Ning An's Wild Wish System

”Damn! Is this the charm of psychology?”

”Well, actually psychology is just about paying more attention to details. People lie, but details don’t. Fortune-telling is often similar to psychology in that it also looks at details.”

”Except for the Little Daoist here, I don’t believe any other wandering Daoist fortune tellers! Yesterday I spent three hundred and took a wandering Daoist to a lottery shop. The clerk brought out all the scratch-off tickets, and I asked him to pick one pack for me. I wasn’t asking for a big prize, just a little profit.”

Guess what happened? Damn! Three packs of scratch-offs and I lost nine hundred and fifty right away, plus the three hundred I gave him, I lost a grand total of twelve hundred and fifty in one day, boo hoo hoo.”

”Forget about the twelve hundred and fifty, without a big hit, you’re just worth two fifty.”

”...”

At this moment, the young guy finally spoke up, prompted by a word from Ning An.

”Brother Sect Leader, you’re right. I’m calling in because of relationship issues.”

After he said this, the sadness on his face deepened, looking like a truly melancholy boy:

”I don’t understand why she broke up with me. I was so good to her, I don’t understand.”

”She said she was unhappy today, I immediately drove her to the city center for fun. She said she didn’t eat well, I immediately took her to the best restaurant. She said she was cold today, I immediately took her to the best clothing store. I don’t understand, what did I do wrong that she wants to break up with me?”

Ning An instantly caught the main point: ”So, you’re here for me to counsel you?”

”No.”

The young guy shook his head: ”I want to know if my ex-girlfriend and I can get back together.”

Ning An frowned: ”You can’t forget your ex-girlfriend? Did she save your life?”

The young guy first shook his head, then nodded, the vitality in his eyes similar to a dying tree encountering fresh water.

”She didn’t save my life, but without her, I feel life has no hope.”

”You know, my ex-girlfriend left too many marks on my life. I can’t forget, I just can’t forget her.”

Ning An pondered before speaking: ”Let me ask, how long were you two together?”

”Three months!”

The young guy’s eyes showed deep affection, his tone very firm: ”Though we were only together for three months, she is the most important person to me.”

”Brother Sect Leader, you know, her interests and mine are exactly the same!”

”I love small animals, and so does she. Every time we went out, her eyes would light up at the sight of adorable kittens, and she’d cutely shout: ’Kitty, Mommy’s here.’”

”I also love fishing by the river, and she would wear casual clothes, bring a little cat and her homemade sweet treats, and enjoy the time with me. Every bite I took, she would laugh happily, her laughter tinkling like a wind chime, lingering in my ears.”

”...”

”Honestly, I’ve never met a girl who fits me so perfectly. I have this feeling that if I miss her, I’ll never find anyone who makes my heart beat again.”

”If I leave her, my life would have died that afternoon, and I would have lost the meaning of living. I’m scared.”

Emotionally overwhelmed, the young guy’s eyes were red, tears welling up: ”Brother Sect Leader, I really can’t let her go. I’m begging you, bring her back to me, let her be with me.”

Seeing this, the whole live streaming room was speechless.

”No, buddy, whether you’re lovesick or not, let’s set that aside. What do you mean without her your life has no meaning? Come on, are the years of love from your parents worthless compared to a girlfriend of three months?”

”Oh, damn, my short temper is flaring up! A real man should not fear lack of a wife, and here you are crying like a child. So what, the world has billions of women, you can’t find a better match?”

”I also agree with the comment above; from your description, it’s not like you’re short of money, and with money, how can you lack good girls?”

”As I’ve said, don’t miss a good girl, don’t waste time on a bad one. No matter how good she was, once you’re broken up, she’s a bad girl. Clinging to irretrievable times is just foolish!”

”...”

Previously aggressive girls also snapped back to reality, rolling their eyes at the young guy’s description.

”Is that it? That can’t be the simplest green tea tactic, can it? Oh my, he can’t even fend against this?”

”Pretend to share your interests but in fact having long since figured them out, then at unguarded moments, exaggerate and show the cutest side. It’s a simple green tea tactic, right?”

”Yeah, even I find this move trashy. I wouldn’t use it myself; today’s guys are sharp, and once spotted, it’ll lower a girl’s score in their eyes, unless the girl is truly adorable.”

”But there’s also a good side, it works like magic on naive, inexperienced guys, biting a hole in their hearts that they’ll carry to their grave, even if they die.”

”Yes, like seeing a little cat, and deliberately in a loud, cute voice, then pulling the guy’s hand, smiling brightly, and saying: ’I’m its mom, you’re its dad, we’ll have more cute kids like this...”

”To a guy who hasn’t dated before, this move is more thrilling than a Pentakill in a game, and it’s safe to say unless something unexpected happens, he’ll always think of his ex-girlfriend whenever he sees a kitten.”

”It’s a pity, another woman overtook her. This guy surely has potential, but sadly this trick only works once per person, such a shame!”

”...”

Honestly, listening to his description, Ning An thought he sounded a bit like a simp, but his ex-girlfriend seemed alright too.

But with these agitated comments stripping his ex down completely, Ning An felt a wave of chill.

Are today’s green tea tactics this frightening in their study of human nature!

Ning An had planned to let him burn incense, no matter the cost, the system would grant his wish.

But now, Ning An felt that if he allowed him to wish for this, his parents would hate him!

”Ahem, ahem, ahem.”

Thinking of this, Ning An coughed twice, trying to shift the topic: ”Looking at you, you’re either a doctor or a graduate student, right?”

The young guy scratched his head awkwardly: ”Yes, I’m a medical graduate student, in my third year of a PhD.”

Ning An clicked his tongue twice: ”PhD Year Three, and in the medical field, impressive. Judging by your look, you must be burning the midnight oil for your dissertation topic?”

The young guy, however, shook his head with a smile and said: ”Brother Sect Leader underestimates me. My paper is basically done, just a few small data adjustments, no need for all-nighters on experiments.”

Ning An didn’t understand: ”I see, so you’re doing experiments for your professor, right? Of course, a PhD nearing completion is nothing but an excellent workhorse.”

Quite a few in the live room smiled bitterly hearing this.

”When I was a graduate, I thought I had a good mentor, but ended up with a wolfish boss, and working on projects overnight without returning to the dorm was common.”

”I was a bit luckier than you. Our boss was harsh, but paid well, which made our overtime both painful and satisfying, allowing us to stick with it.”

”Oh? You guys have it rough. When my thesis was done, I just said so in the group chat, blocked everyone’s contact, and went on a trip. Came back with no issues.”

”You had a kind mentor. Try that with a boss and see. Disrespect your boss like that, not only graduation issues, extension is normal.”

”Oh, my mentor is the boss, but how could he delay me? I’d just have my Yangtze Scholar father or dean grandfather have a chat with him.”

”...”

The young guy, however, shook his head: ”No, my mentor is quite nice, nearing retirement, not dealing with projects anymore.”

Hearing this, Ning An was puzzled: ”Then you’re working hard to publish good papers and stay at school?”

The young guy continued to shake his head, seeing that Ning An couldn’t guess, he revealed the answer:

”The experiments I am doing now are for my ex-girlfriend’s graduation thesis.”
