The Fantastic Little Farmer

Chapter 60: Chapter 60: I Just Want to Bribe You

Gu Ming’er frowned. ”Watch your language. My client can sue you for defamation!”

Zhang Yun chuckled. ”He can’t! A scumbag like him has no reputation to ruin! Let me give you some ammunition.”

”...”

Zhang Yun sneered. ”You help a hooligan frame a good person. You’re just a rogue lawyer making dirty money! You look pretty, but your heart is black. For a few lousy bucks, you’d disregard justice, invert the truth, and call black white! You’re the one who’ll be laughed at!”

”You, you...” No matter how hard Gu Ming’er tried to hold back, her agitation showed. He was actually attacking her personally!

”By the way, I can probably sue you for spreading rumors about me too, right? Don’t answer that. I won’t give you any money! I won’t even give you a sip of water!” After speaking, Zhang Yun poured himself a cup of freshly brewed tea and took a small sip.

”...”

Gu Ming’er was so angry she laughed. ”A guy like you looks just like a hooligan, yet you have the nerve to call someone else a hooligan!”

Zhang Yun tapped the table gently. ”Li Bing doesn’t have a damn dime. How much did Li Dajiang pay you? I can pay you double!”

He had already taken out his phone, opened his banking app, and showed his balance directly to Gu Ming’er.

”...” Gu Ming’er was completely thrown off!

Since she started studying law, she believed she had seen all sorts of people, but she had never met someone so bizarre! Before coming here, based on Li Dajiang’s description, she had assumed he was an unreasonable, violent rural youth. She never expected him to have such a sharp tongue and be so skilled at manipulating other people’s emotions.

”Whether you have money or not is none of my business. Since I’ve accepted this commission...”

”Triple!” Zhang Yun looked at her with a smile.

”This isn’t about money. I have professional ethics...”

Zhang Yun held out his hand. ”Five times!”

Gu Ming’er couldn’t continue. Usually, it was always other people haggling, hoping to lower the legal fees. She had also hoped to meet a wealthy client who would throw money at her, but unfortunately, those only existed in movies, TV shows, and novels.

Today she finally encountered one. From double to five times the amount, she couldn’t help but be shocked. However, the biggest contrast was that this was not a wealthy chairman or a domineering CEO, but a country boy!

”How much did Li Dajiang give you?” Seeing that he had intimidated her, Zhang Yun asked with a smile.

”A thousand, plus forty percent of the negotiated compensation.” Gu Ming’er suddenly felt a bit ashamed, realizing she was being looked down upon by this little farmer. Were all farmers this rich nowadays?

Zhang Yun laughed. ”Do you understand my style now? There’s absolutely zero chance of any compensation. I might even countersue! I have plenty of time and plenty of money to keep playing with you guys.”

”...” Gu Ming’er fell silent.

A rural youth was actually not intimidated by a lawyer at all, but rather extremely excited... She was speechless!

”So you only have an income of one thousand yuan, and if you don’t reach a settlement, they might even default on the payment. Will you accept my offer of five times?”

Seeing this beauty who looked like an elite lawyer at a loss made Zhang Yun very happy. Throwing money at people was truly satisfying! He hadn’t expected it to just be a few thousand. He had been prepared to offer ten or twenty times, throwing down up to eighty or a hundred thousand.

Gu Ming’er felt her face burning. This was a humiliation! Should she bow down for five thousand yuan?

”This... I wouldn’t be able to explain it to my client...” She still shook her head.

”Ten times!” Zhang Yun upped the stakes again. ”Stop struggling! Five times was enough to make you hesitate, which shows you’re not some big-shot lawyer. Maybe you’re just a rookie who hasn’t had any income this month?”

”Of course not!” Gu Ming’er snapped.

Zhang Yun shrugged indifferently. ”Since Lawyer Gu has so much backbone, I won’t force it. I’ll see you in court. I’m retracting my offer now...”

”Wait a minute!” Gu Ming’er hastily stopped him.

Bowing down for five thousand was too humiliating; ten thousand also meant losing face... She had been waiting for Zhang Yun to raise it to twenty thousand, but she hadn’t expected him to just stop playing!

Gu Ming’er glanced outside and lowered her voice. ”I can’t accept your commission to countersue the other party. I can only help you resolve this matter and make them give up.”

Zhang Yun chuckled. ”Are you planning to take the ten thousand I’m bribing you with and give him half, claiming it’s my compensation to him?”

Gu Ming’er rubbed her forehead in embarrassment. ”Could you not use the word ’bribe’... It sounds awful. Let’s call it a negotiation.”

”No! I’m paying ten times the amount to bribe you, and I’m willing to pay that. If you’re going to take it and pretend it’s my compensation, that won’t work. We’ll still have to see each other in court!” Zhang Yun tapped the table firmly.

Li Bing still wanted money? He wouldn’t give him a single cent!

Having ”bribe” emphasized again almost made Gu Ming’er break down. She could only continuously remind herself that in the service industry, profits came first.

”Then can I at least buy some fruit and go visit him?” Gu Ming’er compromised helplessly.

”TSK, TSK. He’s a wretched hooligan. If a beauty like you goes to visit him, he’ll be thrilled whether you buy fruit or not,” Zhang Yun said with a smile. ”I don’t care, you’re not my woman. But you can’t use my money to subsidize him!”

”...”

Gu Ming’er felt extremely awkward. What did he mean by ”his woman” and using ”his money to subsidize him”? She felt she would go berserk if this conversation continued, so she thickened her skin and said, ”Deal!”

”Deal on what? You agree to be bribed by me at ten times the price?” Zhang Yun emphasized it again with a smile.

”Yes.” Hearing it for the third time, Gu Ming’er no longer found the word ”bribe” quite so jarring.

Zhang Yun refused to let her pass it off vaguely. ”Don’t just say ’yes.’ You’re a lawyer! You need to state clearly, are you willing to accept my bribe or not?”

Gu Ming’er felt today had already been deeply humiliating, but since she had taken this step, she could only snap, ”Yes! Are you satisfied now?”

Zhang Yun waved his phone with a smile. ”Satisfied! Just now, when I showed you my balance, I turned on the voice recorder. This will serve as evidence...”

”Despicable!” Gu Ming’er fumed.

Because she had underestimated this country boy, she hadn’t secretly recorded anything, but ended up being recorded herself! His words just now had been guiding her into a trap the entire time!

”Don’t get excited! As the client who pays the bills, I’m very generous with payments. With evidence in hand, I don’t even need you to sign a contract or anything. It’s just a little bit of money, should I add you as a friend and transfer it directly?” Looking at the fuming Gu Ming’er, Zhang Yun leisurely took a sip of tea. ”Do you still want a sip of water?”

Gu Ming’er rolled her eyes at him. She could no longer look at the phrase ”a sip of water” the same way. She quickly showed him her QR code, wanting to finish this and leave as soon as possible.

Zhang Yun scanned the code and, after she accepted his friend request, directly transferred ten thousand yuan to her.

It was great to be rich!

Seeing that she had received it, Zhang Yun said, ”Aren’t you going to say thank you?”

”Thank you so very much!” Gu Ming’er rolled her eyes again. Good heavens! This was her first time meeting someone who demanded a thank you. Could this guy be any more bizarre?

”If there’s nothing else, I’ll be taking my leave.” She tried hard to suppress her emotions and gave a professionally polite farewell.

Zhang Yun stretched. ”There is one more thing...”

Gu Ming’er got a headache. She was just being polite! Yet, she had no choice but to continue the pleasantries. ”What is it?”

”You waited for so long without even getting a sip of water, which doesn’t seem right. It’s already lunchtime, so why don’t you stay for lunch?” Zhang Yun invited her warmly.

Gu Ming’er secretly let out a breath. From the moment they met until now, this was the only thing he’d said that sounded like something a normal human would say! But she didn’t care for it! She was just about to haughtily refuse when she heard Zhang Yun continue, ”I’ll provide the meat, vegetables, rice, and noodles for free, and you can cook the lunch...”

”You’re too much!” Gu Ming’er clenched her fists, trying hard to control herself from punching him. She had thought his conscience had kicked in and he was keeping her for a meal, but he actually wanted her to cook for him!

Right at that moment, the sound of a car engine rang out outside. It seemed someone was approaching.
