Ning An's Wild Wish System

”Exactly, exactly, if it’s worth saying, we were narrow-minded before and misunderstood the godmother!”

”The godmother’s meaning is very clear; there are so many girls in the world, her daughter is so outstanding, and us less outstanding ones shouldn’t crowd in, go find girls from other families.”

”I’m definitely not outstanding, or else the ancestor wouldn’t have let me open my eyes to see the world. What’s a relief, thank you godmother.”

”...”

Listening to the sarcastic remarks from the stage and below, Zhao Lina was fuming, her face ashen.

She glared at the male guest, wishing she could tear him apart.

The male guest also looked back defiantly, his expression calm and smug.

The effect was exactly what he wanted!

He didn’t think much of her daughter anyway, and this whole family seemed mentally deranged, constantly spewing disgusting words.

He wanted to infuriate this old witch until she exploded!

The male guest withdrew his gaze, then whispered two things in Granny Wang’s ear.

Though she couldn’t hear what he said, Zhao Lina knew it couldn’t be anything good!

Indeed.

After hearing his words, Granny Wang glanced at Zhao Lina, then smiled happily and asked the young lady:

”Girl, let me ask you, on your side, how is the marriage dowry given?”

Upon hearing this, the livestream audience burst into laughter.

”I’m dying of laughter, this is targeting, blatantly targeting.”

”Hahaha, this guy is smart, he didn’t hold back when provoked and replied right then and there, I like him.”

”Who doesn’t know that marrying foreigners, especially in free Yingjiang, doesn’t involve dowries at all?”

”I’m laughing to death, face-close grand reveal, so refreshing!”

”...”

Predictably.

Upon hearing the words, Sister Awakening and her mother’s faces instantly turned icy cold, dark.

Isn’t this targeting?

This is blatantly targeting!

But the foreign young lady couldn’t care less about their feelings, as she was trying hard to digest the meaning behind Granny Wang’s words.

”Dowry?”

The foreign young lady racked her brain but couldn’t match this term’s meaning.

”I’m sorry, may I ask what dowry means?”

Seeing the foreign young lady’s adorable baffled expression, countless viewers’ hearts nearly shattered.

”Ahhh! Everyone move, why does he have this, why does he have this!”

”I’m nearly broken, flaunt your cool, take your revenge, but don’t accidentally hurt allies, I’m angry, trembling, and cold!”

”Furious! I’m going to the foreign section immediately, learning a foreign language now!”

”I feel embarrassed to burst your bubble. Is that video you clicked even serious? And did you really go for language learning, ugh, indecent!”

”Language is great, language should be learned, I especially enjoy learning languages in bed.”

”...”

Granny Wang looked at the male guest with admiration: ”You’ve found a good match.”

Then, Granny Wang gently explained:

”The dowry is when both parties discuss marriage, the bride’s family asks the groom’s family for a sum of money, which is called a dowry.”

When the foreign young lady heard Granny Wang’s explanation, she quickly blurted out:

”Walt? Isn’t this robbery!”

Then, realizing her outburst, the foreign young lady smiled awkwardly, and seriously replied:

”In our place, there’s no such concept when it comes to marriage.”

”We marry because of love, not for each other’s money.”

”If marriage entails the bride’s family asking the groom’s family for money, isn’t that extortion and robbery?”

”Then what’s the purpose of our marriage? If it’s his family’s money I’m after, why don’t I just marry Justin, wouldn’t that bring money faster?”

With these words, the audience below nearly clapped their hands off in applause.

”Good, good, good, I only vaguely heard that foreigners don’t need dowries, but I never knew if it was true. Turns out this isn’t a fairy tale!”

”Yes, I always thought it might just be embellishment, that the bride’s family would at least ask for some, but they really don’t!”

”This really is an eye-opener, the world must be seen with open eyes! Godmother deserves to be honored; without her, I wouldn’t have seen such a view!”

The audience in the livestream were laughing so much they lost their breath.

”I’m dying of laughter! The old woman intended to punish the men below seriously, but unexpectedly, the ancestor directly baffled him.”

”To be frank, the foreign young lady isn’t wrong; marriage should be a matter between two people, why should a dowry be involved?”

”Perhaps the bride’s family is relatively poor, so a bit of financial aid is necessary.”

”Wouldn’t it be better to directly find a local wealthy person, why trouble us ordinary folk?”

”Hey, your thinking needs improvement; it’s easier said than done to marry a wealthy person. Do you think they would notice her?”

”...”

With this push and pull, the difference was immediately evident; the worst thing in being human is comparison.

Zhao Lina’s face was frozen in shock.

But before she could speak, the foreign young lady curiously continued:

”I seem to understand the dowry a bit, which is when one party’s family is relatively poor, the child as labor is of production value.”

”After the children get married, the originally poor family loses a laborer, which might lead to insufficient income, requiring support from a slightly wealthier family.”

”Following this logic, why is it the bride’s family asking the groom’s family?”

The foreign young lady found this rationale more convincing the more she thought, her eyes brighter, firmly asserting:

”In our place, many bride’s families are wealthier than the groom’s families.”

”If a bit of support is needed for a struggling family, shouldn’t it be the bride’s family giving the groom’s family a dowry, rather than the groom’s relatively frugal family giving one?”

Finished, the foreign young lady looked proudly at Granny Wang, with a face eager for praise.

However, at this point Granny Wang was already as stunned as the audience below.

Not shocked by her Mandarin.

But by how convincingly logical she was!

The livestream viewers quickly regained composure, flooding the chat.

”Good heavens! Is this the real meaning of seeing the world with open eyes? It turns out the previous videos were just trivial acts, this is the true meaning!”

”Videos of beautiful women surely make me serene, but the liberation of thought is far more exhilarating. Yes, why can’t the groom ask the bride for a dowry? I’m furious!”

”Um... actually, our ancestors did ask for a dowry from the bride’s side, only it was called a bridal gift, which was generally no less than a dowry, whether for family pride or concern for the daughter suffering at the in-laws.”

”Yes, when I got married, my family demanded eighteen thousand from my husband’s family; they didn’t provide any bridal gift, and I have been cautiously living here ever since, can’t afford to lose face.”

”Ah? No! Why do these women only focus on dowries and not mention bridal gifts? I really thought our ancient ancestors also made it tough only for grooms!”

”Oh, this foreign girl expressed one point particularly well, that production relations determine status, no wonder she’s from a capitalist nation, her understanding of the world is clear.”

”Damn it! What do my eighty-eight thousand eight count for? Damn you, return the money!”

”Return your damned money, not kneeling properly on the washboard, yapping online huh, your salary this month is completely forfeited, no allowance, figure out social expenses yourself!”

”So tragic, is this marriage, I’m really scared!”

”It’s fearsome without Sichuan and Chongqing’s Celestial Emperor He; Sichuan and Chongqing men have ten parts of courage, Celestial Emperor He alone takes twelve, others owe two parts.”

”...”

Seeing her mother insulted, Sister Awakening standing to the side couldn’t stand it anymore.

But she was smart enough not to directly argue with everyone, instead shifting their attention.

”Little Daoist, may I make a Wish now?”

Indeed, upon hearing Sister Awakening wanting to make a Wish, the previously chatty crowd instantly fell silent, all eyes focused on her.

Everyone was immensely curious about what wish the usually surprising Sister Awakening would make.

Ning An nodded, indicating she could.

Sister Awakening immediately closed her eyes and began making a Wish:

”I wish to find someone who will always be good to me, even if it’s all fake and deceptive!”

”He must be familiar with all my hobbies and interests, everything about me; he must know and understand it all, otherwise how could he be good to me!”
