Daily Intelligence System: Don't Kill Me, Honey!

”Besides, as for this Great Buddha Temple, I came to live here of my own accord. The Living Buddha has never restricted my freedom. If I wish to leave, no one can stop me. But I cannot go.”

”If I leave, it means I have a guilty conscience. I have no guilty conscience; the one who’s guilty is Tuotuo.”

The Ruyang King said, ”I’ll just wait here, wait for Your Majesty to personally speak and clear my bad name. Only then will I leave. Otherwise I absolutely will not leave.”

Hearing the Ruyang King’s words, both Zhao Ya and Wang Baobao had splitting headaches. How could their father be this stubborn?

He insisted on waiting for Your Majesty to let him out, but it was entirely possible that Your Majesty didn’t even know he’d been seized!

When Baobao voiced this, the Ruyang King’s answer was: ”Then we wait until he knows!”

Seeing the Ruyang King like this, Baobao looked at Zhao Ya and said, ”Yaya, what do we do?”

Zhao Ya looked at the Ruyang King and said, ”Father, you truly refuse to go?”

The Ruyang King said, ”I won’t go. If I were going to go, I’d have gone long ago.”

Zhao Ya fell silent. He actually understood what was in the Ruyang King’s heart now. It was true that the Ruyang King had been tricked into the Capital by Tuotuo, but outside, everyone thought Tuotuo had spread word that a Holy Decree had summoned the Ruyang King to the Capital.

Even if Tuotuo had falsely transmitted the Holy Decree, the impact was already done. Everyone believed it was the Emperor’s decree.

At a time like this, if the Ruyang King were to run, what consequences would that bring?

Especially if he fled to Jiangnan and regrouped his troops and horses—once that spread across the realm, what would it become? It would become: the Emperor intends to cut down the vassals, the Ruyang King defies the decree, heads south and rebuilds his forces—this is rebellion!

What kind of impact would that have on the realm?

Even a Prince has rebelled—then who under Heaven would not dare rebel? The Mandate of Daqian would be at its end!

So the Ruyang King would absolutely not allow himself to bring such a huge impact upon the court. Even if the decree was fake, he, the Ruyang King, would still stay in the Capital. This wasn’t a physical imprisonment, but shackles upon the soul!

Thus, if the Ruyang King wished to leave the Capital, he would have to wait for the Emperor’s Holy Decree.

If there was no Emperor’s decree, then even knowing he had been framed, he would still absolutely not leave, so as not to bring a vile influence upon the court.

And by acting this way, there were only two possible ends for him: either he would be imprisoned for life,

or the Emperor would redress his injustice and take down Tuotuo!

This was the Ruyang King’s resolve, and also why the Living Buddha had long tried to persuade him in vain.

Zhao Ya understood the Ruyang King’s thinking and explained the situation to Baobao. Looking at the stubborn Ruyang King, Baobao for the moment didn’t know how to respond.

What they hadn’t expected was that the Little Ming King looked toward the Ruyang King and said, ”Uncle, my father used to say, ’As long as the green hills remain, one need not fear for firewood.’ Why must you do this?”

The Ruyang King looked at the Little Ming King and laughed. ”Crybaby little brat, congratulations on getting out. But do you yourself believe those words? If your father truly understood ’as long as the green hills remain, one need not fear for firewood,’ how could he have died in battle at Wending Mountain?”

After saying this, the Ruyang King looked at the slightly dazed Little Ming King and said, ”Child, go.”

Then the Ruyang King looked at Zhao Ya and Baobao and said, ”You two should hurry and go as well. In a little while, they’ll be back.”

With that, Zhao Ya and Baobao exchanged a look. Knowing they could not sway the Ruyang King, they knelt and knocked their heads to the ground, then the group directly left the Great Buddha Temple. Only once they were outside did Mei Tu dare to speak: ”The Ruyang King is truly stubborn.”

With that, the group vanished into the night. After a long while, a large force rushed straight back to the Great Buddha Temple.

Tuotuo hurried anxiously into the Buddhist Hall, and at a glance saw the Ruyang King there, pouring himself wine and drinking alone.

”Where is the Little Ming King?”

Tuotuo asked urgently!
