Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Chapter 88: Chapter 87: Brother vs. Cousin

Luo Qianqian handed the items to Luo’s Mom and Luo Shufan, and the two of them were stunned, judging by their expressions they probably really liked the gifts. Luo Qianqian could only pretend to be happy and said, ”I wrote some songs for someone, and to thank me, he bought something for each member of our family.”

”Qianqian is really amazing, not forgetting about your brother when good things come your way.” Shufan put on the down jacket with a swagger and said jubilantly, ”When I meet your boss, I’ll definitely thank him properly.”

Soon, Shufan met Luo Yanran. Seeing someone who looked so much like him made Shufan lose all desire to express gratitude.

Once Luo Qianqian and Shufan were on holiday, they told Luo’s Mom they wanted to go to Beijing early to have fun. Luo’s Mom originally planned to accompany them but was refused by Luo Qianqian, who said, ”We are grown up now, you can rest assured. Besides, my boss will arrange for someone to pick us up, there won’t be any problems.” Thus, Luo’s Mom dropped the two off at the airport and was sent back home by her daughter to work.

Upon entering the waiting room, they saw a tall and slim figure with sunglasses and a mask, waving at them.

Luo Qianqian turned around, intending to sit somewhere else, but Shufan happily said to his sister, ”Qianqian, isn’t that your boss over there? He looks really young. Come on, let’s go say hi.” Shufan was enthusiastic because this person was covering all expenses for him and Qianqian: food, drinks, entertainment, accommodation, and travel.

Luo Qianqian looked at her brother and sighed, resignedly following his lead.

”Hello, I am Luo Qianqian’s brother. Thank you for taking care of Qianqian all this time.” Shufan tried to maintain a calm expression, though his heart was nearly pounding out of his chest.

”It’s no trouble because I am as well,” Luo Yanran said as he took off his sunglasses, revealing eyes that looked very much like Shufan’s, and extended his right hand: ”Nice to meet you, I’m Yhan Miyuan.”

Luo Qianqian stared at Luo Yanran, and upon hearing that he was Yhan Miyuan, she breathed a slight sigh of relief. She still nervously watched Luo Yanran.

Luo Yanran found Luo Qianqian’s anxious expression quite amusing. Once in the Capital City, naturally something would happen. Whether you accept it or try to conceal it, it’s bound to occur.

”Have you finished your work?” Are you specifically here to keep an eye on me and my brother going to Capital City? Luo Qianqian’s thoughts were conveyed entirely through her eyes, but with her brother present, she was careful not to appear too rude, lest her brother reprimand her.

”I’m touched that Qianqian cares so much about me,” Luo Yanran said, clearly understanding the meaning behind Luo Qianqian’s eyes. He put on his sunglasses, and Luo Qianqian, not being able to see the tenderness in his eyes, assumed he was just teasing her again and said:

”Don’t mention it, don’t mention it. You’re the boss, after all.” It’s about giving us the benefits we deserve from the company.

Finally on the plane, their seats ended up being next to each other: ”Do you want to switch seats with me?” asked Luo Yanran from his window seat.

”Qianqian, what’s wrong?” Shufan, noticing his sister had closed her eyes and was frowning tightly, grew worried and quickly touched her forehead, asking.

”I’m sleepy. Last night, Mom kept me up with a list of precautions. You got to sleep early.” After saying that, Luo Qianqian waved her hand, closed her eyes, and leaned back to sleep.

Luo Yanran watched Shufan cover his sister with a jacket and smiled softly, whispering, ”You seem to get along well with your sister, huh?”

”Yes, after all, she’s my sister.” Shufan smiled lightly at his sister’s profile and said softly, ”You don’t seem much older than me, but you’re already so famous; it’s really impressive.”

”Haha, you flatter me. I just wanted to join in the fun since it’s something my family does. I’m actually more envious of you.” Luo Yanran looked at his cousin sitting across from Luo Qianqian and said with a light smile, ”I heard your grades have always been good, a role model for your sister.”

”That’s not true, my sister is the impressive one.” Shufan scratched his head sheepishly, looking at his sister and smiling gently: ”Without my sister, I would probably be an unpopular guy with a weird temper, right?” That money-obsessed teacher who let others frame me and that awkward English all changed indirectly because of my sister.” Shufan watched his sister fondly and said, ”Even though she’s still such a kid, the things she does always surprise us.”

”Exactly, what kind of six-year-old writes love songs? Yet even the studio can’t stop praising her.” Luo Yanran remembered those music producers who were too proud to speak to him unless it was for the sake of his father’s reputation. They were all amazed at Luo Qianqian’s talent when they saw her work and called her a creative genius. Thinking about those musical scores without even the symbols for pitch alterations, which he couldn’t understand, he almost couldn’t keep from trembling with mirth.

”Do you feel that way too?” Shufan nodded in agreement and leaned in closer to Luo Yanran, ”Let me tell you, Qianqian used to cling to me crying about being scared of cockroaches and such. Now she doesn’t cry and cling to me when she sees bad people, and she’s no longer cute, acting all grown-up and excelling at everything she does, including her studies, making me feel quite useless.”

”You should be proud to have a sister like that,” Luo Yanran said with a slight smirk, speaking softly, ”After all, having a sister is something many people envy but can’t have. Just like in my family--with so many brothers and no sister.” He added quietly, ”Fortunately, I have no regrets now.”

”Ah, when times are good, they’re really good, but when she’s infuriating, she’s truly infuriating. Let me tell you, this one time...”

Luo Shufan shared with Luo Yanran, in a low voice, the amusing stories about Guanyu and Luo Qianqian. Luo Yanran was full of interest, and Luo Shufan, having someone to listen, became enthusiastic as well.

By the time Luo Qianqian woke up and got off the plane, these two were as close as real brothers. Luo Qianqian sighed internally, after all, they were cousins.

”Qianqian, Big Brother Yhan said he’ll take us to eat Beijing roast duck. Shall we go eat first or head to our accommodations?” Even though Luo Shufan had hit it off with Luo Yanran, he was still more concerned with his sister’s preference, especially since Luo’s Mom had lectured him for quite a while before they left home to take good care of and watch over his sister.

”Whatever, I’m kind of hungry anyway.” Luo Qianqian felt embarrassed seeing Sun Zhichao holding all the luggage, ”Uncle, let me help you with some of that.”

”No need, we can just handle the checked luggage.” Luo Yanran took the bags they were carrying and handed them to them, ”Keep your valuables close.”

”This is so big.” Luo Shufan followed Luo Yanran out of the Capital City Airport, marveling at the bustling traffic.

”This is nothing. Wait until we reach the city center, then you can be astonished,” Luo Yanran said, satisfied watching Luo Shufan’s surprised expression, then turned to see the sister who just glanced around before bowing her head in silence.

”Luo Yanran!” A voice called from not too far away. Luo Yanran felt a chill all over, his hair stood on end, and as he turned his head, his face crumpled,

”Brother...”

”You cheeky brat, quite daring, aren’t you? To sneak off to...” The approaching figure was imposing, the dark skin suggesting a healthy, strong person, who opened his mouth but didn’t speak upon seeing the two following Luo Yanran.

”Brother, these are two friends who came here for the final competition; don’t scare them so much that they can’t perform well!” Luo Yanran quickly interjected to prevent his older brother from revealing too much.

Although Luo Qianqian knew some of the truth, this cousin of hers knew absolutely nothing.

At 16, Luo Yanhao, who had always been at a military school and was known for his straightforward dealings and not the sharpest in turns of mind, wasn’t dull. The way his brother spoke was clearly a hint not to disclose identities so that the two could focus on their exams.

”Your friends, huh? You have such young friends?” Luo Yanhao looked curiously at the two before suddenly picking up Luo Qianqian, remarking, ”So you’re the little music Genius that this rascal was talking about?” He glanced towards his brother and seeing an affirming look, was filled with joy.

Caught off guard by the embrace, Luo Qianqian looked displeased, thinking to herself about the brother’s poor acting skills, then smiled gently and said, ”Big Brother Yhan Miyuan is too kind; I’m not that great.” She made a shy face, that even Luo Shufan, who knew her well, twitched his mouth in disbelief. Was this really his sister, so thick-faced and yet acting shy?

”It’s not flattery, such a cute little sister you are. Let’s go, brother will take you to eat hotpot,” said Luo Yanhao, holding onto Luo Qianqian without letting go, making the decision on his own.

Luo Qianqian’s mouth twitched as she said slowly, ”We just said we’d go for roast duck...”

”Is that so?” He looked towards Luo Yanran and seeing him nod with a sly smile, suggested, ”Then, Miyuan, you go buy a roast duck, and we’ll wait for you at the hotpot restaurant.”

Luo Yanran’s eyes widened as he watched his car being driven away by the person who had brought along Luo Shufan, holding Luo Qianqian; the two he had brought along had completely abandoned him without a second thought.

With tearful eyes, Luo Yanran thought, why does having a younger sibling mean this newly promoted big brother still gets pushed around?!
