Not Being a Trainer This Time

Johto Region, Goldenrod City, Goldenrod Gym.

The Gym Leader Whitney listened to the conversation coming from the livestream, and her pink eyes instantly showed an incredulous expression.

Just... Miltank that are only responsible for producing milk?

Was it what she thought it meant?

As everyone knows, there are many kinds of Pokemon in this world.

Some Pokemon love battling, and they will follow Trainers to stand atop the grand competitions.

Some Pokemon only want to live a laid-back, relaxed life; these Pokemon are often raised by humans, kept at home or on ranches, living together with people.

Unlike Pokemon that enjoy battling, these production-type Pokemon don’t receive professional training, nor do they participate in Pokemon battles.

Could it be that that Rancher actually carries out targeted special training for these production-type Pokemon?

This thought surfaced in Whitney’s mind.

And not just her; at this very moment, the streamer John in the livestream also thought of the same thing.

He quickly asked, ”So do you usually put Miltank through special training?”

Naoki looked into his eyes and nodded. ”Back then, in order to strengthen Miltank’s physique, I specifically drew up some Rollout-focused special training plans for them. Later on I stopped giving them much guidance; this is all the result of the Miltank’s own effort. I normally don’t interfere.”

These Miltank have talent that high?!

Hearing this, John was instantly dumbfounded.

Or is it that this Champion-level Trainer in front of him used some special cultivation methods?

”How did you cultivate your Miltank to become like this?” John blurted out subconsciously.

However, he quickly realized that asking someone about their cultivation methods was a bit impolite.

That kind of efficient and practical cultivation method is very likely a secret technique Naoki created himself, one that isn’t shared with outsiders.

Not only was John curious about this, at the same time the viewers in the livestream also grew excited.

[Miltank Cultivation Insights, huh?]

[I really want to know what they’re like. If only I could cultivate such a powerful Miltank myself...]

[Hey, wake up, you guys! Those are the Champion’s own cultivated insights, super precious. How could they be spread so easily!]

Yet Naoki was completely confused by John’s question.

What do you mean, how did he cultivate them to be like this? Didn’t he just answer that?

Naoki looked at the young man in front of him, then at the Miltank beside him. After a brief daze, he suddenly understood what he meant.

The other party was asking what kind of cultivation method he used to raise these Miltank!

It’s just... he really hadn’t used any special cultivation method.

The reason Miltank became what they are today is entirely the result of their own hard work.

Besides that, I guess they needed some Life Sheep Milk to supplement their nutrition?

As for the rest, Naoki had no idea.

He answered honestly, ”It’s all thanks to the Pokemon’s own effort.”

John’s face lit up with sudden comprehension. Got it! His guess was indeed correct; this Mr. Naoki must have grasped his own ”Miltank Cultivation Insights”!

This kind of thing is far too precious, and it also involves privacy. If he kept asking, it would be rude.

John decisively changed the subject.

Out of the corner of his eye he noticed those few lazy Gogoat in the distance, so he moved over and leaned on the fence to watch.

The three Gogoat were lying on the grass, basking in the sun with thoroughly relaxed expressions, their mouths seemingly chewing on something.

John turned back and asked, ”These three Gogoat are also milk-producing Pokemon, right?”

He’d already seen goat milk produced by Gogoat at the little shop on Naoki Ranch.

Hearing this, Naoki glanced at the Gogoat and didn’t deny it:

”That’s right. On the ranch they’re responsible for producing goat milk. Besides that, the Gogoat also help take care of the crops in the fields with their Grass Energy.”

”Oh? Then compared to Miltank, which of them is stronger?” John asked.

”Gogoat,” Naoki replied truthfully.

”Huh?” John looked at those seemingly harmless Gogoat, a bit surprised. ”They look so gentle!”

[Streamer, go challenge them and see!]

[+1, I’m also really curious about those three Gogoat’s strength. Pokemon raised by a Champion definitely won’t be weak, right?]

[Gogoat are strong as a species, but their typing is too single, so they’re easily countered. As far as I know, there are only a few Gogoat with Champion-level strength worldwide. Streamer, why not give it a try?]

John caught sight of the bullet-screen comments on the Rotom Phone’s display.

He was interested too. ”Right, Mr. Naoki, can I challenge the Gogoat? If I remember correctly, this is called the Grass Trial, isn’t it?”

But just as John finished speaking, he saw the man in front of him give him a sidelong glance and ask, ”Are you sure?”

John was slightly taken aback, then nodded. ”Of course. Don’t be fooled by how I look now—just a few years ago I collected seven Gym Badges. I was only one badge away from entering the Unova Grand Competition, so my strength is definitely not weak!”

Seven badges...

Naoki said, ”You can...”

He still wanted to say more, to explain the rules to this young man in detail, but before he could open his mouth, the other had already taken a second Poke Ball from his waist.

”I choose you, Excadrill!”
