A Sorcerer’s Journey

Chapter 347: A Narrow Exit

What happened?

Why did the burrow entryway suddenly become so narrow?

The narrow passage opening indicated a vast number of biological creature groups inhabiting within the burrow space of the upper layer, great enough to suppress the Snowthreads. Of course, such a large cumulative native group posed a significant threat to the Demon-Hunters.

“What should we do, continue to go up, or withdraw to a burrow space and look for another way out?”

Grimm’s eyes flickered and he recollected the scene of previous burrow space. In a deep voice, he muttered, “The last burrow space had three passage openings. Two of them were about thirty meters and seventy meters respectively. They are not suitable choices. As for the last burrow space… ”

After serious consideration, Grimm decided to go into this relatively narrow passage and explore the burrow space above before he made a decision.

Since he was the captain of the Dark Demon-Hunter squad, no one opposed Grimm.

As Grimm waved his hand, the Thousand-eyed Carcinus carried several Demon-Hunters where it entered this relatively narrow tunnel opening.

About ten hours later…

Brownish-red hair dazzled on the Thousand-eyed Carcinus’s back as a chilly wind waltzed with all sorcerer robes. Everyone was excited, and each made their own guess of the cave above.

“Hmm? Young Master, we won’t go through another vast burrow space like the Wolfspider’s Burrow, will we?”

Myna asked softly on Grimm’s shoulder.

After the explosive Frost Jellyfish, Little Myna was devoid of good impressions of the Burrows.

Under his Mask of Truth, Grimm was quiet. He said nothing.

“So? Even if it’s the Wolfspider’s Burrow, it can’t be dangerous for you anyway, since you specialize in running away.”

Leafie, the parrot, loved to argue with Little Myna. Whenever Little Myna said anything, Leafie would surely respond. Surely, the absence of noise from these two chirpy avians would prove an awkward silence.

Another hour passed…

“Huh!?”

“This … what is this?!”

“A burrow space with light?”

Everyone hollered to the faint light in the distance, amazed by what they saw.

Among all the burrow spaces in the Burrow, only two of them had light: Slumberingfish Burrow and Frost Jellyfish Burrow.

“Heh.”

Grimm smiled and rejoiced, “It looks like our mission to the Burrow is nearing its end.”

Although Grimm was always a calm and composed person, he felt a burden lifted from his shoulder at that moment. This had indeed been a very exhausting mission to wander through a different, exotic world with different rules of living.

It was not hard to picture the difficulties that the initial team of reconnaissance sorcerers had to face.

“Hmm? Young Master, you mean… that is Surficial Thundra! Are we about to leave this Burrow soon?!” asserted Myna with joy.

“Well, we should be,” Grimm spoke softly.

“Oh yeah! That’s simply great! Sir, first, we have to take a hot bath! Oh, we also need to have milk oatmeal with honey bat meat, and …”

The other Demon-Hunters realized how foolish their actions before this were. They reprimanded themselves as they patted their own foreheads in relief.

After this long period living within the Burrow, the Demon Hunters had initially thought that there would always be burrows inhabited by different biological groups. They also forgot that the world’s most abundant burrow space, the real face of this world, was the Surficial Thundra!

Nairo slowly lifted her eyes under her long blonde hair.

Her eyes exuded a dim glow as she peered through her silky hair to the light in the distant opening. Two bright spots of light reflected in the pupils of her eyes.

Lou Linman gently curled her short golden hair to her right ear, exposing the blue gem earrings which ornamented her delicate earlobe. A warm smile accompanied her face, where the same smile could also be seen on Leafie the Parrot.

Saris gently moved the squirrel on her head to her chest, slowly combing its soft hair.

Everyone was in a more relaxed mood, and Grimm urged Thousand-eyed Carcinus to speed up a little more.

Swoosh…

Above the thick ice field and under the bright sunlight, the cold wind sent snowflakes pounding into everyone’s sorcerer barrier. These people were surrounded by nothing except a claustrophobic, thick rock layer for almost a year and a half. Such spaciousness gave them a freedom they’d never experienced for a long time, and they longed to shout at the top of their lungs!

Behind them was a cave about fifty meters tall.

This burrow entrance looked ordinary and insignificant in the Burrow World. It had no distinctive characteristics where it calmly laid open on the surface ice field.

Who would have thought that under the entrance of this Burrow would be such a vast, substantial, indescribable ecosystem?

Grimm could not help but picture the expedition of the Reconnaissance Sorcerers when they explored this world.

If the Reconnaissance Sorcerers were slightly careless and had not done an in-depth exploration of these burrows, perhaps this world would have never been identified as a burrow world, but as an icefield world instead.

Meanwhile.

Grimm noticed that there were no Black Isotta webbings at the burrow entrance. This meant that the Burrow entrance had not yet been discovered by Dark Demon-Hunters during the special mission before this that was issued by Black Isotta.

“Well, Master, look at these frost flowers!” shouted Myna who was in the air.

The crowd looked in the direction that Myna flew past. Looking past the snowflakes, their eyes led them to a distant hillside where a large flower field was filled with large blue and white frost flowers.

The other Demon Hunters were not concerned with the scene, assuming that these were just some ordinary creatures from the burrow world.

Grimm was lost in his own thoughts when he became suddenly shocked the moment he regained his consciousness!

“Little Myna, don’t touch those flowers!”

Grimm yelled at the top of his voice, but it seemed a little too late. Little Myna was already holding a blue flower in its mouth and chirped, “It’s so fragrant.”

At the same time, Little Myna seemed to hear Grimm’s frantic cries asking, “Why?”

The other Demon Hunters were also very puzzled by Grimm’s sudden response, but Grimm was sighing in exasperation. In a hurry, he summoned Little Myna to his shoulder and pinched out a blue flower from Little Myna’s mouth.

“Eh? Master, do you want a taste of it too? There are many more there,” asked a doubtful Myna.

The flower bore the scent of refreshing honey, emitting a fragrant aura of life. This was contrary to the aromatic aura of death from an Acraepoids’s energy stone.

Demon Hunters next to him glanced at the blue stamens in Grimm’s hands and even planned to collect some as specimens.

Crack! Crack!

The distinct sound of ice cracking faintly boomed from afar.

Everyone thought that the sound was merely the cold wind blowing on the ice layer so they naturally ignored it. In everybody’s impression, the creatures on the surface’ ice field must have been vulnerable low-level creatures.

As somber as the grim reaper, Grimm slowly lifted his head.

Under The Mask of Truth, the eyes of the sorcerer were solemn as he said, “I’m afraid everything is wrong now. We must return to the cave immediately!”

“Huh?!”

Everyone was puzzled. Why return to the cave?

Shouldn’t they be returning to the Void Fortress base right now to submit in the mission?

It was estimated that the journey from here to the Sorcerer World’s Principle Void Fortress’ base was only twenty days. Once that had been done, everyone’s Demon-Hunting Mission would then be completed.

It took less than two years to complete the mission and to earn a total of six Sorcerer Essence and now, Grimm said he wanted to return to the Borrow?

Doubtful and with confused eyes, the crowd did not act immediately but waited for Grimm’s explanation instead. Why should they return to that oppressive place called The Burrow when the task was now completed?

Crack! Crack! Crack! Crack! Crack…

Gradually, the continuous sound of cracking layers of ice finally caught everyone’s attention. With loud snorts, a red-eyed Snow Mouse stuck its head out from the ice layer on the ground a hundred meters away…

“Huh? This little creature …”

Grimm’s face changed so much and he didn’t stop the Starfall Reconnaissance Craft in the distance…

“Withdraw now!”

After Grimm yelled, he ignored the crowd and directly instructed the Thousand-eyed Carcinus to retreat into the relatively narrow entrance of The Burrow behind him.

No wonder…

No wonder the aisle under the entrance of the Burrow turned out to be so narrow. It appeared that the community of creatures living in this burrow space below was a lot weaker than expected.

It turned out that the reason was here!

After Grimm had retreated hundreds of meters from within the range of the Burrow, the crowd realized the danger and started to cry out in terror. A loud squeaking sound could be heard from afar too.

“Master, those things are similar to Ice Bats, aren’t they?” Myna asked with a quivering voice as he realized the catastrophe he just caused.

Glancing at Myna with a killer’s look, Grimm said, “What do you think?!”

“Uh…”

Grimm gritted his teeth and stomped out of a sudden at the Thousand-eyed Carcinus as he yelled, “Stop!”

“As you wish, Lord Grimm.”

Grimm drew in a deep breath and slowly turned around to the Thousand-eyed Carcinus’s back. He took off the Mask of Truth decently, exposing a brazenly chilling ice crystal on his forehead.

Grimm’s Elemental Eyes, one red and the other one blue looked sternly to the rear. He waited patiently while holding onto his Sabbatic Goat Staff.

It seemed that Grimm had just made a big decision.
