Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Chapter 70: Chapter 70: Off to the Provincial City

Luo Qianqian helplessly looked at the group of classmates gathering around her, ”I can go with my brother, so don’t worry. My brother has already spoken with the teacher in charge, and arranged for the two of us to be together.”

”Qianqian, let me go with you, it’s really boring without you at school.” He Wenyu directly hugged Luo Qianqian, ”With you and your brother both gone, who will accompany me to school and wake me up?”

”Is that all I’m worth to you?” Luo Qianqian hooked her index finger, a single-finger Zen scratch made He Wenyu laugh until tears came out.

”Haha... hahaha, I was wrong, hahaha, you’re here... hahaha and also... hahaha can... hahaha... can be hugged and played with... hahaha.”

”Zhuzi will also wait for you every day. Besides, Ye Chen and Zhang Sheng will not stop playing with you, so how could you be bored?” Luo Qianqian stopped scratching, pointing to the tall duo who were leaning over their desk.

”Exactly, Little One doesn’t usually play with you; she just sits quietly on the side. It’s us who play with you, and now you’re actually looking down on us.” Zhang Sheng said, lifting a dainty finger to Ye Chen, ”Official, I’ve been hurt by Xiao Yu, I’ve actually been abandoned and looked down upon.”

”Cough cough...” Ye Chen got teased into blushing unexpectedly, then patted his chest and said in a feigned deep voice, ”My lady, don’t be sad. Don’t stoop to level of such a young girl, after all, you are the adult.”

”Hahaha, you guys are so funny.” Jiang Qian stood in the aisle, laughing so hard that she squatted down beside He Wenyu’s desk, hitting it, ”You should reverse it, right? Ye Chen is so pale, Zhang Sheng is so dark, obviously Ye Chen should be playing the lady.”

”Ye Chen, you better take your lady to see the doctor quickly, so that her broken heart doesn’t turn into heartache, that would be bad.” He Wenyu looked disdainfully at Zhang Sheng and then looked at Luo Qianqian, ”Qianqian, I’m not comfortable with you and the teacher going alone, just take me with you, I can even serve as your pillow.” He Wenyu pitched herself strongly.

”Not to mention whether the teacher would agree, would Mother He agree?” Luo Qianqian looked helplessly at He Wenyu, still worried about whether her mom would want to follow them. She didn’t know how her mom would react if she found out that she and her brother secretly entered the competition without telling her.

”Little One, I’ve arranged everything with Experimental Middle School. We’ll go together. Just stick with your brother, you don’t need to meet me at the school, we’ll meet at the train station.” Geng Zhi popped up from the back door of the classroom, patting Luo Qianqian on the shoulder.

Luo Qianqian’s eyes widened, ”Teacher, how can you, as an example to us, just casually call a student by a nickname? I’m only this tall because I’m young, not because I won’t grow taller in the future.” After protesting the nickname ’Little One,’ she continued, ”So, are we going for a few days? It takes like six or seven hours by train, right?”

”It’s a three-day trip, and I’ve already contacted your mother about it. She knows, so don’t worry,” Geng Zhi said with a smile, but upon seeing his smile, Jiang Qian secretly slipped back to her seat, Ye Chen and Zhang Sheng turned back the normal direction, even He Wenyu sat straight and quietly did her homework.

”Mom knows?” Luo Qianqian was startled, wondering if she would be scolded that night.

”Your mom told me to tell you to come home early after school today,” Geng Zhi smiled and walked out the back door again.

Luo Qianqian tugged on He Wenyu’s sleeve, ”I have a feeling that a storm is coming.”

After school, Luo Shufan and Bai Yizhu waited at the school gate as usual. Luo Shufan was holding a notice and complaining to Luo Qianqian, ”What should we do? The school handed out a notice that needs to be signed by parents. We have to bring it to school tomorrow morning, and if it’s not signed, they won’t let us go to the rematch.”

”Brother, mom already knows...” Luo Qianqian finally understood why Geng Zhi called Luo’s Mom directly – she was the only one in the whole school going, and they didn’t make phone calls for printing the notice.

Luo Shufan was shocked, ”You told her?”

”Our teacher called...” Luo Qianqian flung herself into Luo Shufan’s arms, ”Brother, you have to protect me. I think mom will be angry because we’re going for three days.”

”Called? Qianqian, you’re young; mom won’t scold you. Just hold on, I’ll buy you candy,” Luo Shufan said with a pained expression, ”The notice says four days, and we even get a day off when we return.”

”These are the troubles of a good child, afraid of being scolded for quietly participating in a competition and making it to the rematch,” Bai Yizhu said enviously, looking at the siblings hugging each other.

He Wenyu sighed, looking at the two in front of her, ”I’ll go to your place to do homework later.”

”Xiao Yu, you’re the best!!!” Luo Qianqian, very generously, left the embrace of Luo Shufan and dove into the arms of He Wenyu. Luo’s Mom, even if angry, would keep up appearances in front of others and wouldn’t criticize or educate them publicly.

”Oh, Zhuzi, remember to pick up and drop off Xiao Yu from school every day, okay? And don’t do your homework outside for these next few days,” Luo Shufan also looked at He Wenyu gratefully, then turned to instruct Bai Yizhu.

”Zhuzi, I’ll bring you some local specialties when I come back~” Luo Qianqian also stood properly and looked at Bai Yizhu with her cute and well-behaved manner.

Bai Yizhu looked at the brother and sister, raised an eyebrow, and chuckled, ”Of course, bringing back specialties is a must, right? And escorting a beauty is a gentleman’s basic rule, rest assured.”

”Qianqian, what about mine?” He Wenyu blinked her eyes playfully, afraid that her friend had forgotten her gift.

Luo Qianqian laughed and pinched He Wenyu’s cheek, ”If I forgot yours, you’d definitely fall out with me, wouldn’t you? Hurry home.”

”I really don’t want to go home...” Luo Shufan sighed, ”I just hope mom won’t lock me in the bathroom and give me a beating.”

”You’re being irresponsible with your words. When did mom ever lock you in the bathroom or beat you?” Luo Qianqian said sullenly, ”I’m afraid mom will be upset and won’t talk to me.”

”This time it’s different, you participated too. Mom might think I instigated it! I make her worried just going with the school, let alone bringing you along... Oh, my...” Luo Shufan held his head while walking and lamented, ”I feel like I’m going to have a terrible end.”

”Zhuzi, do you want to have dinner at my place today?” Luo Shufan asked his buddy, ”We usually eat at the bakery, but come over to my house today.”

”Exactly, exactly, although it’s just some simple food, come and eat with us,” Luo Qianqian, understanding her brother’s reluctance to face their mother, also eagerly invited.

Unexpectedly, Bai Yizhu, who usually wasn’t busy, shook his head and said, ”I have something on today, sorry, next time.”

After saying goodbye to Bai Yizhu at the crossing, the three of them trudged into the residential complex, up the stairs, only to find, to their surprise, the He Family’s door wide open. They curiously entered the house and were stunned for a moment.

On the large round table were plates and plates of delicious food, and several colored balloons floated on the ceiling. Luo’s Mom and Mother He were bustling in and out of the kitchen, while He’s father was making the dishes on the table even more compact. When he looked up and saw the three children frozen in place, he hurriedly called out:

”The kids are home!” Luo’s Mom and Mother He came out with dishes, all smiles.

Luo Qianqian and Luo Shufan were a bit confused. Shouldn’t their mom be angry for not telling her about participating in the competition? What was going on now?

”Mom, whose birthday is it today?” He Wenyu, her eyes shining, pointed at the fruit cake in Mother He’s hands and asked.

Mother He placed the cake in the center of the round table and gave He Wenyu a glare, ”Whose birthday? It’s Qianqian’s and Shufan’s advancement to the next round that we’re celebrating.”

”Mom, aren’t you angry?” Luo Qianqian tiptoed cautiously to Luo’s Mom, clutching the hem of her mother’s clothes like a frightened rabbit as she looked at Luo’s Mom.

Luo’s Mom casually stuffed a piece of fried squid ring into Luo Qianqian’s mouth, ”Of course I’m angry. You didn’t even tell me about the competition, I could have gone to cheer for you. It was only after the teacher informed me about the provincial competition that I found out. I didn’t know my own children were competing. But, considering you performed well, I won’t be too hard on you.”

Chewing on the squid ring in her mouth, Luo Qianqian’s face showed a guilty expression of a cat that had stolen a bite, ”I knew mom was the best. So, you must also agree with me going with brother, right?” she said, signaling her brother with her eyes.

Receiving his sister’s gaze, Luo Shufan hurriedly handed the notice to their mother, ”Mom, this needs to be signed.”

”Let’s talk after dinner, let’s eat first,” said Luo’s Mom, looking at her greasy hand and not taking the notice from Luo Shufan’s hand. Seeing the look of disappointment on Luo Shufan’s face, she added, ”Or shall I just stamp it with this greasy hand?” and made a move to take the form.

Luo Shufan smiled awkwardly and stuffed the notice back into his backpack.
