The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

On Monday, An Yi ran into Chu Kaifeng at school.

Chu Kaifeng asked An Yi with a smile, ”Do you have time this afternoon? A new restaurant just opened near our school, let’s go try it out.”

Normally, An Yi would have agreed with a smile.

But today, An Yi seemed a bit indifferent: ”Sorry, I have something to do this afternoon, you can go by yourself.”

After she finished speaking, she walked around Chu Kaifeng and entered the classroom.

Chu Kaifeng watched An Yi from outside the classroom for a few moments, then left with a complex expression.

He didn’t go to class, instead, he found a place to sit outside and took several photos out of his pocket.

The photos featured two people, one being An Yi, and the other was Huang Long.

In the photos, An Yi was particularly close to Huang Long, they looked very intimate. In one photo, the two were whispering to each other, with a bright smile on An Yi’s face, and Huang Long looking at An Yi with a doting expression. Just by looking at these photos, it was clear that their relationship was unusual.

Another photo showed Huang Long handing An Yi a bank card, which An Yi accepted graciously.

Looking at these photos, Chu Kaifeng clenched his right hand tightly, veins bulging.

He didn’t want to believe it, but he had no choice but to believe that An Yi was secretly having a close relationship with another man, An Yi betrayed him.

Moreover, An Yi acted especially aloof in front of him, but behind his back, she was a complete material girl.

In the afternoon, after school, An Yi went to the hotel.

She was inside for a while before coming out with Huang Long, talking and laughing, then they took a taxi to go out.

Chu Kaifeng didn’t attend class that afternoon either, instead, he was following An Yi.

He watched as An Yi entered the hotel, saw her playing around with Huang Long, watched her accompany Huang Long for shopping, receiving jewelry bought by Huang Long, and watched them frequent high-end venues, his heart bleeding.

For several consecutive days, Chu Kaifeng continued to follow An Yi.

He discovered that An Yi wasn’t working part-time or going to tutoring sessions anymore, she spent all her time with Huang Long.

Moreover, she even accompanied Huang Long to a gathering of entrepreneurs.

Chu Kaifeng hid at the entrance of the clubhouse, watching An Yi dressed in a high-end gown, adorned with precious jewelry, her face smiling, full of radiance, as she walked in arm in arm with Huang Long. He struggled to restrain himself from confronting her.

A week passed, and Chu Kaifeng couldn’t take it anymore.

He went to find An Yi.

”Do you have time today?”

An Yi was organizing some books and putting them into her bag, she looked up at Chu Kaifeng with a pure smile, ”Yes, why, do you want to invite me to dinner?”

”Yes.”

Chu Kaifeng nodded.

”Then let’s go.”

An Yi followed Chu Kaifeng out of the school.

The two of them went to the newly opened restaurant.

After sitting down, Chu Kaifeng finally asked An Yi, ”What have you been up to these past few days?”

An Yi blinked, ”Pretty busy, been working a part-time job these days...”

Chu Kaifeng looked deeply at An Yi, ”Busy? Busy doing what, busy being with the rich guy?”

”What do you mean?” An Yi frowned, puzzled, looking at Chu Kaifeng.

Chu Kaifeng slammed his fist on the table, ”Stop pretending, I’ve seen it all, you’ve been accompanying Boss Huang, staying in a hotel with him, going in and out of high-end places, letting him buy you cosmetics, expensive jewelry, is that right?”

An Yi lowered her head without saying a word.

Chu Kaifeng raised his voice, ”Is that right?”

An Yi slowly raised her head, a cold smile on her face, ”So what if it is.”

”You damn...”

Chu Kaifeng lifted his hand wanting to hit An Yi, but saw her face and couldn’t bring himself to do it: ”What do you take me for?”

”A friend,” An Yi said innocently.

”A friend?” Chu Kaifeng laughed at himself, ”Is that all? We...”

Before he could finish, An Yi shrugged, ”Actually, I thought about starting a relationship with you, I planned to talk to you about it these days, but... Since you’ve seen it all, I have nothing more to say. From now on, let’s not associate with each other, let’s pretend we never knew each other.”

After speaking, An Yi picked up her bag and left.

Chu Kaifeng looked painfully at her back.

That day, Chu Kaifeng returned home drunk.

Ms. Hong saw him so drunk and couldn’t help but complain, ”How much did you drink? Did you play with your bad friends again? I’ve told you so many times, you...”

”Mom.”

Chu Kaifeng cried out loud, and after crying, he vomited furiously.

Ms. Hong felt both sorry and a bit disgusted: ”You made such a mess, you...”

Chu Kaifeng lay on the sofa acting like he was dying, tears falling bit by bit: ”How could she do this, I liked her so much, I... I just wanted to ask for clarification. If she explained to me, I would believe it. I really liked her, I... How could she do this? Why can’t she like me?”

Ms. Hong felt even more heartbroken.

She called someone to help her get Chu Kaifeng back to his room, soothing him until he fell asleep.

The next day, when Chu Kaifeng woke up, Ms. Hong talked to him.

”Kaifeng, that Pei Anyi is not good at all. She’s just a gold-digger. A few days ago, I approached her to test her, and she ended up asking for five million, saying she’d leave you if given the money.”

Ms. Hong disclosed the incident where she asked An Yi for money, of course adding many words that weren’t favorable to An Yi, painting An Yi as extremely bad and materialistic, a fox spirit that toyed with people’s feelings.

After hearing this, Chu Kaifeng felt even more distressed: ”Mom, I understand. From now on, I won’t have any connections with her.”

In the following days, Chu Kaifeng indeed stopped looking for An Yi, and even ignored An Yi when they crossed paths at school.

This made the girls in An Yi’s dorm quite puzzled.

They couldn’t resist asking An Yi one night.

”What’s up with Chu Kaifeng these days? Why isn’t he looking for you?”

”Yeah, what’s going on with you two? Did you have a fight?”

”An Yi, you’ve barely eaten properly these days, what’s wrong? Did Chu Kaifeng do something to upset you?”

An Yi sat on the bed looking upset: ”It’s nothing, just won’t be in touch anymore.”

The girls became even more curious: ”What happened? Chu Kaifeng was so nice to you, we were quite optimistic about you two, how come you’re not in touch anymore?”

An Yi covered her face with her hand and cried softly, sparkling tears falling through her fingers.

She cried very softly and with restraint, yet her crying was heart-wrenching.

The girls jumped in shock and quickly surrounded her to comfort her.

”What happened? If there’s a misunderstanding, just talk it out.”

An Yi cried for a while before looking up, wiped her tears, and revealed a smile that was both weak and strong.

”It’s nothing, I just misjudged him. I used to like him quite a bit and even considered confessing. Now I feel lucky I didn’t establish a relationship because it turns out he’s been deceiving me and didn’t trust me either.”

Under her roommates’ questioning, An Yi recounted what had happened recently.

”He told me his family was poor too, said there were many family members and high expenses, and that he borrowed money for university. Then he worked part-time with me. But... he turned out to be a rich family’s young master, just playing around with me. Recently, his mom approached me, said she’d give me money to stay away from him.”

The other girls were furious upon hearing this: ”That’s bullying, being honest is key in relationships, how could he do this?”

”Exactly, such a person is better off without. If he’s deceiving you now, who knows what he’ll do once you’re together.”

An Yi chuckled: ”I know, that’s why I asked his mom for more money.”

She smiled as she reached out: ”I asked for five million and donated it all to the Hope Project. Since his mom humiliated me, I’ll make her feel pained.”

Speaking of this, An Yi sighed again: ”Recently, a brother I’m quite close to came to the Capital for business, and my sister-in-law called asking me to take care of him. So I accompanied him around the Capital and attended a few banquets with him. Somehow, Chu Kaifeng saw this and came to confront me. I got angry and said some ruthless things.”

An Yi’s revelation shocked her roommates.

”You, didn’t you say you’re from the countryside? Your family sold chickens and so many vegetables to pay for your schooling, how come you have such a wealthy brother?”

Another girl dramatically clutched her chest: ”Pei Anyi, you’re tricking us, you’ve deceived our feelings. No, we can’t let this go easily.”

An Yi laughed lightly: ”I truly didn’t deceive you guys; I dressed like this regularly. Besides, who told you people from the countryside are poor? I never said I was poor, right? It’s been so long, I never borrowed money, and I always had good food and clothes, didn’t you notice?”

She seemed especially innocent and pitiable.

Others couldn’t really blame her.

After a while, An Yi explained properly: ”Our family really isn’t poor. My brother-in-law’s into investing and helped us earn quite a bit. We’ve built many factories for agricultural product processing, the currently popular Wuyou chips and Pei Laoshi’s braised dishes are both from our family. I own a house in Dream City, and also bought several properties in the Capital. But I didn’t deceive you. My dad divided us individually long ago, gave each of us money to mess around with, and won’t provide anymore. So I thought I can’t sit idly and do nothing, so I wanted to hone myself, which is why I worked part-time.”

An Yi’s words really gave her roommates some insight.

”You... I really didn’t expect you’d be a hidden rich person. If you have so much money, why dress like this?”

An Yi got up and looked at her clothes: ”It’s comfortable dressing like this. People in our village all dress like this. My sister, who has more money than me, isn’t dressed much better either.”

What could others do? They could only sigh.

In the dormitory, there’s a girl who likes to stand up for justice, her name is Wu Zhen. She’s the oldest, and everyone calls her Sister Zhen.

After knowing about An Yi’s situation, a few days later in the campus, she ran into Chu Kaifeng and stopped him, scolding him: ”Chu Kaifeng, I really didn’t expect you to be this kind of person, unable to distinguish right from wrong, black from white, and easily influenced, and deceiving others...”
