Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 1304: Chapter 1300: Blood-Soaked

The surface of the jade pendant is smooth and delicate, indeed a fine piece among white jade. The Jade Bi engraved with dragon patterns looks majestic and the carving is lifelike.

However, this jade pendant is not the Panlong Ruyi as Li Hang mentioned.

The true Panlong Ruyi should be in a green hue, akin to the Luanfeng Heming, belonging to Qingbai Jade, unlike the pure white color of the jade pendant in Li Hang’s hand.

Moreover, Li Hang’s jade pendant is thin and small, not larger than the size of a palm, round-shaped, while the real Panlong Ruyi should be like Luanfeng Heming, square-shaped, engraved with coiling dragons. The whole jade should be ancient and unadorned, unlike the fanciful jade pendant that Li Hang holds.

Seeing everyone staring silently at the jade pendant in his hand, Li Hang thought they were all shocked, he couldn’t help but boast:

”This Panlong Ruyi is an Ancient Jade from the Han Dynasty, and the jade has a patina, which should be a burial item of an ancient emperor. I spared no effort to acquire it.”

He shouldn’t have mentioned patina; when he did, Huo Sining really couldn’t hold back, she quickly glanced at the three old men sitting in the front.

Sure enough, Zhou Shitao, Shi Qingyun, and the other old men had a constipated look on their faces, and Su Zhongqing sitting next to them even had a green face.

”Patina” sounds like a profound subject, but actually, it’s just rust on jade artifacts, similar to the rust on copper artifacts or the glaze on ceramics.

However, rust on jade artifacts is not produced by the jade itself but is a substance formed by the corrosion of external materials that creates a special color.

There is a saying in the antiquities circle, ancient jade that hasn’t been buried is collectively referred to as ”Passed-down Ancient Jade,” and burial jade is commonly called ”Natural Old,” the biggest difference between these two kinds of ancient jade lies in the patina.

Generally speaking, Passed-down Ancient Jade is played with in the hands of people over the years, so the jade developed by playing carries a human touch, becoming translucent, warm, and glossy.

This is why people say jade nurtures people, and people nurture jade.

Although jade is a stubborn stone, by handling it, the originally dull and rough ancient jade can restore its nature.

Unburied old jade is different. After hundreds of years, such ancient jade in tombs usually suffers from the erosion of soil or burial items, so the jade inevitably bears patina.

Of course, the diversity of soil and richness of items give rise to very different patinas on jade artifacts.

Commonly, patina on jade artifacts comes in four major types: yellow-brown patina from soil or burial pillow fragrance, cyan-blue mainly due to clothing dyeing, black from mercury from sealing coffin, white from absorbing silicic substances in the tomb.

Patina is crucial for jade artifacts, as it is key to studying jade artifact’s era and concurrent jade culture, carving techniques, and burial history.

The patina on the jade pendant in Li Hang’s hand is bright red, under normal circumstances such a color isn’t uncommon on a jade pendant. If the jade pendant is placed under a corpse, it’s very likely the body’s blood would seep into the pendant forming Blood-Soaked patina.

But the blood patina on Li Hang’s jade pendant is clearly unusual. Even Ji Kun can’t help but chuckle softly, winking at Huo Sining.

Huo Sining shook her head. This Li Hang was still smug thinking he’d gotten something good, did he not notice how displeased Su Zhongqing’s expression looked?

”Miss Huo, why are you shaking your head? Do you have a different opinion on this ancient jade?” Xing Jiaojiao asked abruptly.

She had long noticed Huo Sining’s odd demeanor, and now seeing her shake her head, couldn’t help but show a hint of annoyance, then thought of something directly asking.

With Xing Jiaojiao’s words, everyone focused their gaze on Huo Sining.

Zhou Shitao, Shi Qingyun, Huang Zhenlong and the group of old folks all turned their gaze to Huo Sining.

Especially Su Zhongqing, with a pitiful look he gazed at Huo Sining, as if silently saying, ”Huo girl, quickly deal with this fool and stop embarrassing us here.”

The frustrated expression in Su Zhongqing’s eyes made Huo Sining subtly amused.

”I don’t have a different opinion, just curious, I’d like to ask Mr. Li why this shiny and translucent jade pendant has these red spots? It really affects its appearance.”

Huo Sining asked with a smile feigning ignorance.

Her words immediately drew a disdainful and scornful glance from Li Hang.

Does this woman not even understand patina? Just trying to make a name for herself? Can she truly be Zhou Shitao’s closed-door disciple? It’s laughable!

”Miss Huo’s curiosity is this? Seems Miss Huo is not well-acquainted with ancient jade. To outsiders, these red spots might seem like blemishes, but not at all, they actually add value to this jade pendant. These red spots are the greatest evidence of the pendant being preserved from the Thousand-Year Ancient Tomb, making its value multiply several times.”

Huo Sining was speechless hearing this. Li Hang bringing a pair of fakes as gifts was one thing, but here he’s showing off in front of experts, really absurd.

He thinks others are fools, little does he know he’s the biggest fool here.

Whether it’s the three old men or Huo Sining, everyone here is an expert in this field, they can all see the problem with this jade pendant, this time Li Hang is truly making a spectacle of himself.

Seeing Huo Sining’s face frozen, Li Hang and Xing Jiaojiao looked increasingly smug, and Li Hang continued flaunting his scanty knowledge on antiquities:

”This jade pendant was unearthed from the ground, strictly speaking, it’s a burial item. These red spots are the so-called Blood-Soaked patina, formed from the blood stains of ancient corpses soaking into the jade over time creating the color.”

After saying this, Li Hang probably feared Su Zhongqing thought it unlucky the jade was a burial item, quickly adding:

”Master Su, don’t mind it’s a burial item, in fact, many antiquities are excavated burial items, especially ancient jade, there’s virtually one in every ancient tomb. True collectors wouldn’t fret over these. This Panlong Ancient Jade is from a Han Dynasty Ancient Tomb, invaluable, and most importantly, it’s said to cure ailments, truly a rare find!”

Huo Sining’s eyes flashed with sarcasm, laughed: ”Mr. Li, what is Blood-Soaked patina? How is it formed?”

Li Hang’s disdain grew greater: ”Patina is the burial impurities rusting onto jade forming special colors, Blood-Soaked is when jade mixes with the blood of the tomb master, after prolonged soaking, the blood permeates into the jade forming the color. The formation conditions of Blood-Soaked patina are special, you wouldn’t understand.”

Actually, it wasn’t that Huo Sining didn’t understand, but Li Hang himself couldn’t explain the formation conditions of Blood-Soaked patina clearly.
