Beast Taming: I'm Really Not a Cultivation Master

Chapter 408: Chapter 378: Human Nature

”Does anyone else have a Light Pet Beast or a Life-type Pet Beast?” Li Qian knew they couldn’t keep this up. Chicken Hair wouldn’t last much longer, so he asked.

”I do!” A girl from the Dongning Team, with a bit of baby fat on her face and a name that seemed to be ”Susu,” raised her hand.

Li Qian’s face lit up. With someone to help ease Chicken Hair’s burden, their situation would improve significantly.

That was what he thought. But in the next moment, what the girl named Susu said nearly made him keel over.

”But my Fluorescent Butterfly hasn’t learned any Purification Skills yet!”

Li Qian’s mouth twitched when he heard that. He was at a loss for words.

’If you haven’t learned any Purification Skills, why did you raise your hand?!’

Li Qian was utterly speechless.

Still, on second thought, it made sense. Although both Light and Life Element Pet Beasts could learn Purification Skills, there were key differences between them.

Life-type Pet Beasts were more adept at Purification. Even those with low Potential Levels could easily learn a skill or two of this kind.

Light Pet Beasts, however, were different. Their specialty was actually combat, and their Skills tended to reflect that.

Most Light Pet Beasts couldn’t learn Purification Skills unless their Power Level reached a certain point.

In short, Life-type Pet Beasts primarily focused on Healing and Purification, with combat as a secondary function. The Light Element was the exact opposite, prioritizing combat, with Healing and Purification as support.

Giving the girl named Susu a speechless glance, Li Qian turned back to Yan Qiuyang and ordered, ”Yan Qiuyang, keep searching. We need to find all the Beast Masters hiding in the shadows as soon as possible.”

”We have to be fast!” he urged, his expression anxious. ”My Sunbird is low on Energy. It can’t keep this up for much longer!”

While Li Qian was speaking with Susu and Yan Qiuyang, Zhou Yuanhao had already darted out and brought back the boy who had passed out.

With the boy unconscious, his Pet Beast had also collapsed, losing its ability to fight. This eased the pressure on them slightly.

Li Qian turned his head and looked at Li Kun and his three companions. A confused expression crossed his face as he asked, ”Among the four of you, not one has a contract with a Light or Life-type Pet Beast?”

Li Kun exchanged a glance with Ferich before shaking his head in resignation. ”No, but I do have a Special-Level Energy Block. A Pet Beast can take it to quickly recover its internal Energy.”

When Li Qian saw Li Kun produce the Special-Level Energy Block, his eyes narrowed. Special-Level Energy Blocks were no small matter. Not only were they expensive, but supply was also extremely limited. They were often impossible to find, even if you had the money.

Even Li Qian himself only owned three. This type of Special-Level Energy Block was an enormous boon in combat.

After a Pet Beast consumed it, it could recover a significant amount of its internal Energy in a short period. Of course, these Energy Blocks weren’t without their downsides.

Even Special-Level Energy Blocks contained trace impurities. Consuming them in small quantities was fine and caused no harm, but using too many at once would lead to problems. It could affect the Pet Beast’s physical constitution, leading to irreparable hidden injuries and thereby impacting its Racial Potential.

In any case, a single block would certainly cause no problems, so Li Qian accepted it without hesitation.

Both Li Kun and Ferich looked like young masters from rich families, so Li Qian had no intention of being frugal on their behalf.

’I’m working my butt off purifying these Blood Spirit Gu. It’s only natural I’d use a few of their Energy Blocks.’

With that thought, Li Qian tossed the Energy Block into the air, simultaneously alerting Chicken Hair through his Telepathy Talent.

Chicken Hair immediately dove, snatched the tossed Special-Level Energy Block from the air, and swallowed it in one gulp.

After consuming the Special-Level Energy Block, Energy began to surge endlessly from within Chicken Hair’s body, as if some hidden biological reserve had been unlocked.

Even its speed increased noticeably. Li Qian’s gaze swept across the area as he resumed his search.

’One Special-Level Energy Block won’t last long. I have to find those hidden Beast Masters, and fast.’

’Getting tangled up with these Pet Beasts is pointless. They’re just following orders.’

Fortunately, Yan Qiuyang’s energy-sensing Talent was a huge help at this moment. Due to evolutionary feedback, human bodies also contained Energy.

This Energy was the very essence of the physical enhancement from evolutionary feedback. Of course, compared to the Energy of a Pet Beast, it was practically nothing.

Yan Qiuyang was using this difference in Energy to lock onto his targets. The only issue was that the Energy Intensity was low, which limited his detection range.

He had to get within a certain distance to be able to sense them.

”There’s another one here!” Lu Tianjiao was clever; he immediately moved in closer, acting as Yan Qiuyang’s bodyguard. This allowed Yan Qiuyang to focus on sensing without worry, and he began to search more boldly. Before long, he detected a second, faint energy signature behind a massive boulder.

Without the slightest hesitation, Li Qian ordered Chicken Hair to charge in that direction. Two Pet Beasts appeared to block its path, but Bai Bingbing intercepted both of them.

Under the glow of the ”Blessing of Light” Skill, nothing could remain hidden. Soon enough, a girl stumbled out from behind the massive boulder.

A moment later, she shared the same fate as the boy from before. With two successful takedowns, the group’s morale soared.

Following this same pattern, within about half an hour, they had ”Purified” the entire wave of ambushing Pet Beasts and their Beast Masters.

The first boy who had passed out had even regained consciousness. A quick round of questioning confirmed their suspicions: he had indeed fallen prey to the Blood Demon Sect.

Furthermore, judging by his description, there were quite a few other Beast Masters in the same situation.

”What now?” Li Kun walked over and asked, his gaze deliberately sweeping over the victims—the other Beast Masters—scattered on the ground.

Ten people in total, a perfect two squads. If they abandoned them and fled now, they could probably still make it. But bringing them along... that was another story.

Li Qian knew what Li Kun was implying. After a moment of silence, he said firmly, ”We’re taking them with us. If we abandon them now, they won’t survive.”

”But if we take them, can we even make it back to Mo Yuan City?” someone from the Dongning Team grumbled.

Li Qian’s gaze shot toward the source of the voice, his brow furrowing sharply. His expression turned grim. ’Human nature is selfish, I know that,’ he thought. ’But seeing it on display right now is still disgusting.’

’I was the one who insisted on saving the five members of the Dongning Team. And now, after I saved them, one of them chooses to be indifferent in the same situation?’

Dongning saw Li Qian’s displeasure and knew exactly why he was angry. He shot the team member who had spoken a cold, sharp glare.

The team member saw the glare and sullenly backed down, not daring to say another word. But the look on his face showed he was still unconvinced, likely still believing his suggestion was perfectly reasonable.
