Beast Taming: I'm Really Not a Cultivation Master

Chapter 417: Chapter 386: Water Dragon’s Roar, a Dilemma

Three layers of Water Curtain Celestial Splendor rose one after another, completely shielding Sun Ruirui.

RUMBLE!

A terrifying wave of Energy erupted, creating an earth-shattering boom. Amidst the roar, a purplish-black mist instantly billowed outward.

The mist crashed against an azure Energy Shield protecting the three blue water curtains. The shield twisted instantly, a constant SIZZLE of corrosion echoing out. Two of the three water curtains shattered in the same moment, leaving only a single layer on the brink of collapse.

Thankfully, she had summoned three layers of Water Curtain Celestial Splendor. Had there been only two, the consequences would have been dire.

When the purple mist dissipated, Zakum was nowhere to be seen. All that remained was the Hongbing Monarch, his azure halo fading, and Sun Ruirui behind her water curtain.

As for the three opponents who had been left on the verge of death by the crushing water currents, after being enveloped by the purple mist, they were now completely finished.

Zakum hadn’t cared one bit whether his two subordinates and the mole lived or died. Perhaps eliminating them to silence them was part of the reason he used that Skill in the first place.

”Thank you, young lady. But, uh... where are the others?” The Hongbing Monarch glanced around, and seeing that Zakum had vanished without a trace, he turned his attention to Sun Ruirui.

”You mean those three unlucky sods? Yup, they’re lying in there.” Sun Ruirui pointed inside the venue, wiped the sweat from her brow, and let out a long sigh before speaking at a leisurely pace.

An embarrassed expression crossed the Hongbing Monarch’s face. Those three ”unlucky sods” were his men.

A single moment of carelessness, and they had fallen for the mole’s trap, nearly getting wiped out. If Sun Ruirui hadn’t completed her evolution, opened her Cultivation Room, and witnessed the scene by chance, they truly would have been goners.

”Right, I’ll go check on them.” The Hongbing Monarch, still a bit embarrassed, hurried over. Before long, he had fished three unconscious subordinates out of the water.

Sun Ruirui scratched her head and gave an awkward smile. ’Having three Pet Beasts cast Water Dragon’s Roar at once was a bit much. The power was a little beyond my control, and it caught those three unlucky guys in the blast.’

’Still, compared to being dead, this outcome is pretty good. All they did was swallow a little extra water.’

The Hongbing Monarch scooped up the three ”unlucky sods,” leaped out of the venue with lightning speed, and unceremoniously dumped them on a patch of level ground. Then... he brazenly turned around and headed back.

Sun Ruirui’s mouth twitched at the sight. ”Lord Guardian Envoy, is that really how you’re going to leave them?”

”It’s fine!” the Hongbing Monarch said as he walked back. ”I’ve already called for an ambulance. They’ll be here soon enough.”

”As Dominator Level Beast Masters, their bodies are quite resilient. They won’t die anytime soon!”

Sun Ruirui immediately shut her mouth, saying nothing more. ’Their leader has already made arrangements,’ she thought, ’so what’s the point of me worrying about it?’

”Right, where is Li Qian?” the Hongbing Monarch asked, an anxious look on his face as he re-entered the venue.

Sun Ruirui pointed to a Cultivation Room amidst the puddles of water. ”He’s in there. It wasn’t a big deal, so I didn’t disturb Brother Qian.”

Hearing that, it was the Hongbing Monarch’s turn to have his lip twitch. ’An assassin came right to our doorstep, and she calls it ”not a big deal”?’ he thought. ’By that logic, what exactly *is* a big deal?’

Besides that, as a man of experience, the Hongbing Monarch noticed the particular glint in the girl’s eyes and instantly understood a few things.

He could only sigh inwardly. ’Ah, to be young!’

”As for what’s next...” He glanced at their surroundings, hesitating before he spoke.

Sun Ruirui understood what he was about to suggest. She shook her head and cut in, ”Let’s just continue. I checked, and most of the Cultivation Rooms are still perfectly intact.”

”I’m sure Brother Qian would feel the same way!”

As she spoke, Sun Ruirui pointed to a Cultivation Room a short distance away. The instant she finished her sentence, its door slid open.

A pillar of the Light of Evolution surged skyward, blindingly bright. A slender but upright figure emerged from within the spreading radiance.

It was Li Qian.

Li Qian calmly walked out and looked around, a strange expression on his face. ”I was only in there for ten minutes. How did it end up like this? Did a war break out?”

In truth, he had felt the considerable commotion even from inside the Cultivation Room and had a general idea of what had occurred.

But since the attacks never struck his particular room, he had decided to simply act as if nothing was happening.

”My apologies, Li Qian. Here’s what happened...” The Hongbing Monarch approached, looking thoroughly ashamed, and gave him a concise summary of events.

Li Qian fell silent after hearing the Hongbing Monarch’s explanation. ’What was it I said before? That there would definitely be no safety issues here.’

And he had jinxed it.

A problem had actually occurred. If Sun Ruirui hadn’t intervened, an attack really would have struck his Cultivation Room.

”Let’s just stay here. This is a perfectly... Er... Anyway, there’s no need to move!” Li Qian glanced around. He had been about to say it was a perfectly fine place, but after a look, he swallowed his words. The place now looked like a mud pit and was a far cry from ”fine.”

But as long as the Cultivation Rooms were undamaged, it wouldn’t affect his work. So, Li Qian felt there was no need to go through the hassle of relocating.

”Alright. I guarantee that from now on, there will be absolutely no more problems here. And if there are...” Seeing that both Li Qian and Sun Ruirui were adamant about staying, the Hongbing Monarch didn’t argue. His gaze turned resolute as he began to make a promise.

But before he could finish, Li Qian cut him off. ”Lord Guardian Envoy, let’s not make any grand statements. Some things are better left unsaid...”

At these words, a rare blush crept up the Hongbing Monarch’s weathered face. He was, after all, the one who had grandly promised that absolutely nothing would go wrong here.

’And the result...’ he thought. ’Never mind, best not to say anything. That way, if something does happen, I’ll have some wiggle room.’

He still felt a little stung, though. From the looks of it, these two youngsters were clearly starting to lose faith in him.

After that little (or not-so-little) interruption, work resumed. At that moment, Li Qian felt like he had transformed back into the workhorse he was in his previous life.

He was nothing more than an emotionless evolution machine.

「Meanwhile, in the Garrison Mansion.」

Just as Wen Saint had begun to relax, feeling that things were finally taking a turn for the better, terrible news arrived.

”What? Crown Prince Feiqi and the son of the Chief Governor are trapped in Tiger Gorge? And there are traces of a Legendary Level Beast Master? The Crown Prince and Young Master Li’s guards are all injured?” Hearing the news, Wen Saint felt a massive headache coming on.

After a moment of silent contemplation, he took out his phone and dialed a secure number.

Once the call connected, Wen Zebin composed himself and said, ”Teacher Lu, I have an emergency here. I need your help.”

”What’s the matter?” a lazy voice replied from the other end.

”The Crown Prince of the Linas Kingdom and the son of our Dongxia Federation’s Chief Governor are trapped in Tiger Gorge. There are signs a Legendary Level Beast Master was involved. I need you to go and rescue them, Teacher Lu!” Wen Zebin didn’t mince words, getting straight to the point.

The lazy voice on the other end of the line, the one belonging to ”Teacher Lu,” fell silent.

After a moment, Teacher Lu spoke. ”Little Wen, you need to think this through. Do you understand what it means to deploy me?”

”Old Xiao has already left. I’m Mo Yuan City’s last line of defense. Don’t forget, that big thing under the city hasn’t been completely destroyed yet. It’s still stirring!” Teacher Lu’s voice was no longer lazy; his tone had turned dead serious.

Wen Zebin’s brow furrowed at Teacher Lu’s reminder. Finally, he sighed in resignation. ”Teacher Lu, of course I know how important you are to Mo Yuan City. But we can’t let anything happen to the Crown Prince of the Linas Kingdom, nor to the son of our Dongxia Federation’s Chief Governor!”
