The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

After it snowed all night, early the next morning, Xiao Yuan had Pei Laoshi wake everyone up to shovel snow.

The roof, the yard, and outside the door were all covered in snow. Anning came out to take a look and saw it was more than ten centimeters thick.

Zhao Chuan and Chen Qiang had already gone to the fields to deal with the snow on the greenhouse, leaving the snow at home for Pei Laoshi and Xiao Yuan to handle.

Anning hurriedly put on a down jacket and cotton gloves to lend a hand.

Xiao Yuan pushed her back into the house: ”It’s cold outside, you just stay inside, there’s really not much work, we’ll finish quickly.”

”Don’t come out, it’s cold.”

Pei Laoshi, being doting to his daughter, never let the kids help with chores, especially in such cold weather.

With no other choice, Anning went back inside to change clothes and then headed to the kitchen to make breakfast.

Xiao Yuan and Pei Laoshi shoveled snow for over an hour, until they had white vapor rising from their heads.

They had just finished shoveling the snow and were waiting for Zhao Chuan and Chen Qiang to return for a meal when the phone at home rang.

Liu Dalian hurried over to answer the phone.

The call was from Pei Yu.

Liu Dalian was full of joy after the call: ”Xiao Yuan, Lao Si, hurry up and eat, after eating, go to the city to buy albums, buy several copies.”

Anning was also delighted: ”My aunt’s album is out?”

”Yes, your aunt just called saying it should already be available here.”

”Alright,” Anning said as she went to serve the meal, ”Xiao Yuan and I will first check in the county, if not, we’ll go to the city.”

The two hurriedly ate, then Xiao Yuan drove Anning out.

They were gone for nearly a day, returning at dusk, with Anning bringing back dozens of albums.

Liu Dalian took these albums around the village, promoting Pei Yu’s new album to whomever she saw, speaking as if it was unparalleled.

Pei Laoshi, however, asked Anning, ”Where did you buy it?”

Anning smiled, ”In the city, my aunt’s album is selling well. I asked the record store owner, and they said they’ve sold quite a few. Several record stores have my aunt’s songs playing at the entrance.”

Hearing this, Pei Laoshi was also pleased.

Pei Yu’s new album sparked a music-listening craze in Xiaxi Village, lasting all the way until the New Year.

The Pei Family had a good New Year; with money in the house, the holiday provisions were ample, everyone got a new set of high-quality clothes, and there was plenty to eat and wear. The Pei Family had many visitors, with people coming and going, the house was bustling.

After the New Year, when spring started, everyone in the village got busy.

In spring, the fields needed to be plowed, wheat needed watering and fertilizing, vegetables needed to be planted in private plots, and some people had to go out to work. Nearly no household in the village was idle.

The Pei Family was busy too, harvesting another crop of vegetables for sale, then starting to till and fertilize the fields.

Another matter was the house construction.

The courtyard east of the Pei Family had long been neglected, previously housing a childless widower. After the elderly passed away, with no relatives, the courtyard was reclaimed by the village. Pei Laoshi approached the village chief, and bought that courtyard, then rented an idle courtyard in the village and moved.

After moving, they began to look for a construction team to demolish the old house and build a new one.

Before constructing the house, Xiao Yuan and Anning measured the dimensions and designed the plans themselves.

This time, the construction team was recruited from the county, known for building many large buildings. Anning showed the plans to the team’s engineer. After confirming that the construction was feasible, they quickly dispatched people to demolish the house and lay the foundation.

Being a larger construction team, they worked efficiently. In a few days, the house was demolished and the foundation laid. In about ten days, the first floor was up.

In the 1990s, rural houses were usually built with brick-concrete structures, but Anning required a frame structure for their house.

Seeing the house being constructed and no work left in the fields, Anning left some money with Pei Laoshi, then she and Xiao Yuan headed to Dream City with some funds.

In Dream City, Anning and Xiao Yuan stayed at An Yi’s place.

An Yi was always studying and rarely went out, so when Anning visited, she could keep her company.

As for Pei Yu, several days passed before she freed up time for a meal together with Anning.

The album she released was a major hit, making her an instant star, leading to a packed schedule with barely any time to eat or sleep.

When the group was dining at a restaurant, Pei Yu’s large mobile phone continuously rang, with one call after another.
