Demon Lord reborn as The Hero's Child

The massive blue crystal answered his touch with an eruption of golden-white light.

For one suspended instant, the ruined chamber, the cracked stone altar, and the freezing rain vanished from his perception. Only the brilliance remained. And from the center of that infinite glare, a memory surfaced. Pure and physical.

His scarred fingertips pressed against the smooth stone. The freezing surface turned searing hot, sending a current of energy straight through his left hand. His arm convulsed, muscles locking tight. Kōya gasped as pressure built behind his eyes. The energy poured into him like a collapsing dam.

Over a decade of compressed holy Mana erupted from the core in a single transfer. His battered body nearly buckled under the influx. His knees hit the damp stone floor hard enough to crack the masonry. The brilliance raced through his vascular system like liquid sunlight, burning away the cold.

Immediately, the violet-black Demonic Aura occupying his right side surged, rising to crush the foreign holy force entering his physical vessel. The two powers collided inside his circulatory system. Demonic mana on the right, Heroic power on the left. Neither force surrendered territory. They tore at his internal magical pathways, turning his body into a battlefield.

Kōya clenched his teeth, tasting copper.

The massive crystal pulsed again, sending another wave of holy energy into his nervous system. His spine arched. The heavy power cascaded across his chest and flooded downward.

This energy carried a fundamentally different signature than the raw power he channeled from Seiya’s sword. That previous power was his own latent reserve. This force had been meticulously stored. It carried the profound weight of lived experience. Countless years of patience.

Deep beneath the burning flood of Heroic Mana, recognition surfaced. He had felt this specific arcane structure before, centuries ago.

Raizen.

A fragmented image flashed from the depths of his soul: the Demon Destruction Sword resting in Raizen’s armored hand. A pristine crystal attached directly to the hilt, functioning as a high-capacity reservoir designed to safely stockpile excess power over vast periods of time.

The memory dissolved into the light. Kōya stared at the blinding blue stone on the altar.

”So, that is what you are.”

This was not Stormfront itself. It was the storage crystal that had once been attached to the legendary sword. Stormfront itself was still in Zeref’s possession, the Lightning Sword he had stolen from Yuna. And someone had diligently filled the crystal with holy power.

Kōya looked down at his trembling left hand.

The crystal answered with another pulse. A lifetime of preparation.

Behind him, Zeref stared at the transfer. His arrogant composure had shattered into horror.

”You recognized it,” Kōya said softly, looking over his shoulder.

Zeref’s massive wings tensed. His crackling Lightning Sword rested loosely at his side.

”It was attached to Stormfront,” Kōya stated.

Silence filled the gap between them.

Kōya’s expression hardened. ”You forcibly separated it.”

Zeref’s fingers tightened around his grip. ”Yes.”

”Why?”

Zeref glared at the glowing crystal. ”Because I could not use it. I could command the physical sword and force its lightning to answer me. But that crystal was entirely different.”

The blue light pulsed rhythmically.

”The power stored inside it was purely holy. It rejected my Demonic Mana. It actively interfered with my control of the weapon. Every attempt to draw upon the stored energy disrupted my synchronization with Stormfront.”

Kōya looked back at the altar. ”So you removed it and brought it here.”

”Yes.”

”Why didn’t you destroy it?”

Zeref’s ancient eyes grew distant. ”Destroying such a vast reservoir would have been wasteful.” Zeref looked at the glowing stone. ”She spent too many years filling it.”

Kōya froze. The chill in the damp air seemed to seep directly into his bones.

”She?”

Zeref let the word drift into the silence.

But Kōya already knew the truth.

”Yuna.”

”Yes.”

Kōya’s fingers curled into claws against the crystal. ”You knew she was storing her power inside this?”

”I knew.”

”For how long?”

Zeref looked him dead in the eye. ”For years.”

The words struck Kōya harder than the Demon Peer’s blade.

Yuna had filled this crystal little by little, day after day. While she trained in the courtyards. While she fought in mock duels. While she stood laughing beside him by the lake. All that time, this massive reservoir of her life force had waited deep inside enemy territory.

The warm holy energy continued flowing into his arm. He felt it as countless intimate moments compressed into raw power. Every stored fragment possessed a distinct history. Every minor increase represented another exhausting day she had refused to stop fighting.

Zeref watched the transfer with mounting dread. ”You cannot contain all of that energy, boy.”

The golden light reflected in Kōya’s dark eyes. ”Watch me.”

”You do not understand what you are touching,” Zeref warned.

Kōya looked down at the pulsing crystal. ”I understand what she left behind for me.”

The crystal pulsed one final time. Blinding light spread through the chamber, illuminating the darkest corners of the ruins.

Zeref took a heavy step backward, retreating from the altar.

The stored pure Mana eagerly responded to Kōya. His left side already resonated perfectly with Seiya’s ancient Hero Sword, giving him the unique capacity to channel pure holy power. He did not force the crystal to obey him; he simply received the transfer.

Kōya closed his eyes. The warmth spread through his circulatory system.

The physical world shifted.

He stood in a vast, open field. Green grass stretched beneath a clear blue sky.

A younger Yuna stood several meters away. Her shoulders rose and fell with heavy breaths. Her hands trembled from exhaustion. A battered wooden practice sword lay in the grass.

This was her exclusive memory.

She gritted her teeth, bent down, and picked up the heavy wooden sword. She raised it high.

Swing.

Again.

Swing.

Her movements lacked their usual flawless precision. She missed the imaginary target. The sword slipped from her grip, clattering into the grass.

Yuna fell to one knee in the dirt. She focused on drawing breath. Then, stubbornly, she reached down and picked up the sword again.

She swung.

Again.

Again.

The scene shifted. Another sunlit field.

Yuna was older, taller. Her combat stance was significantly cleaner. She struck a wooden training target with devastating force, cracking it down the center. She lowered the sword and wiped sweat from her brow.

Years passed in fragmented flashes. Training until she bled. Fighting larger opponents. Studying arcane theory. Recovering from broken bones. Training again.

A slightly better defensive stance. A fraction of a second faster reaction time. A cleaner strike angle. A brutal session pushed ten minutes longer.

She had become the strongest fighter in the Academy by relentlessly returning to the dirt.

The memory shifted.

Yuna sat in the shade beneath a massive silverwood tree. Stormfront rested in the grass beside her. The pristine crystal attached to the hilt glowed with a faint blue light.

She placed a bandaged hand flat against its surface.

A carefully measured amount of her pure Mana flowed from her exhausted body into the stone.

The crystal brightened briefly, accepting the offering.

Yuna offered a tired smile. ”Not much today,” she whispered to the blade. She rested her head against the rough bark. ”But it’s still something.”

Kōya stared at her, paralyzed by the weight of her quiet dedication.

The sequence of memories accelerated. Yuna trained. Yuna fought. Yuna rested in the shade. She stored more Mana. Day after day.

Countless years accumulated inside those quiet, solitary moments. The crystal grew steadily brighter.

She had spent a decade building this reserve. An entire lifetime of preparation condensed into a single vessel.

Yuna abruptly stopped her training forms. She dropped her practice sword and pressed a trembling hand against the center of her chest. Her stoic expression tightened in pain and confusion. She breathed slowly, trying to calm her racing heart.

”What is this?” she whispered, looking at her hand.

Kōya stepped closer in the memory.

Yuna looked around the empty courtyard. She lowered her hand and forced her posture straight.

”I’m fine.”

She delivered the words as an order to herself.

The physical weakness struck her again on another day. Another haunting sensation deep within her core. She never possessed the arcane knowledge to recognize the curse the Demon Peer had secretly planted inside her. She simply believed something was wrong with her body, and she trained harder to compensate.

He wanted to reach out, to warn her, but he was a ghost in her memory. He could only stand there and watch her carry a curse she did not understand.

The scenery changed to the Academy courtyards. His younger self stood opposite Yuna, still struggling to control the suffocating darkness threatening to consume him.

Yuna leveled her practice sword.

”You cheated,” she stated flatly.

”I didn’t,” the younger Kōya replied.

”You absolutely did.”

”You are just too slow.”

Yuna roared and attacked him.

The memory shifted rapidly. Brutal training sessions. Loud arguments. They pushed each other to the limit. She refused to let him get a step ahead; he refused to let her beat him. Their intense rivalry became the constant rhythm of his life.

Then the dynamic shifted.

Yuna quietly watched him sleep beneath the shade of a tree. She removed her heavy uniform cloak and placed it gently over his shoulders. She walked away, looked back, and offered a soft smile.

Another day. Yuna hid a bleeding hand behind her back.

”I’m fine.”

”You are bleeding on the stones,” the younger Kōya replied. He grabbed a medical kit and carefully wrapped the deep laceration. Yuna watched his intense concentration, smiling.

They trained in the rain, their heavy swords colliding. The mud shifted. They both lost their balance and crashed into the dirt side-by-side. They looked at each other, covered in mud, and laughed. Not because anything was particularly funny, but because they were genuinely happy to be exactly where they were.

Kōya’s chest tightened. The memories continued flowing. Their intense rivalry softened into respect. Respect evolved into trust. And somewhere, hidden between countless ordinary moments, friendship became something else entirely.

Yuna sat closely beside Kōya near the edge of the lake. The sunset reflected across the calm water. She turned her head, looking at his profile. He looked back at her.

She offered a genuine smile. ”You’re staring at me.”

”So are you.”

”I was not.”

”You were.”

She looked away quickly, her cheeks reddening in the sunset.

A heavier memory appeared.

Yuna stood alone in the empty training grounds, watching Kōya walk away toward the dormitories. She waited until he disappeared from sight.

Then she whispered into the empty air:

”I really do love you.”

Kōya squeezed his eyes shut. A tear broke past his iron control.

The final memory formed.

Yuna walked over and touched the hilt of Stormfront. A massive amount of Mana flowed into the glowing crystal. Another fragment of her uncertain future stored away.

She wanted to be ready for the day she would need every ounce of strength she possessed. Ready to protect the people she fiercely loved. Ready to face whatever dark future waited for them.

Yuna stood completely alone with Stormfront. She looked older. Stronger. Tired. Fiercely determined.

The massive crystal shone brilliantly with a decade of accumulated Mana. She placed her scarred hand gently against it.

”I’ll keep preparing.”

Yuna smiled faintly, showing a warrior’s resolve. ”For whatever comes next.”

Kōya understood the meaning. She had intentionally left behind a holy promise. A fundamental part of her essence.

The memory dissolved into white light. Yuna turned her head. Her dark eyes seemed to meet Kōya’s across the void of time. The expression on her face was peaceful. Then, she vanished entirely.

Kōya snapped back to the reality of the inner sanctum.

He knelt on the damp stone, his left hand pressed against the pulsing crystal. The arcane transfer massively accelerated. Golden-white energy flooded his circulatory system. The crystal’s blue light rapidly faded.

Kōya threw his head back, his physical body trembling under the catastrophic strain. The vast Mana threatened to rupture his magical pathways. The raw power was immense, but it was no longer terrifying. He understood it. It was Yuna’s relentless effort, her quiet preparation, her beautiful memories. She was freely giving every drop of it to him.

Kōya clenched his left hand tightly against the crystal.

”Yuna...”

The final wave of energy erupted from the core. Blinding light consumed the inner chamber, burning away the shadows. The crystal flashed twice, then went completely dark.

The oppressive silence of the Lair returned.

Kōya remained motionless on his knees. The massive crystal sat empty on the ancient altar. Every fragment of the stored Mana was gone.

He slowly withdrew his scarred hand from the stone. His breathing echoed in the quiet chamber.

His suffocating Demonic Aura aggressively surrounded the right side of his body—violet-black, impossibly dense, terrifyingly powerful. His left side carried a different inheritance. Brilliant golden Holy energy flowed powerfully just beneath his skin, illuminating his veins.

The two opposing powers existed simultaneously in perfect equilibrium within the exact same physical body.

Kōya looked down at his left hand. The same hand that had willingly received everything Yuna had spent years preparing. He closed his fingers into an unbreakable fist.

”I will carry it,” he whispered into the silence.

Behind him, Zeref stared in absolute shock.

Kōya slowly stood up and turned around.

The ancient Hero Sword lay exactly on the damp stone floor where he had strategically dropped it. He walked toward it and picked it up.

The microsecond his left hand closed around the hilt, blinding golden light surged along the blade. The Hero Sword resonated powerfully, answering his call with perfect clarity.

Kōya raised his eyes, fixing them on the demon.

Zeref’s arrogant expression had changed. The exhausted, desperate boy who had stumbled into the inner sanctum was gone. Kōya remained heavily wounded and bleeding from his shoulder, but the core of his power had permanently shifted.

Zeref felt the ambient pressure in the cavernous chamber change. The violent Demonic Aura swirling around Kōya’s right side remained lethal. The pure Power radiating from his left side burned brilliantly with the full, accumulated strength of Yuna’s life.

He had more than enough of both. Enough to fight a god. Enough to hurt the Demon Peer.

Zeref cautiously raised his crackling Lightning Sword. His massive wings snapped fully open.

Thunder rolled ominously outside the flooded Lair.

Kōya lifted the glowing Hero Sword, settling into a flawless stance.

Their eyes met across the chamber.

Zeref’s ancient expression hardened into deadly focus. ”So,” he said quietly, his voice lacking all previous arrogance. ”You successfully received everything she left behind.”

Kōya’s grip tightened around the golden hilt, his knuckles turning pale. His dark eyes burned with a dual light of violet and gold.

”I received exactly what she chose to give me.”

The raging storm exploded across the sky above them.

Zeref’s Lightning Sword ignited with searing blue-white electricity. Kōya’s Hero Sword answered with radiant golden holy light.

For the first time since the battle began, the two warriors stood facing each other on equal terms.

Zeref finally understood the terrifying truth.

The battle had fundamentally changed.
