The Fantastic Little Farmer

Chapter 73: Chapter 73: I’m Really Not That Kind of Person

Zhang Yun shook his head. ”He could say we colluded to blackmail him. He has physical evidence, and he could even fabricate eyewitnesses.”

”Who?”

”His wife testifying that he was at home?”

”Wouldn’t that still be considered collusion?”

Zhang Yun laughed. ”If his wife and kids testified that he was at home in the middle of the night, no one would believe it, and a judge probably wouldn’t either. But what if he found a woman to claim they were having an affair out in the wilderness last night, that we caught them, and then blackmailed him? Do you think people would believe that?”

Zhang Long and the others immediately exchanged uneasy glances.

If Zhang Youcai dared to throw himself under the bus like that, it would definitely be more believable than him digging up ancestral graves in the middle of the night.

”How could he possibly do that? Wouldn’t that be entirely humiliating?” Jin Lu remained unconvinced. ”I think he’d rather just give us a little more money.”

Zhang Yun sneered. ”If giving us another fifty thousand yuan could solve the problem, it indeed wouldn’t be as bad as losing face. But if he gives in a second time, can you guarantee you won’t ask for a third?”

”It’s not like I’m just doing this for myself!” Jin Lu retorted, clearly annoyed. ”Why do you keep speaking up for him? Did he give you something extra on the side last night?”

”Because you don’t keep your word!”

”Who are you talking about?!” Jin Lu stood up furiously and grabbed Zhang Yun’s arm.

Zhang Yun twisted his arm back and immediately pinned him to the ground.

”Let... let go...” Jin Lu yelled in pain.

The others quickly intervened to break up the fight. ”Don’t start fighting among yourselves!”

Zhang Yun grabbed him by the head, keeping him firmly pressed against the floor. ”You’re brainless, and you’re insatiably greedy! You’re going to drag us all down with you!”

”Zhang Yun, don’t be like this! We’re all friends here!” Zhang Long hurriedly tried to persuade him.

When they were chasing the ”person playing a ghost” last night, everyone had been too tense to notice Zhang Yun’s strength. Now, seeing him pin Jin Lu down so effortlessly with just one hand, they were all astonished.

”With your attitude, if you get a second payout, you’ll definitely want a third, and a fourth! What boss would be willing to act as your personal ATM?

”Once you break your word, even if you never intend to ask for a third time, how could anyone believe you?

”I was exaggerating a bit earlier. What if he claims the five of us broke into his house last night to rob and extort him? Unless they were forced, who would transfer tens of thousands to someone else in the middle of the night?”

Zhang Yun let go and said irritably, ”You’re holding leverage that would turn the entire village against Zhang Youcai. Do you really think he’d show mercy? He’s been doing business for twenty years. Don’t you think his connections with the police, prosecutors, and courts are stronger than yours, Jin Lu?”

Rubbing his aching arm, Jin Lu muttered, ”I was just throwing it out there...”

He might have been a bit greedy and aggressive, but he was also the type to bully the weak and fear the strong. Even Zhang Long could keep him in check, and once Zhang Yun displayed his formidable strength, Jin Lu immediately stopped daring to talk back.

”Even though we recorded the evidence, he would only face moral condemnation, not legal sanctions. If we really fall out with Zhang Youcai, how many people in the village do you think would actually go and beat him up? Is spitting on him and cursing him really going to accomplish anything?”

Zhang Yun downed his beer in one gulp. ”I was the one who threw the first punch at him last night, and I took the money too! We should have either asked for more money last night, or having taken the money, we should keep our word now. That’s my stance. If you guys want to do it, do whatever you want, but don’t drag me into it!”

”Don’t be like that, we’re just discussing it with you, right? We didn’t study as much as you, so we don’t see things as comprehensively.” Zhang Long was highly supportive of Zhang Yun. He just couldn’t express himself well enough to convince Jin Lu.

”Yeah, we’re all in this together. It’s just a discussion.”

Jin Lu still mumbled under his breath, ”Whether it’s a discussion or a debate, we could just be amicable about it. Did you really need to get so angry? Now I really don’t believe you didn’t take extra money on the side... AH!”

Before he could finish speaking, Zhang Yun kicked him, sending him flying backward. ”Weren’t you the one who attacked me first, damn it?”

”Calm down, calm down.”

”Jin Lu was definitely in the wrong for attacking Zhang Yun out of nowhere.”

”Drink as a penalty!”

Jin Lu crawled over, raised his beer toward Zhang Yun, and downed it in one go.

”Then that settles it. As long as Zhang Youcai doesn’t cause trouble, we won’t mess around either.” Zhang Long made the final decision. ”Now let’s discuss the second matter!”

”What is it?” Zhang Yun had lost interest by now, assuming it was just going to be another crazy scheme.

Just a moment ago, everyone had been hesitant and uncertain, but as soon as Zhang Long mentioned this, they instantly perked up.

”Well... since we all got some money, we were thinking of celebrating. Just drinking beer is a bit too ordinary. So... we wanted to ask you...”

Zhang Yun felt a bit apathetic. He had just gotten his hands on two or three million yuan. Was he excited? Had he celebrated?

But on second thought, ten thousand yuan was a substantial amount for them, and he hadn’t handled his money much differently himself. The day he earned his first fifty thousand, he had gone out and bought a bunch of groceries, fruit, and even Maotai liquor.

”How do you guys want to celebrate? There’s nothing to do in town besides eating and drinking. Want to go to a KTV in the county town?” Zhang Yun suggested.

Guang immediately asked, ”Do you know about those kinds of KTVs?”

”Which kind?” Zhang Yun wasn’t very familiar with the KTVs in the county town either.

”You know, the kind...” Bao Sheng flashed an embarrassed smile.

Jin Lu was much more direct. ”You’re all too cowardly! What everyone means is that we want to see if you know any good places to take us to have some fun with women. Hotel nightclubs are too high-class; the little bit of money we have wouldn’t last a second there. But of course, those small hair salons are too low-class...”

After he finished speaking, all four of them stared at Zhang Yun with faces full of anticipation.

Zhang Yun was dumbfounded. ”How could you guys come up with an idea like that?”

”Nonsense! We’re all men in our physical prime, and none of us have wives.”

”Isn’t it completely normal for us to want women? Wanting men would be the real surprise, right?”

”Don’t you want a woman? In the dead of night, don’t you...”

They were acting like male cats in heat. Usually, they couldn’t afford this sort of outing, nor could they ask their families for money. It was only this unexpected windfall that left them itching to go out and have a wild time.

”AHEM...” Zhang Yun coughed dryly, interrupting their chattering. ”I’m not surprised that you want women. I’m asking why you think I could lead you there... Do I look like someone with a lot of Experience?”

”You do! You definitely are.”

”You’re handsome, and you went out of town for school. You must be wild!”

”It’s just you and Uncle Fu at home, so he must be pretty lenient about it.”

”Brother Yun! Please, take us with you!”

Zhang Yun nearly coughed up blood. ”I might be handsome, but I’m not wild, and I certainly don’t have the money to be wild!”

”Don’t be so modest. They say in the city, handsome guys can get laid for free.”

”There are definitely older women who like your type.”

”Yeah, I heard you can even get paid for it. We’re so jealous of you.”

Zhang Yun’s face darkened with exasperation. If they were joking, he could have laughed it off and played along with the banter. The problem was that these guys had genuine expressions of envy on their faces!

”If you must know, I’m still a virgin!” Zhang Yun blurted out in annoyance, throwing himself under the bus.

Zhang Long immediately shook his head. ”I don’t believe it!”

Guang agreed. ”You don’t look like one!”

Jin Lu added, ”Even if you are, it’s definitely because you’re too picky!”

”Brother Yun, just take us out to experience it. We won’t say anything out of line. We’ll even tell everyone you’re a virgin...” Bao Sheng said, his face full of longing.

”I’m really not that kind of person!”
