Urban Martial Saint

Wanyan Second Master didn’t answer Wanyan Hongsheng. He just stared fixedly at the cars driving away and said in a low voice, ”What on earth is this Ye Qing doing? The Church’s Great Lord has taken his little brother, yet instead of urgently sending people to search for the Great Lord, he just led his men back. What is he trying to do?”

The two of them were so far away that although they managed to avoid Fu Qingping, another troublesome problem appeared—at this distance, they simply couldn’t hear what Ye Qing had just said down there. So all this time hiding here, all they could do was watch what was happening below; they didn’t hear a single sound. Since they couldn’t hear, they could only rely on guesswork. But the way Ye Qing had just acted left them with no way to even make a reasonable guess.

”Since that Great Lord snatched Ye Qing’s brother, it must be to force him to hand over the Buddha’s Relic. What else could it be?” Wanyan Hongsheng said, ”I’d say that note was basically telling Ye Qing to bring the Buddha’s Relic to trade for his brother’s life!”

”I don’t think it’s that simple.” Wanyan Second Master glanced at his younger brother and said, ”Ye Qing has Fu Qingping at his side, and that Church Great Lord isn’t an idiot. He’s already fought Fu Qingping before, so he understands exactly how powerful Fu Qingping is. Put it this way—if he dares show his face, as long as Fu Qingping discovers him, he’ll definitely die. Under those circumstances, how could he possibly try to force Ye Qing to trade the Buddha’s Relic for Ye Jun?”

”Then what’s the situation?” Wanyan Hongsheng also felt something was off. Staring at the vehicles that had already driven far away below, he muttered, ”Ye Qing and his people went back to Shenchuan City and didn’t send anyone to search for the Great Lord. Could it be that he plans to give up on this brother? That’s impossible too. Ye Qing only has this one younger brother. According to the information I got, he values this brother more than his own life. Earlier he was risking everything to find him—how could he possibly give up now?”

”That’s exactly why this is such a headache.” Wanyan Second Master said, ”We don’t know what exactly that Great Lord wrote in his note to Ye Qing, and we don’t know how Ye Qing plans to handle this matter either.”

”Most crucially, we don’t know whether Ye Qing will take out the Buddha’s Relic this time!” Wanyan Hongsheng said, ”This really is a perfect opportunity. We can’t violate Huaxia’s rules for Martial Artists, so we can’t lay a finger on his brother. Fortunately, that Great Lord is doing what we wanted to do in our stead, which makes things much easier. The Great Lord is using Ye Qing’s brother to threaten him; I’m guessing Ye Qing is very likely to bring out the Buddha’s Relic. If he does, that would be ideal. We can seize the Buddha’s Relic in the chaos. At that point, under heaven, who could possibly oppose us?”

The Wanyan Family coveted the Buddha’s Relic immensely. After all, their family’s greatest trump card was the Corpse Ghost Dragon, and the Corpse Ghost Dragon only feared the Buddha’s Relic. If they could control the Buddha’s Relic, then the Corpse Ghost Dragon would truly be unmatched, and the Wanyan Family’s grand plan could finally be fully unleashed.

But just as Wanyan Hongsheng had said, members of the Wanyan Family were also constrained by the rules among Huaxia’s Martial Artists and couldn’t strike at Ye Jun. With Shijia and Wuji both around, until they completely had everything in their grasp, they didn’t want to provoke those two. So this time, with the Great Lord capturing Ye Jun to force Ye Qing, it really was a golden opportunity for them. They were hiding here precisely to see whether Ye Qing would bring out the Buddha’s Relic to exchange for Ye Jun, and they were ready to seize the Buddha’s Relic at that moment.

Now that they hadn’t heard a thing, naturally they had no idea what Ye Qing intended to do, and couldn’t even guess whether he’d take out the Buddha’s Relic. So at the moment the two of them were burning with impatience—without clear information, how were they supposed to make a move to rob the Buddha’s Relic?

Suddenly, a flash of inspiration lit up Wanyan Hongsheng’s eyes. He looked at Wanyan Second Master and said, ”Second Brother, maybe we can just follow those two old foxes!”

”Those two old foxes?” Wanyan Second Master thought for a moment and immediately knew who he meant. In fact, when the Great Lord made his move earlier, the two of them had also been hiding here. It was just that, to avoid Fu Qingping, they’d concealed themselves farther away. Precisely because they had hidden at such a distance, they’d also spotted Nalan Jingwei and the Executioner Scholar lying low on another nearby mountaintop. There was no doubt that the ”two old foxes” Wanyan Hongsheng spoke of were Nalan Jingwei and the Executioner Scholar.

Nalan Jingwei was the Family Head of the Nalan Family, and just like the Wanyan Family, the Nalan Family also descended from the Royal Family. However, the Wanyan Family had never taken the Nalan Family seriously. After all, the Wanyan Family had accumulated a thousand years of power—that was no trivial matter. The Nalan Family, on the other hand, had no such foundation, so they simply couldn’t be mentioned in the same breath. Thus the Wanyan Family had never treated the Nalan Family as a true enemy. The Executioner Scholar was different, though. He’d originally agreed to cooperate with the Wanyan Family, but after that great battle in the Demon Hideout Cave, he’d never contacted them again. That made them suspect that the Executioner Scholar had been won over by Nalan Jingwei.

Just now, seeing Nalan Jingwei and the Executioner Scholar appear together only further confirmed their suspicions—the Executioner Scholar had definitely been turned by Nalan Jingwei. The Executioner Scholar must already be working in league with Nalan Jingwei, which made them reassess just how cunning Nalan Jingwei really was. They’d known before that the Executioner Scholar was extremely crafty, but now Nalan Jingwei seemed even craftier than the Executioner Scholar. Put the two of them together, and they really were a pair of old foxes.

”Follow them? What do you mean?” Wanyan Second Master asked in surprise.

”It’s simple. Those two old guys are both foxes who never do anything they’ll lose out on. They’ve clashed with the Great Lord several times before, so they should be very familiar with his personality and style. If they’re trailing the Great Lord, they’re definitely also aiming for the Buddha’s Relic.” Wanyan Hongsheng said, ”We’re completely unfamiliar with that Great Lord and have no idea how he operates. That’s why we didn’t trail him just now. But as things stand, we can’t very well follow Ye Qing either, since Fu Qingping is holding the fort in Shenchuan City. So I think it’d be better to switch targets and tail those two old foxes instead. As long as the Great Lord manages to get hold of the Buddha’s Relic, those two old foxes will definitely try to snatch it. Once they grab the Buddha’s Relic, we’ll have our chance to snatch it from them. Wouldn’t that be the most convenient option?”

Wanyan Hongsheng’s words made Wanyan Second Master’s eyes light up as well. He slowly nodded and said, ”Third Brother, that’s not a bad idea. Following those two old foxes is much safer than tailing Ye Qing. Fu Qingping’s strength is too overwhelming. In my opinion, unless it’s the Corpse Ghost Dragon or The Immortal Lord, no one else can handle him. If we stick too close to Ye Qing, we might end up dying at his hands. But following those two old foxes is much easier. They’re no pushovers, but the two of us against the two of them is more than enough.”

Seeing Wanyan Second Master adopt his plan, Wanyan Hongsheng was overjoyed. ”In that case, let’s not waste any more time. They’ve already had a bit of a head start. If we set off now, we should still be able to catch up!”

Wanyan Second Master didn’t say anything more. He turned and went down the mountain, running in the direction Nalan Jingwei and the Executioner Scholar had taken. Wanyan Hongsheng followed close behind. As he ran at Wanyan Second Master’s side, he asked in a low voice, ”By the way, Second Brother, how is The Immortal Lord doing now? Has his strength fully recovered?”

”With the resources of our family, helping him recover his strength is absolutely no problem. But this man is not easy to control. If we can’t fully rein him in, then once he’s back at full power, he might actually be a threat to the Wanyan Family.” Wanyan Second Master took a deep breath and said in a grave voice, ”There’s no rush on this. Let him recover gradually. There’s still some time before the Mount Tai battle. During this period, if we can find a way to plant a Heart Demon inside him, we’ll be able to completely control him. At that point, he’ll become just like the Corpse Ghost Dragon—a killing weapon entirely under our family’s command, fully at our disposal!”

”The Mount Tai battle!” Wanyan Hongsheng frowned and said in a low voice, ”I’ve received word that Shijia has already put it out that he won’t be taking part in the Mount Tai battle. And he’s already chosen someone to fight in his place—the person he picked is Fu Qingping!”

”Oh?” This was Wanyan Second Master’s first time hearing the news. He gave Wanyan Hongsheng a surprised look and said, ”Is that information reliable? Did Shijia say it himself, or is it just a rumor from nowhere?”

Wanyan Hongsheng said, ”It should be from Shijia himself. Not many people even know about the Mount Tai battle. And besides, for something like this, if Shijia didn’t personally say it, who would believe it? After all, Fu Qingping and The Immortal Lord are simply not on the same level as opponents!”

”So in Shijia’s eyes, Fu Qingping is already capable of facing The Immortal Lord?” Wanyan Second Master’s brows furrowed. That was not good news for the Wanyan Family. Fu Qingping would certainly never work for them; on the contrary, he would oppose them. The stronger Fu Qingping became, the more troublesome it was for the Wanyan Family.

”Fu Qingping is terrifyingly strong. Back at Mount Duwang, he came up with a new move on the spot that actually broke through The Immortal Lord’s defenses. I’d say that move has already brushed against the edge of surpassing the Acme.” Wanyan Hongsheng took a deep breath. Even now, just mentioning that battle at Mount Duwang still left him shaken.

He was one of the standouts among the Peak Masters, yet in that battle he’d been utterly powerless. When Fu Qingping’s three-zhang Giant Sword fell from the sky, even though he hadn’t been directly beneath it, he’d still felt that deep, bone-chilling despair—a hopelessness where you couldn’t block, couldn’t dodge, and could only stand there and wait for death with your eyes wide open!
