Beast Taming: I'm Really Not a Cultivation Master

Chapter 418: Chapter 387: A Special Red Feather Chicken

Wen Zebin began by explaining the importance of Crown Prince Feiqi and Li Jinkun. After he finished speaking, Teacher Lu on the other end of the line fell silent.

This silence made Wen Zebin very uneasy. Theoretically, what he had just said was rather inappropriate.

No one was so important that they couldn’t be sacrificed. Even with their special statuses, the two of them couldn’t be weighed against the entirety of Mo Yuan City.

Knowing what Teacher Lu was worried about, Wen Zebin continued, ”Teacher Lu, rest assured. I promise you, nothing will happen to Mo Yuan City.”

”Besides, this situation is different from usual. Both Crown Prince Feiqi and Li Jinkun volunteered to act as bait to lure the snake from its hole. If something really happened to them, how would we answer to the Chief Governor? It could also cause a diplomatic incident with the Linas Kingdom...”

Wen Zebin rattled on, trying to persuade Teacher Lu on the other end of the line.

Finally, Teacher Lu responded. His voice was deep as he said, ”Wen, I’ll go save those two boys. But I expect you to keep your promise. You must ensure Mo Yuan City is completely safe. Otherwise, we’ll both be condemned by history, and even a thousand deaths won’t be enough to atone for our failure!”

As soon as he said this, the line went dead. Clearly, Teacher Lu had already hung up.

Wen Zebin let out a long breath. Though the tension in his heart eased, his expression became extremely serious.

Without a moment’s delay, he summoned his Pet Beast and flew to the top of the city wall.

In theory, the Tidal Sea Spirit and Sunbird squads had already pushed the front line three hundred kilometers away, so Mo Yuan City should have been safe. But to guarantee the city’s absolute security, he personally took action and stood guard there.

Just as Teacher Lu had said, if Mo Yuan City fell into danger because its two Celestial-level Guardian Envoys—one overt, one covert—had left, then a thousand deaths truly wouldn’t be enough to atone for their mistake.

They would truly be condemned by history.

Mo Yuan City, the Xiahou Family’s residence.

This was a compound located in the northern part of the city, right next to the Garrison Mansion.

The compound wasn’t large, only about a thousand square meters, but its interior was elegantly arranged with pavilions, terraces, small bridges, and flowing water.

Inside a hall within the compound, more than a dozen people were gathered at this moment, their expressions solemn as they discussed something.

Xiahou Feng, the son of the current Xiahou Family Patriarch, Xiahou Lan, was one of the more outstanding among his many children. His strength had already reached Dominator Peak.

It was highly likely he would break through to the Emperor Level within the next few years.

He was also a strong contender to be the next Patriarch.

He looked at his father, Xiahou Lan, pondered for a moment, and then spoke. ”Father, I believe sending the Ancestral Beast out at this time is an extremely risky matter.”

”That brat is so young. He just got lucky to have figured out the evolution method from Red Feather Chicken to Sunbird.”

”I suspect it was just a case of a blind cat stumbling upon a dead mouse.”

”The Ancestral Beast’s situation is different. It’s not some ordinary Red Feather Chicken. If the evolution fails and its very essence is damaged, then...”

Xiahou Feng didn’t finish his sentence, but his meaning was perfectly clear.

Just as his voice faded, another young man sitting not far from him couldn’t help but shake his head.

The young man’s name was Xiahou Xing. Although not a son of Patriarch Xiahou Lan, his talent was just as outstanding, not much inferior to Xiahou Feng’s.

Together with Xiahou Feng, they were known as the Twin Prodigies of the Xiahou Family.

Xiahou Xing expressed a different opinion from Xiahou Feng. ”I believe this is an exceptionally rare opportunity.”

”It’s shameful to admit, but for all these years, the Xiahou Family has never stopped researching the Sunbird’s evolution method. Yet, our progress in this area has been anything but optimistic.”

”To say it’s ’anything but optimistic’ is just sugarcoating it. In reality, our family’s Breeders have been completely stagnating on this front.”

”There are no achievements to speak of.”

”Now that we have such a great opportunity, why should we give it up?”

He spoke eloquently, his analysis calm and unhurried, while the others in the hall listened with varied expressions.

Xiahou Xing continued without pause, ”According to the records in our clan’s history, the Ancestral Beast’s second return was after it completed a new evolution.”

”If we follow this path again, perhaps the Ancestral Beast can return once more.”

”Besides that, there’s something we have to consider. If the Ancestral Beast cannot evolve again, the life it has left won’t last much longer.”

Xiahou Xing swept his gaze across the clan members present. ”And even in the worst-case scenario, building a good relationship with Li Qian is essential.”

”Although he’s just a freshman and very young, from what I understand, his talent in breeding is monstrous, the kind one might see only once in a century.”

”Let’s not even talk about the Dominator Level. Just for Emperor-level Pet Beasts, besides the Sunbird, he has mastered the evolution for two others.”

The moment Xiahou Xing’s voice fell, the hall immediately erupted into hushed whispers.

It couldn’t be helped. A freshman who had mastered the evolution methods for three types of Emperor-level Pet Beasts—such an achievement sounded like something out of a fairy tale.

”Let’s hear everyone’s opinion.”

Xiahou Lan neither agreed nor disagreed. His gaze swept across the dozen or so people in the hall.

”I agree with Feng’s point. This concerns the Ancestral Beast; we absolutely cannot act rashly.”

”I still think Xing has a point. If the Ancestral Beast has a spirit, it surely wouldn’t want to see itself continue to barely cling to life like this.”

”...”

After everyone had voiced their opinions, Patriarch Xiahou Lan made the final decision. ”Since the majority of you believe it’s worth a try, then let’s give it a try.”

”Xing, I’ll entrust this matter to you.”

”You will take the Ancestral Beast to him.”

Hearing this, Xiahou Xing’s face lit up with excitement. ”Yes, Patriarch! I’ll take the Ancestral Beast over right away.”

”Father...”

Xiahou Feng wanted to say more, but a single glance from Xiahou Lan silenced him.

Before long, the Ancestral Beast was brought before Li Qian through various means.

The Xiahou Family had at least that much power.

Li Qian received the newly delivered batch of Red Feather Chickens and subconsciously scanned them with his Eye of True Sight.

But that one glance made his expression freeze, leaving him stunned.

’What is this?’

Among the three Red Feather Chickens that had been delivered, one was incredibly special...

The data made it so Li Qian couldn’t look away.
