The Fantastic Little Farmer

Chapter 59: Chapter 59: Is This a Head-On Clash?

Zhang Yun didn’t have time to check his phone. He figured the only person who would come looking for him at home and could be considered a beauty was Chen Hui.

But what did this little brat know about great beauties? He probably saw a relatively young, not-ugly woman and called her gorgeous.

”Do me a favor and tell her that since she’s already here, she can wait a bit,” Zhang Yun said.

The child immediately ran back into the village after hearing Zhang Yun’s instructions. Zhang Fu, however, couldn’t stand listening to this anymore. Not daring to shout outdoors, he hurriedly rushed over.

”Can you have a little emotional intelligence, boy? I’m not asking you to be a notorious Wandering Son of romance like your second uncle, but if you were just a bit sharper, you wouldn’t be without a girlfriend!”

Zhang Yun chuckled. ”What girlfriend? I don’t even know who it is.”

Zhang Fu was exasperated. ”No matter who it is, a visitor is a guest. Hurry up! Go back!”

Knowing his son was worried about the farm work, he immediately added, ”I’ll handle the rest of the finishing touches. It’s not urgent anyway. If I can’t finish it, I’ll just come back in the afternoon. A girl comes to your house, and you make her wait? Have you no shame?”

Zhang Yun laughed out loud. ”It can’t be anything urgent. The house isn’t locked; she can just brew some tea for herself.”

”You... you... I don’t even know what to say to you!”

Zhang Fu sighed repeatedly. He really wanted to chase him back, but his son was already taller and broader than him. If Zhang Yun didn’t listen, it wasn’t like he could physically force him away.

Zhang Yun continued threshing the rice. With Zhang Fu speeding up to help, they finished threshing all the grain around eleven o’clock.

There was still a lot of work left to do. They had to clear the straw from the thresher’s hopper, pack the grain into snakeskin bags, and carry them out to the dirt path by the field so they could be hauled away by motorcycle later. The rice stalks and straw that had been stripped of grain also needed to be spread out to dry before being burned as fertilizer for the field.

Zhang Yun originally intended to stay and do all this together, but Zhang Fu firmly chased him away. Seeing that his father was about to get angry, Zhang Yun had no choice but to head home first.

In the past, Zhang Yun naturally would have gone to the stream to wash the mud off his hands and feet before returning home. But now, his mindset was much stronger. It wasn’t a blind date, and he didn’t need to leave a good impression. He was a rugged farmer to begin with; couldn’t acquaintances handle seeing his true self?

”Zhang Yun is back!”

”Hurry back, Zhang Yun!”

”Chop-chop, hurry up!”

After entering the village, everyone along the way greeted him with beaming smiles, leaving Zhang Yun a bit baffled. When he arrived at his doorstep, he found a car parked there, with a large crowd gathered around watching the spectacle.

Zhang Yun’s heart skipped a beat. Chen Hui shouldn’t be able to cause a scene like this, right? Only Ouyang Mingruo fit the bill!

Ouyang Mingruo was already exceptionally beautiful and possessed an extraordinary aura. She undoubtedly drove a luxury car as well. To the villagers, she would be exactly like a wealthy heiress walking straight out of a TV drama. Of course they would gather around to look.

”Don’t you all need to go back and make lunch? What are you guys doing?” Zhang Yun called out in greeting.

Seeing that he had returned, everyone cleared a path.

Zhang Yun walked forward and immediately saw a long-haired beauty wearing a tailored suit jacket and gold-rimmed glasses standing at the courtyard gate.

It wasn’t Ouyang Mingruo... He didn’t know who this was at all!

Scanning the area more carefully, he noticed the car was decent, but not a top-tier luxury vehicle. The only reason she had attracted so much attention was because she had been standing at the courtyard entrance the whole time.

Zhang Yun asked directly, ”Who are you? Do I know you?”

The onlookers were stunned by his words. Wasn’t this a classmate or friend of Zhang Yun’s? Was she a complete stranger?

The bespectacled beauty scrutinized him. ”Zhang Yun, you’ve made me wait for fifty-seven minutes. Are you going to make me talk standing out here in the sun?”

Everyone nodded in agreement. It was past eleven now, just entering the hottest time of the day. Even they were sweating just from watching, not to mention a girl standing and baking in the sun.

”Zhang Yun! Since neither you nor your father were home, this young lady insisted on not going inside. That’s really rare these days.”

”She’s very polite. Hurry up and take her inside to brew some tea.”

Hearing the crowd speak up for her, the bespectacled beauty smiled and nodded to everyone in thanks.

”Please, come inside!” Zhang Yun pointed inward, then said to the onlookers outside, ”Go do whatever you need to do. Don’t follow us in; I can’t be bothered to entertain you!”

A chorus of laughter and boos immediately erupted from the crowd. But that was just talk; those who really wanted to watch the spectacle wouldn’t leave. Even if they didn’t have the cheek to follow them into the house, they could still catch a thing or two by loitering in the courtyard or peering in from the outside.

”Have a seat anywhere!” Zhang Yun walked in, pushed open the unlocked front door, and then went to wash the mud off his hands and feet.

A few minutes later, Zhang Yun stepped into the living room. He saw that the bespectacled beauty in the suit had already taken a document from her bag and placed it on the table.

”My name is Gu Ming’er, and I am a professional lawyer. This is a letter of authorization. Li Bing from Wa Village has commissioned me to sue you for deliberately inflicting bodily harm upon him.” The bespectacled beauty cut straight to the chase, clearly stating her purpose for coming.

Zhang Yun clapped his hands. ”You waited an hour without showing an ounce of temper, and it turns out you’re a lawyer. You charge by the hour, right? Which means I helped you make money today.”

Gu Ming’er pushed the letter of authorization forward. ”That’s not important. What is important is this matter—how do you want to handle it?”

Zhang Yun waved his hand dismissively.

”Hm?” Gu Ming’er frowned slightly.

”Then go ahead and sue. You can leave now.” Zhang Yun had just brewed a pot of tea. He was about to take out two cups, but promptly put one back.

Gu Ming’er stared at him, dumbfounded. ”I waited for you for an hour, and you kick me out after just two sentences! Fine, whatever, but couldn’t you at least give me a mouthful of water?”

Zhang Yun’s eyes widened. ”Miss, I’m a decent man!”

”...???” Gu Ming’er wondered if she had misheard him. What kind of baffling response was that?

”We just met for the first time, and you’re already begging for a mouthful of my ’water’... Gasp! Aren’t you being a bit too perverted?”

”...” Gu Ming’er almost coughed up blood. She gave a cold harrumph. ”Are you secretly thrilled with yourself, thinking you’re so hilarious? Do you know I can sue you for sexual harassment at any moment?”

”Let me get this straight... You came to my house looking for me, waited an hour, begged for a mouthful of my ’water,’ and now you want to sue me for sexual harassment? No matter how you look at it, you’re the one harassing me, right?” Zhang Yun looked at her with a faint, mocking smile. ”Do you think your family owns the courthouse, or do you just believe you can play the law like a fiddle?”

This was a trap! Gu Ming’er maintained her caution, refusing to leave any verbal loopholes that might mock the law.

”Let’s put that issue aside for now...”

”Then get out!” Zhang Yun pointed at the door.

Gu Ming’er kept her emotions strictly in check. ”I came today to negotiate a mediation with you. You wouldn’t want to be taken to court over a matter like this...”

Zhang Yun immediately waved his hand. ”Who said that? I do want to! I’ll be waiting; that sounds incredibly entertaining.”

”...” Gu Ming’er was rendered speechless. Was this what they called being stubbornly abrasive?

However, as a lawyer, she had seen all sorts of people. She maintained her professional smile. ”Once the lawsuit is filed, you’ll have to travel to the courthouse time and time again. It will delay your farm work and make you a laughingstock across the surrounding villages. Are you sure you won’t consider a settlement?”

Zhang Yun smiled just as cheerfully. ”It won’t delay a thing! I have plenty of time, and my labor isn’t worth much anyway. Once I win the case, I can even force the other party to compensate me for lost wages. I’ll get paid without having to do any work! Besides, being sued by a hooligan just proves I’m a champion of justice! Why would the people in the surrounding villages laugh at me?”
