Reverend Insanity: Dream Gu

”Looks like Sun Cu kept his word and didn’t tamper with the immortal materials.”

Inside the cave, Lin Yan slowly steadied himself and let out a deep breath.Only then did the tension coiled in his heart finally loosen.

If it had been a scheming Gu Immortal instead, they might have secretly tampered with the immortal materials, deliberately causing his Gu refinement to fail repeatedly. With each failure, his debt would grow heavier, leaving him no choice but to depend on them more and more, until escape was no longer possible.

Fang Yuan had suffered losses like this before. That was also why Lin Yan had insisted on an agreement of five attempts from the very beginning. It was meant to guard against exactly this possibility—to prevent Sun Cu from making secret moves and slowly dragging him into a debt crisis.

Fortunately, Sun Cu had not done so. Perhaps he had only recently become a Gu Immortal and still retained some restraint of the Righteous Path. Or perhaps Lin Yan’s refinement attainment was high enough that even the slightest interference would have been noticed immediately, leaving no room for tampering.

Whatever the reason, the result was all that mattered. He had succeeded in refining Immortal Gu. Thinking back on the hardships of the past year, even Lin Yan found it difficult to put them into words. After the first failure, he learned from it and revised the recipe of Three Flavors Otherworldly Flame Immortal Gu. Because this Gu carried a subtle connection with Human Path, he added immortal materials from the Thousand Wishes Tree into the recipe.

The effect was immediate. The first attempt had failed midway through the refinement. But during the second attempt, the process advanced all the way to the final stage.

Unfortunately, it still failed at the very end—during the final stage of refinement.

At that time, Lin Yan suffered a heavy setback, and his mood sank to the lowest point. He had already reached the final step, only one step away from success, yet he still failed. The frustration was difficult to put into words. It took him an entire month to calm himself and recover before he could begin again.

But after recovering, he did not give up. He endured it and continued forward. Lin Yan revised the Immortal Gu recipe once again, but this time his attention shifted toward Dream Path.

At that moment, Lin Yan suddenly remembered something from the original novel—a lost Rank 5 Strength Path Gu worm known as Undefeated Hundred Battles Gu. It was a one-time-use Gu worm capable of greatly increasing the success rate of Gu refinement. During the climax of the Three Kings Inheritance, Fang Yuan had relied on it to refine Fixed Immortal Travel Gu, the legendary Gu worm recorded in The Legends of Ren Zu. Even now, remembering that scene still sent goosebumps through Lin Yan’s body.

Even Immortal Gu refinement was no exception. During the final stage especially, its effect became even more terrifying, capable of stabilizing the refinement to the point where success was almost guaranteed.

Because of that, Lin Yan threw himself into Dream Path research once more. Over the past year, he exhausted nearly all of the dream realm accumulation he had gathered and finally created a new Rank 5 Dream Path Gu—Dreams Come True Gu.

It was also a one-time-use Gu. Its effect was similar to Undefeated Hundred Battles Gu worm, specifically stabilizing the final stage of Gu refinement and greatly increasing the chance of success.

This research into Dream Path felt like years of accumulation finally reaching a breakthrough. Even without relying on the inheritance of predecessors, Lin Yan had continued pushing forward through his own understanding and deductions, allowing his Dream Path attainment to step into quasi-grandmaster.

In the end, on the third attempt, Lin Yan successfully refined Three Flavors Otherworldly Flame Immortal Gu.

This Immortal Gu had nearly exhausted everything he possessed. Yet through this refinement, Lin Yan’s attainments also rose once again. He had now stepped into quasi-grandmaster in Refinement Path, Flame Path and Dream Path as well, while his Human Path remained at Master attainment.

But Lin Yan quickly suppressed the excitement rising in his heart. Now was not the time to celebrate.

Without hesitation, he took out a Rank 4 Gu worm—Creation Relic Gu.

This was the perfect moment. Three Flavors Otherworldly Flame Immortal Gu had only just been refined, and its Flame Path aura still filled the entire cave. It rolled outward like a blazing tide, covering every fluctuation around him. Even if he transformed into one of the Ten Extreme Physiques and caused a massive disturbance, it would remain hidden beneath the aura of the Immortal Gu.

Whoosh!

Inside Lin Yan’s aperture, a four-colored great sun rose into the air and shone brilliantly. Its radiance spread across the entire purple crystal primeval sea. The sea was already near full, but under the influence of Creation Relic Gu, it surged upward once more until it completely filled the aperture.

Then, deep within Lin Yan’s body, A rich and violent power burst forth from within him, surging through every inch of flesh, bone, blood, and aperture. His body trembled slightly as the force washed through him again and again, as if he were being broken apart and remade from the inside out.
