Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Chapter 311: Chapter 293: Injured Acquaintance

”So what should we do now?” Luo Qianqian looked around in bewilderment. Hidden by the trees, it was unclear whether there were any people around, friend or foe. ”Could it be, we settle this one-on-one? Rock, paper, scissors to decide the winner?”

Zhang Jin stumbled at his feet, realizing he had made a mistake. He had never expected the Boss to do this, without any additional instructions, thinking that running ten kilometers would suffice. Now he couldn’t go out and explain to this confused child.

Fortunately, this area was toward the rear, and no one came over; it seemed he might be able to muddle through to the end. Zhang Jin silently pressed his hands together in prayer.

”Don’t be foolish, everyone has run off,” Wei Guang said as he looked at Luo Qianqian, who was already crouching and running forward, speechless. She dashed forward without knowing what to do, and getting caught would be a lesson for her.

”Next time the Boss does something, I’ll think more about it,” Zhang Jin rolled his eyes and didn’t follow. Now, finding the second row’s flag was the priority.

This decision led to Luo Qianqian running further and further off the beaten path.

”Is there anybody out there...” Luo Qianqian’s face was downcast. Someone, please come and save her, alright? It was cold and there was no one around; she felt like cannon fodder in a tomb-raiding novel. At any moment, a rice dumpling monster would pop out, and she had no donkey hooves or sticky rice to defend herself, only able to watch helplessly as she was bitten to death. Then, a Taoist would arrive too late, only to sigh regretfully and perform her last rites.

”Dear ghost grandpas, ghost masters, ghost grandmas, dumpling brothers, dumpling sisters, Mr. Skeleton, Ms. Skeleton, resentful spirits and evil ghosts, I have a newly married mother above, a missing brother below, and unfulfilled wishes. I beg you not to turn me into your food, please spare me...” Luo Qianqian muttered under her breath. The wind howled chillingly, and she quickly pulled her collar tighter. ”I have a feeling I’m going in the wrong direction...”

Yes, you are going in the wrong direction, so why do you keep walking?

”Luo Qianqian.” The voice was almost inaudible, yet Luo Qianqian heard it and turned around with a shocked face, scanning the surroundings.

”Who?” Luo Qianqian asked, her upper and lower teeth chattering. ”Every debt has its debtor, every wrong its doer. Why would you come after me if I’ve done nothing wrong?”

”Move back,” the voice instructed.

Luo Qianqian frowned, could this be the legendary great opportunity? To obtain Heavenly Materials and Earthly Treasures?

But, driven by curiosity, fear, and hope, she slowly walked backward until she saw a pair of blood-red eyes behind a tree.

”Ahhh!!!” Luo Qianqian promptly sat down on the ground.

”Stop screaming,” the man bit down on his teeth harshly. ”Be quiet, or you’ll attract attention.”

The voice sounded somewhat familiar. Luo Qianqian furrowed her brow and peered toward the person sitting against the tree on the ground.

”Bai Yixian?” Luo Qianqian was stunned. ”How come you’re here?” She quickly moved closer, scrutinizing the person she hadn’t seen for a long time.

Bai Yixian was not in good condition, evident from the bloodstains on his hands. As Luo Qianqian drew near, she detected a strong smell of blood and wrinkled her nose. ”What happened?”

Bai Yixian shook his head, not offering an answer. ”How come you are here?” When he first saw the small figure passing by him, he instinctively hid. But hearing the familiar, incessant chattering, he called out the name purely by guesswork, not expecting it really to be her. He was startled, so much so that he momentarily forgot the pain from his wound.

Luo Qianqian took out her tiny flashlight and examined Bai Yixian’s wound closely, but Bai Yixian snatched the flashlight away. ”We can’t use this here; it will draw attention.” In the pitch-black night, devoid of people, the sudden appearance of a light would surely catch the eye.

Luo Qianqian frowned, ”Is that a gunshot wound?”

Bai Yixian paused, still not speaking.

Luo Qianqian pouted, ”Does Zhuzi know how dangerous it is for you to be here?”

Bai Yixian’s eyes dimmed, ”Does Luo Shufan know you’re here?”

Luo Qianqian was startled and smiled bitterly, shaking her head, ”You don’t know yet, my brother has gone missing.”

Bai Yixian looked shocked, ”What happened?”

Luo Qianqian quietly sat opposite Bai Yixian and recounted everything that had happened during this period before asking, ”How did you end up here all alone?”

”Having heard about Luo Xiying’s injury, you should know who did it,” Bai Yixian sighed, ”The culprit who did it came over here, and I was hoping to catch the person for your uncle’s revenge, but I ended up getting injured instead.”

”The person who hurt Uncle came over here? When did they come?” Luo Qianqian was startled, feeling a chill in her heart.

”It’s been about ten days,” Bai Yixian said with a bitter smile, ”Am I not very useless?”

”I believe your uncle would rather have you living healthily than avenging his death,” Luo Qianqian pursed her lips and expressed her inner thoughts, ”If you were to sacrifice your life over this, your uncle would blame himself for a lifetime. Don’t let his carefree appearances deceive you; your uncle is someone who cherishes relationships deeply.” Otherwise, why would he have saved her in the first place?

”I know.” Bai Yizhu was stunned for a while, ”But I feel uncomfortable inside.”

”My brother is gone, no, my brother can’t come back for now, and I also feel uncomfortable, so I have to work hard, I have to become better, so that when my brother comes back, he can smile happily, I want to contribute my strength towards rescuing my brother, instead of wallowing in self-pity, lamenting my helplessness. There are too many things we are powerless against, we can’t have everything go our way. If you take care of the small things, they can accumulate to a surprising degree.” Luo Qianqian was silent for a very long time, slowly speaking while looking at the moon, ”I miss my brother so much, but I can’t say it, I’m afraid that after I do, I won’t be able to sustain this strength anymore.” Luo Qianqian wiped her tears, ”I really wish I hadn’t grown up, then my brother would still be by my side, and none of this would have happened.”

Bai Yixian was stunned, the girl wiping tears under the moonlight touched the softness in his heart, ”Qianqian, your brother will come back, I promise.” Ignoring his own injuries, he gently hugged the girl in front of him.

Luo Qianqian looked up and chuckled lightly, ”Of course, my brother is my pride, he won’t be easily defeated.”

”Right, you’re injured, how’s your wound? Should I take you to see a doctor?” Luo Qianqian, smelling the blood, wore a look of discomfort, ”Continuing like this, you’ll lose too much blood.” She said, wiping her tears and standing up, looking at the stars in the sky, discerning the direction.

”No need, we mustn’t draw attention.” Bai Yixian shook his head, he had already taken measures to stop the bleeding, but if he did not remove the bullet soon, he would still lose too much blood and become unconscious. Now he was completely immobile, his only hope was Luo Qianqian.

”Qianqian, help me get the bullet out,” Bai Yixian’s eyes, filled with trust, looked towards Luo Qianqian, who was holding the dagger, her hands trembling.

”I can’t do it...” Luo Qianqian was close to crying, it was dim under the moonlight and she couldn’t see clearly, if she could, she wouldn’t be able to do it, that was human flesh, and also she had no anesthetics or equipment to stitch the wound.

”You have to do it even if you can’t, right now I can’t move, can you find your way back?” Bai Yixian shook his head, realizing very clearly the moment he saw Luo Qianqian, the child was lost.
