression.

He casually exchanged a few words with everyone, then gathered everyone for a morning meeting.

A group of people stood still.

Manager Wang glanced around and frowned, ”Where’s Xiaolu?”

Brother Cheng responded, ”Deputy Manager Lu took the morning off for something urgent, he might be back after lunch.”

”Oh.” Manager Wang replied expressionlessly, ”Alright, let’s start the morning meeting.”

...

On the other side.

Meeting Room One.

Liu Kexin was presiding over a high-level meeting.

Both sides of the conference table were seated exclusively with manager-level personnel and above.

Vice President Du and Vice President Ma naturally sat at the front of the left and right rows.

As for Manager Zhou, he could only be considered mid-to-upper management, not true high-level, so he sat towards the back.

Liu Kexin sat in the center and said, ”Recently, with the success of the company’s live-streaming sales project, our brand influence at Vox is further improving. Many merchants have proactively called to inquire, expressing a strong willingness to collaborate, thanks to the excellent work of the marketing department. Let’s give them a round of applause.”

Clap, clap, clap.

A round of applause ensued.

”Having finished talking about the good news, let’s discuss the internal issues of the company.”

Liu Kexin leaned back in her chair, spinning a pen in her hand, ”Recently...”

She didn’t finish her sentence.

Vice President Du suddenly raised his hand.

Liu Kexin frowned, ”Vice President Du, what is it?”

Everyone turned their gaze towards Vice President Du.

Vice President Du smiled and said, ”You just mentioned some internal issues, Liu, and I happen to have thought of one.”

Liu Kexin’s frown deepened, ”Can you wait until I finish speaking to bring it up?”

”Oh, I’m afraid I’ll forget it due to my age,” Vice President Du said bluntly, giving no face at all, ”According to company regulations, only those above manager level can be assigned a car. Deputy Manager Lu in the E-commerce Sales Department, although he’s made significant contributions, does not meet the required level. How can you assign him a company car?”

With these words, Manager Zhou, Manager Zhu, and others knew that Vice President Du was engaging in a showdown with Liu.

In an instant, everyone lowered their heads, afraid of getting caught in the crossfire.

Liu Kexin squinted slightly and said, ”The company’s policy indeed states that only manager level and above can be assigned a car, but Deputy Manager Lu’s contributions...”

”Don’t talk to me about contributions,” Vice President Du tapped the table, ”Just tell me which company policy states that cars can be assigned below manager level!”

The company indeed had no such policy.

Liu Kexin was momentarily speechless.

”Additionally,” Vice President Du pressed on, ”Deputy Manager Lu has only been employed for about two months, and yet you, Liu, fire-line promoted him, first putting him in charge of the live-streaming project, then promoting him to Deputy Manager. Does that conform to regulations?”

Liu Kexin took a deep breath, ”As the general manager of the company, I have the power to appoint and remove middle management directly. How is that against the rules?”

Vice President Du revealed his ulterior motives, ”Indeed, there’s no issue promoting him to Deputy Manager. However, the live-streaming project is a major company project and typically requires a vote by department managers to determine who’s in charge. Isn’t that against regulations?”

Liu Kexin squinted slightly and said, ”Are you suggesting removing Deputy Manager Lu from the live-streaming project?”

”It’s not about removal,” Vice President Du sneered, ”I mean it requires a vote.”

Liu Kexin already understood Vice President Du’s intentions.

Or rather, everyone present, whether Manager Zhou, Manager Zhu, or the other managers, all understood what Vice President Du was up to.

Indeed, he intended to remove Lu Li from the live-streaming project to deal a severe blow to Liu’s authority!

If Vice President Du succeeded, not only would it greatly undermine Liu Kexin’s prestige, but it would also be tantamount to declaring who actually calls the shots in the company.

Normally, Liu Kexin should be very angry at this point.

However, something unexpected happened.

Liu Kexin suddenly laughed, ”Vice President Du, are you sure you want to meddle with Deputy Manager Lu’s live-streaming project? Fine, let’s skip the vote. If you have a suitable candidate, just recommend them to the project team.”

Manager Zhou was stunned.

Manager Zhu and Manager Zhao exchanged glances.

All the other executives were bewildered, not understanding why Liu Kexin suddenly chose to back down without a fight.

Some even speculated whether Liu Kexin knew that Vice President Du was too powerful, and to avoid the embarrassment of losing a vote, she deliberately avoided direct confrontation?

Vice President Du was also taken aback, he hesitated for a moment and said, ”Liu, what are you saying? I just wanted everyone to vote.”

Saying this, a triumphant smile spread across his face, ”But since you said so, I’ll arrange someone to lead the project team.”

Vice President Du wasn’t targeting Lu Li intentionally, he just wanted to use this matter to severely diminish Liu Kexin’s prestige.

Liu Kexin smiled brilliantly, ”I’m willing to make room for the position, but let me make it clear, if Deputy Manager Lu causes trouble later, you’ll have to find a way to deal with it yourself. I won’t step in to clean up the mess.”

With that, she paid no more attention to Du and said, ”Let’s continue the meeting.”

Vice President Du didn’t think much of it.

He knew that Lu Li was formidable, but that was in terms of fighting.

They were talking about the live-streaming project now.

He didn’t believe that removing Lu Li from the lead would cause any significant impact.

Could this kid possibly refuse to livestream?

Impossible, Lu Li had signed a contract with the company!

Besides, even if Lu Li didn’t go, wasn’t there Flame Baby?

Vice President Du didn’t take Liu Kexin’s words seriously at all.

...

Noon.

Vice President Du had just finished lunch and was taking a walk downstairs.

Suddenly, he saw a large group of people gathered in the parking lot.

Curiously, Vice President Du walked towards the crowd.

”Wow!”

”Deputy Manager Lu, your car is so cool!”

”Wow, a Porsche 911, how did you manage to buy it?”

”Boss, you’re amazing!”

”Can I sit inside and take a photo to post on social media as a flex?”

Porsche 911?

Vice President Du, puzzled, craned his neck for a better look.

And saw a crimson Porsche 911 parked steadily amidst the crowd.

In the driver’s seat of this Porsche sat Lu Li, being admired like a superstar!

Upon seeing this, Vice President Du’s face turned ashen.

That morning, he had insisted on withdrawing Lu Li’s company car.

Yet, in less than half a day, the person in question had driven a Porsche 911 to work.

Wasn’t this a slap in Vice President Du’s face?

The worst part was if the content of the meeting leaked, Vice President Du knew he’d undoubtedly become the laughingstock of the entire company.

Lu Li already drove a Porsche 911, how could he possibly care about a company car?

Only Vice President Du was being miserly, insisting on taking away someone’s company car.

Doesn’t it seem petty?

What else could it be if not the company joke?

At this moment, Vice President Du’s face turned extremely sour, the kind of expression as if he had lost a dear one!
