Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Chapter 312: Chapter 294: Qin Liang

”I’ve got no signal on my phone,” Luo Qianqian said with a mournful expression, her heart seemingly crushed. If she were to make a move, then Bai Yixian might as well wait for death.

”Signal? I have a satellite phone.” Bai Yixian took out something from his bag but he looked at Luo Qianqian very seriously, ”Are you sure the person you’re contacting is reliable? Won’t it lead to exposure?”

Luo Qianqian rolled her eyes, ”What other choice do I have but to trust you now? You’re a dead man in my hands, with no tetanus shots or means of disinfection and anesthesia. If the pain doesn’t kill you, the wound infection will.”

Bai Yixian didn’t reply. He had a lighter in his hand, but he truly had nothing else.

Luo Qianqian took out her phone, which had become somewhat unresponsive from the cold, located the office number, and dialed it using the satellite phone.

”Hello, this is 168th Company.”

”Company Commander? This is First Platoon, Class One’s Le... Ye Meng.” Luo Qianqian almost spilled the truth but managed to stop herself in time.

”Ye Meng?” Qin Liang looked at the receiver in surprise. The area usually had no signal; was there an emergency that enabled the call?

”Could you please find Fang Rou for me, and have her bring surgical, disinfection, and anesthesia tools to me? I have an... acquaintance here who’s injured. Not someone from the company,” Luo Qianqian chose her words carefully, a look of distress on her face. Who knew the numerous rumors that circulated about the Great Demon King had scared her into keeping her mouth shut?

”Location,” Qin Liang didn’t say much else, cutting straight to the point.

”It’s just that...”

”Is there any distinct landmark around you?”

”Do trees count?” Luo Qianqian’s face fell. There weren’t any landmarks here.

”Why don’t you just say you’re under the moon?” Qin Liang held his forehead, the veins on it throbbing visibly.

”Well, not exactly; the moon is diagonally above me.” Luo Qianqian looked carefully at the moon before answering, ”You can see a red flag from here, and there’s a very big tree, quite noticeable with a pointy...”

”That’s a pine tree,” Bai Yixian’s mouth twitched.

”It’s a pine tree, a huge pine tree.”

”Got it,” Qin Liang hung up the phone, rubbed the furious vein on his forehead and muttered, ”Stay calm.”

”If you were kidnapped, no one would be able to find you,” Bai Yixian shook his head at Luo Qianqian, ”So you’re, not going to study anymore?”

”Of course, I’ll study. Why wouldn’t I? If I didn’t, I couldn’t explain it to my mom.” Luo Qianqian shook her head, ”I’ll see if I can apply directly, then take the college entrance exam next year. That would save time.” She was also afraid that waiting too long would cause her to forget everything she knew. Luo Qianqian hadn’t even thought about studying for quite some time, utterly lacking the energy to remember that she had to study. Once she got settled, she’d have to ask Ye Liang to send over some materials – she couldn’t afford to lose her knowledge, especially since she still carried her mother’s expectations.

”You’re tired too,” Bai Yixian gave a wry smile, ”Who would have thought someone as delicate as you could be so responsible?”

”Initially, when Big Brother Bai and his brother were entrusted by the Luo family, to take extra care of us siblings, Qianqian was very grateful. But there is one thing I must ask of you.” Luo Qianqian hesitated but still spoke first, ”I’m here at the request of Big Brother Ye Liang, and so, while I’m here, I am not me; I am Big Brother Ye Liang’s sister, Ye Meng. I hope Big Brother Bai won’t give me away.”

Bai Yixian’s eyes widened, Ye Liang? Why did that name sound familiar?

”It’s okay, I understand.” Bai Yixian nodded. After all, hadn’t he joined the military using someone else’s identity?

Luo Qianqian let out a sigh of relief, ”Thank goodness it will be the girl from our dorm... miss...”

”Ye Meng.” Qin Liang appeared in front of them just in time, and Luo Qianqian wasn’t sure if he had heard her previous conversation. With guilt in her heart, it was difficult for her to speak.

”Company Commander... How come you’re here in person?”

”’No males allowed in the female dormitory, male personnel keep out,’” Qin Liang said with amusement, looking at Luo Qianqian and then turning his attention to Bai Yixian. He squatted down to examine the wound professionally, ”Gunshot wound?”

Bai Yixian nodded, amused by Luo Qianqian’s guilty demeanor.

”Do you need anesthesia?” Qin Liang asked while frowning at the location of the wound. In truth, it was not too bad, being on the thigh, but since it was uncomfortably close to the groin area, there might be repercussions... on a man’s dignity.

”Yes,” Bai Yixian’s face flushed at the question, which, under the dim moonlight, was surprisingly noticeable.

Luo Qianqian smiled as if she thought of something amusing. She was silent but took off her coat to keep Bai Yixian warm. He was wearing even less than Luo Qianqian who had not taken off her own coat.

”Ye Meng, do you choose to help or to keep watch?” Qin Liang didn’t start working right away, instead turning to look at Luo Qianqian, who didn’t know what to do and was at a loss for action, yet still smiled awkwardly.

Luo Qianqian hesitated, ”If my help is definitely needed, then I’ll assist; if not, I’ll keep watch.” Watching Qin Liang use a flashlight to inspect the wound carefully, the shocking red made her turn away.

Seeing her reaction, Qin Liang decisively said, ”Then come over and help.”

”???” Luo Qianqian’s eyes widened in disbelief. Clearly, you can do this alone, so why do you insist on me coming?

”Help me twist open the bottle; I need to wash my hands,” Qin Liang instructed with a slightly dark look in his eyes.

Luo Qianqian quickly got the water ready and approached Qin Liang’s hands, pouring slowly.

The medical bag laid to the side, filled with various tools. Luo Qianqian dared not look at the two men, focusing only on the contents of the bag. Whatever Qin Liang asked for, she just handed it over without looking.

”Alcohol,” Qin Liang said softly.

Luo Qianqian hurriedly passed it over.

”Knife.” Luo Qianqian handed over the dagger.

Qin Liang was taken aback for a moment, ”Scalpel.”

She quickly replaced the dagger with a scalpel from a sterile bag.

”Tweezers.”

”Needle.”

”And the thread??? The thread comes with the needle, isn’t that obvious?”

Luo Qianqian quickly threaded the needle and handed it over.

”Alcohol.”

”Gauze.”

”Big Sister, this is a cotton ball.”

”Pack up everything; come to the office tomorrow and clean these up,” Qin Liang said, looking at Luo Qianqian who dared not raise her head.

Luo Qianqian nodded, head still lowered.

”Can you walk?” Qin Liang helped Bai Yixian to his feet. ”Where were you planning to go?”

”There’s a place to stay in town,” Bai Yixian said through clenched teeth. After receiving an anesthetic shot, you’re supposed to wait a while before surgery to let the medicine take effect, but now I’ve already lost all sensation.

”No one’s here to send you back now, I mean are you planning to camp out here or come back with us?” Qin Liang asked coldly, watching as Luo Qianqian shouldered his pack and nodded in satisfaction.

”Come back with us,” Luo Qianqian said hastily. It’s freezing here, and Luo Qianqian, who no longer had her military coat, already felt very cold.

”Bring your beef jerky here.” Since he was worried Bai Yixian would get cold, Luo Qianqian had already unpacked her things before Qin Liang arrived, and the beef jerky had been forgotten, lying forlorn on the ground.

Luo Qianqian was startled, quickly picked it up, and handed it to Qin Liang.

Qin Liang tore open the package and threw it into Bai Yixian’s mouth, ”Chew on this.”

Both Bai Yixian and Luo Qianqian were taken aback.

”Pack up and follow me.” Glancing at Luo Qianqian’s dreadful way of folding the blanket, Qin Liang looked away.

Luo Qianqian didn’t follow them for long before she saw Zhang Jin, and then Qin Liang left her behind, ostensibly to complete training, taking Bai Yixian with him.

The next day, when she went to the office to return the backpack and clean the tools, Bai Yixian was no longer there.
