Beast Taming: I'm Really Not a Cultivation Master

Chapter 406: Chapter 376: Eternal Night of Heroic Spirits

This sudden turn of events... The driver was actually Congming Mountain, the vice dean of the school’s Combat Academy. This revelation caught Li Qian completely off guard.

According to what Li Qian had learned from Lu Tianjiao, Dean Cong was an Emperor Level Beast Master, and the Pet Beast he summoned was his ace—the Cloud Immortal Beast.

The sphinx-like Cloud Immortal Beast, covered in silver Scale Armor, possessed a terrifying Power Level that had reached the Emperor High Rank. As for its exact tier within that rank, even Lu Tianjiao wasn’t sure.

Such power was something a wild Skeleton Monarch could never hope to match. However, because there were hundreds of thousands of skeletons and Flame Corpses present, Congming Mountain didn’t entertain the idea of crushing it outright.

Of course, even if he had such an idea, it would be nearly impossible to pull off right now. The Skeleton Monarch wasn’t his only enemy.

The hundreds of thousands of skeletons and Flame Corpses were the real problem, much more so than the Skeleton Monarch. If the Cloud Immortal Beast were to get trapped, it too could fall under the relentless siege.

Therefore, Congming Mountain and his Cloud Immortal Beast could only do their best to maneuver, tying up the bulk of the enemy forces to create an escape opportunity for Li Qian and the others.

Li Qian and the others weren’t fools. Seeing this, they knew exactly what to do. He immediately shouted, ”Stop wasting time! Everyone, let’s go!”

It wasn’t that he was being disloyal; he knew very well that even if they stayed, they would only be a burden to Dean Cong and wouldn’t be of any real help.

Leaving this place as quickly as possible was the best way to help him. Without a moment’s hesitation, he used his Soul Contract to tell Qizai to fly toward Mo Yuan City with all its might.

The others saw this and, without any hesitation, pushed their speed to the absolute limit, fleeing the scene as fast as they could.

Not far away, Congming Mountain, who was tied up with the Skeleton Monarch and countless skeletons and Flame Corpses, saw this and nodded slightly. ’These kids are pretty smart.’

’Of course, I also have the president to thank for his foresight. He anticipated the potential dangers of this competition and had me hide among the protection detail.’

’Otherwise, even if those kids had managed to escape alive, they would’ve been in a sorry state. Missing a limb or two wouldn’t have been out of the question.’

’I don’t know about the other students, but the university specifically ordered that Li Qian must be protected at all costs. No harm is allowed to come to him.’

At first, Congming Mountain hadn’t quite understood. After all, he was neither the dean of the Cultivation College, nor was he one of its professors.

But after watching the last cultivation competition, he completely understood. With a cultivation genius like that emerging from the university, no amount of protection could be considered excessive.

’This student is an absolute treasure. Nothing else needs to be said. As long as he’s around, will Shazhou Beast Taming University ever have to worry about a shortage of Sunbirds again?’

’Well... maybe they’ll still be in short supply. After all, evolving a Sunbird can’t be that easy, and the number of teachers and students begging for one would be enough to wear down his doorstep.’

’And then there’s Professor Yan from the Cultivation College. I heard his newly improved Extreme Fierce Sky Escape Eagle also has Emperor Level Potential, and that was a result of this kid’s research too.’

’If the president hadn’t told him this news himself, Congming Mountain would have suspected someone was pulling his leg.’

Congming Mountain’s mind was a whirl of complicated thoughts as he simultaneously dealt with the overwhelming attacks.

Fortunately, the skeletons and Flame Corpses had almost no coordination, just attacking in a chaotic frenzy. Otherwise, dealing with them would have been much more difficult.

”Dean Cong is mighty and awe-inspiring!” Just as Congming Mountain was striving to hold back the enemy, a loud, encouraging cheer sounded from behind him.

He knew that voice immediately—it was that little troublemaker, Lu Ming. The corners of his mouth twitched uncontrollably.

’This is a time for intense concentration, not for your senseless shouting!’ While he grumbled internally, Congming Mountain couldn’t suppress a flicker of secret delight.

’After all, what teacher doesn’t enjoy being so ”brazenly” admired by their students? It was a form of accomplishment, in a way.’

Just as Congming Mountain was reveling in his secret pleasure, the unexpected happened once more. From amidst the crimson tide not far away, a figure slowly rose, its height no less than that of the Skeleton Monarch.

”An Emperor Level Yanming Bie!” Seeing the dark red giant that seemed to be flowing with fire, Congming Mountain felt his lips twitch.

’That kid Lu Ming is such a jinx. The moment he started cheering, this behemoth shows up. And this thing is no easier to deal with than the Skeleton Monarch.’

”Looks like it’s time to get serious,” he muttered. In front of him, the light of a Summoning Array began to shine once more.

The light of the Summoning Array flashed and vanished, and a Humanoid Pet Beast abruptly appeared, hovering in mid-air.

This Humanoid Pet Beast was about two meters tall, its body completely encased in golden armor. It wielded a broad-bladed longsword and looked like a majestic and imposing general from ancient times.

”Long Night, you hold back this Skeleton Monarch. Xiaoyun, you go deal with that Yanming Bie.”

Congming Mountain issued the command. He had no choice but to have his two Pet Beasts switch their targets.

Long Night was a Heroic Spirit Type Pet Beast with Undead and Gold Dual Attributes. The ancient general was merely the form it manifested.

Its true form was actually a sword, one that existed on the verge of reality and illusion.

Sending it to fight the Yanming Bie, which had a type advantage over it, was clearly not a wise move.

There was no need to do so, even if Long Night had a Level advantage. The Skeleton Monarch, on the other hand, was a standard Undead Pet Beast, making it a perfectly suitable opponent.

Unlike Eternal Night of Heroic Spirits, the Cloud Immortal Beast was a Pet Beast with Demon Spirit and Life Dual Attributes. It also countered the Yanming Bie, making it a very suitable opponent as well.

Soon, with the addition of the Yanming Bie and Eternal Night of Heroic Spirits, the intensity of the battle rose another notch.

At this point, Congming Mountain truly felt like he was in a bind. He could still hold on for now, but if another opponent of the same level were to appear, he’d be in serious trouble.

’At that point, he’d probably have to play all his trump cards. He really didn’t want to go that far just to stall for time.’

Li Qian and his group saw this as well, and they pushed themselves to go even faster, desperate to leave this chaotic battlefield as soon as possible.

Only after they were gone could Congming Mountain retreat at his leisure. With his level of strength, escaping would be no trouble at all.

Finally, after much effort, they had put some distance between them and the fight. Li Qian subconsciously glanced back. In the next moment, a massive shadow on the horizon captured his attention.

”That’s... an Emperor Level skeleton bird!”

”It’s the Bone Wing Monarch!”

Lu Tianjiao started cursing loudly again, ”Fuck! What the hell kind of competition is this? Are we competing to see who dies first?”

”Kansai Beast Taming University, can’t you do a single damn thing right?!”

While Lu Tianjiao was loudly ranting, Li Qian sank into thought...

’Thinking back on it, there were many strange things about this competition. For example, Dean Cong...’

’Logically, this was just a freshman challenge. In theory, it should have been perfectly safe, yet an Emperor Level powerhouse like Dean Cong was secretly acting as a guardian.’

’It was as if... the university already knew something was going to happen...’
