Beast Taming: I'm Really Not a Cultivation Master

Chapter 420: Chapter 389: Raging Advance

From atop the walls of Mo Yuan City, Wen Zebin looked down and, naturally, saw the massive pillar of light shooting into the sky.

”Is that the Evolutionary Ground?” He immediately recognized where the pillar of light was rising from.

”Go and see what’s happening at the Evolutionary Ground,” he ordered, summoning a Guard.

The young Guard received the order and immediately left to investigate.

Wen Zebin averted his gaze, no longer focusing on the direction of the Evolutionary Ground.

He sat upright on the city wall, closing his eyes to rest.

Just then, a beam of Energy suddenly shot out from his Energy Bracelet.

The Energy beam took shape in mid-air, and a moment later, it formed a screen of light. Within it, the figure of Lanxin Monarch appeared.

Lanxin Monarch was the current Patriarch of the Xiahou Family—Xiahou Lan.

”Lanxin Monarch, what’s the matter? Why contact me so suddenly?” Wen Zebin asked, looking at Xiahou Lan on the light screen.

”Lord Wen Saint, I presume you’ve seen the anomaly at the Evolutionary Ground...” Xiahou Lan began, laying the groundwork.

Wen Zebin nodded, his expression unchanging, and continued to stare at Xiahou Lan.

”The situation in the Evolutionary Ground is very likely related to our Xiahou Family’s Ancestral Beast!” Xiahou Lan stated his hypothesis.

’This was what he considered one of the most likely reasons. This kind of change had never happened before; it only appeared after they sent the Ancestral Beast over.’

’He wouldn’t believe it for a second if someone told him the two were unrelated.’

”So, why are you contacting me now?” Wen Zebin asked. Although a little surprised by Xiahou Lan’s explanation, he got straight to the point.

’Since it was likely related to the Xiahou Family’s Ancestral Beast, he wanted to see just what Xiahou Lan was after by contacting him at this time.’

”I would like to request, Lord Wen Saint, that my Xiahou Family be allowed to take charge of the Guard detail at the Evolutionary Ground!” Xiahou Lan said without hesitation, getting straight to the purpose of his call.

After speaking, he added, ”The Ancestral Beast is extremely important to our Xiahou Family. We cannot afford any mishaps.”

Wen Zebin pondered this for a moment. Finally, he gave his reply, ”Your Xiahou Family wants to take over the guard duty at the Evolutionary Ground. I cannot agree to that.”

”You should know who is overseeing the evolution work inside the Evolutionary Ground right now. If anything happens to them, Zhonghai Beast Taming University and Shazhou Beast Taming University will be at our throats.”

”And I can tell you with great certainty that experts from both those universities are secretly standing guard over the Evolutionary Ground.”

After a pause, he continued, ”However, I can authorize your Xiahou Family to assist in the defense of that area.”

”Of course, my approval for you to assist in the defense isn’t unconditional. If something really does happen, even if something goes wrong with your Ancestral Beast, the safety of the two students must be your top priority.”

”You must do everything in your power to prioritize their safety. If you can do that, I will issue the order granting you the authority to assist in the defense. If you can’t, then as far as I’m concerned, this call never happened.”

After hearing Wen Saint’s reply, Xiahou Lan fell silent on the light screen. A moment later, he nodded and crisply uttered a single word, ”Agreed.”

Having reached a temporary agreement, the call ended, and the Energy Bracelet retracted its beam of light.

Wen Zebin sighed softly.

’Logically speaking, for Xiahou Lan to request to join the defense efforts at this time, and for the Evolutionary Ground of all places... To say he didn’t have selfish motives... he wouldn’t believe it for a second.’

’But even knowing full well that Xiahou Lan had ulterior motives, he had still agreed to the request.’

’The reason was simple. He needed to mobilize every force he could. The Xiahou Family was a significant force that couldn’t be ignored.’

’With the Xiahou Family joining in, the security of the Evolutionary Ground would be practically foolproof.’

As Wen Zebin was thinking this, the next moment, with a thought, another beam of light shot out from his Energy Bracelet.

The beam took shape in mid-air, revealing none other than the image of the Hundred Rivers Monarch. ℯ

The Hundred Rivers Monarch’s voice was urgent: ”Wen Saint, there’s an emergency a hundred kilometers east of Mo Yuan City.”

”An Emperor-level Skeleton Monarch is charging forward recklessly. This Skeleton Monarch is very strange. It’s not engaging us at all; it’s just pushing forward single-mindedly. Its target must be Mo Yuan City. I’m worried there might be a conspiracy afoot.”

The Hundred Rivers Monarch had just finished speaking when in the next moment, another beam of light shot out, forming a light screen in mid-air.

It was the Black Rock Monarch!

”Lord Wen Saint, there’s a situation to the north of Mo Yuan City. A Celestial Corpse Monarch is approaching at high speed. Its target is more than likely Mo Yuan City. I’m worried...”

Following that, one after another, reports came in from all four directions. All of them involved Emperor-level Pet Beasts.

After listening to the reports, Wen Zebin instructed them to do their utmost to intercept the threats. Then, he fell into deep thought.

’Without a doubt, these incidents were one hundred percent the work of the three Cult Organizations.’

’But what was their purpose in doing this? This was what Wen Zebin found deeply puzzling.’

Although there were Emperor-level Beast Masters intercepting them from all four directions, an Emperor-level Pet Beast that wasn’t looking for a fight and was solely focused on advancing couldn’t be stopped in a short amount of time.

It was almost a certainty that they would break through to the outskirts of Mo Yuan City. But what was the point of the clandestine Cult Organizations doing this?

Even if they broke through to the vicinity of Mo Yuan City, they couldn’t possibly pose any threat to the city itself.

At this moment, if Wen Zebin were more decisive and sortied from the city to attack, he could intercept at least two of the enemies from the four directions.

But his old habit of being indecisive and hesitant flared up. He feared the enemy might be using the ”lure the tiger out of the mountains” stratagem.

He was afraid they would launch a surprise attack on Mo Yuan City after he left, especially now, when a new complication had arisen within the city at the Evolutionary Ground.

He was even more reluctant to act rashly.

’After all, he had promised Teacher Lu that he would ensure Mo Yuan City was completely safe.’

Wen Zebin didn’t make a move. He remained stationed on the walls of Mo Yuan City. Soon, he saw it: plumes of dust were rising from all four directions.

It was the four Emperor-level Pet Beasts, charging forward.

Behind them, other Pet Beasts of the same Emperor Level were in pursuit. In this chase, it was clear that the fleeing Pet Beasts were already wounded; they had sustained considerable injuries.

But the Life Energy of an Emperor-level Pet Beast was astonishing. Even though they were heavily injured, there were still no signs of them perishing.

Their speed hadn’t decreased by much either.

Wen Saint stood on the city wall, watching this scene unfold. A bad premonition grew in his heart.

’He couldn’t shake the feeling that he had overlooked something.’
