Rebirth: A Cinderella's Counterattack

Chapter 69: Chapter 69: Unavoidable Trouble

The red Patchwork Bear craze swept through Class One, and even through the entire grade and school. Jiang Qian was constantly stopped and asked where she bought it. Since Luo Qianqian and He Wenyu had given out the bear for free, thinking of pulling in some customers to make some money, Jiang Qian didn’t hesitate to mention Luo Qianqian and He Wenyu. But watching classmates from other classes continuously surround Luo Qianqian’s desk, with one of them bent over taking notes and the other asking for names, classes, and preferences.

”Qianqian, Xiao Yu, sorry about this, it seems like I’ve caused you trouble,” Jiang Qian said somewhat apologetically as she approached their desk after the warning bell had rung and things had quieted down.

Luo Qianqian shook her head, pulling out a yogurt-flavored lollipop from her bag: ”Here, consider it your advertising fee, don’t complain it’s too little.”

”There’s even an advertising fee huh, oh this candy? I’ve eaten it at home too.” Jiang Qian took the lollipop and smiled, returning to her seat as the teacher entered the classroom.

”Is there a discount for classmates?” Ye Chen asked while looking at the red Little Bear tied to He Wenyu’s backpack, ”I have a sister whose birthday is coming up.”

”A discount? Do you want a bone fracture?” Luo Qianqian teased with squinted eyes. She didn’t dare speak about offering a discount, or else wouldn’t she lose a lot by helping other classes? ”But we can do a special order, with initials, birthday dates and such. You can also choose the color and even add a little crown or whatever.”

”Really violent, then just the initials. I’ll write it for you. For the color, I want something flashy; she likes those kinds of colors,” Ye Chen said, taking Luo Qianqian’s pen to jot down his request in the notebook.

Flashy? What kind of description is that, it’s Patchwork we’re talking about here, this pattern on a dress is called Bohemian style, okay? Luo Qianqian couldn’t help but inwardly complain, though she kept smiling on the outside.

”Is your family into tailoring?” Zhang Sheng also turned around to join the buzz, ”Then make one for me too, I want a black one, to match my temperament.”

”This is called tailoring? Don’t you think ’vendor’ is more fitting?” Luo Qianqian joked self-deprecatingly, ”We are the type that never soils our hands with spring water, let alone a needle, I don’t even touch knives.”

”That’s because you’re a kitchen nightmare; your family doesn’t let you in the kitchen,” He Wenyu butted in, exposing Luo Qianqian’s self-pride.

”Oh oh, Old Niu is here.” Geng Zhi, nicknamed Old Niu, was as stubborn as an ox and wouldn’t change his mind once he made a decision.

”Before class starts today, I have a piece of good news to announce. Luo Qianqian, congratulations, you’ve made it into the math competition semifinals. The only one from our school. Let’s all give her a round of applause,” Geng Zhi said, smiling at Luo Qianqian who was busy conducting business.

Uh uh uh... Luo Qianqian felt it wasn’t exactly enjoyable having everyone turn to look at her, her twenty-something-year-old psychological age couldn’t keep her from blushing instantly. Standing up, she said, ”Thank you, everyone, thank you, Mr. Geng. My achievement is inseparable from the intelligence...” Luo Qianqian paused, almost blurting out the truth, her face reddening, ”from the guidance of our teachers.”

”It’s not that competition, is it...” Just as Luo Qianqian sat down, Zhang Sheng started a hushed conversation with her, using a book to cover his face as if hiding his words.

Luo Qianqian, busy with calculating the inventory at her godmother’s house and the orders for the day, had no time to entertain him while He Wenyu joined in:

”What else is there lately but one competition? Old Niu is just using the extra competitions for fourth grade as bait to tempt Qianqian into skipping a grade.”

Zhang Sheng turned back to Luo Qianqian in disbelief, ”Just to enter a competition? Are you crazy?”

”That’s beyond your world, don’t marvel at it, Old Niu has been looking at you for quite a while,” Ye Chen said.

Under Geng Zhi’s gaze, Zhang Sheng put away his surprise and longing, turned around, and assumed an earnest and studious appearance.

”See, it’s not just me who thinks you’re off, wanting to skip a grade for an exam,” He Wenyu whispered to Luo Qianqian, leaning over the desk.

Luo Qianqian rolled her eyes, ”Not using your talents just makes you a fool, why wait until you can’t understand to boast about how great you were in the past? We’re still young, not yet at the age of reminiscing.”

”Back in the day, I was half a head taller than you, hehe, and now that you’ve grown, I’m still half a head taller,” He Wenyu boasted with a laugh.

And you’ll still be taller than me in the future. Luo Qianqian smiled, ”I will grow taller, and when I’m taller than you, you’ll have to call me sister.”

”Hey, you don’t call me sister, why should I call you huh?” The two spent the entire class time arguing about who should be calling whom sister while the two in front just didn’t want to make any more sarcastic comments about these two silly kids.

”Luo Qianqian, come out here!” Not long after class ended, Class One’s classroom was disturbed by a crisp voice.

Luo Qianqian frowned and stood up, saw the familiar figure at the door, and sat back down pretending she hadn’t seen.

”Being from a different class and still able to find this place, pretty impressive,” He Wenyu commented as he looked toward the familiar figure following the sound.

”I just want Jingjing, the peaceful and quiet Jingjing,” Luo Qianqian pouted and looked at He Wenyu sadly, and He Wenyu patted her head as if consoling a puppy.

”Didn’t you hear me calling you?” The girl came in anyway, smacking the desk in front of Luo Qianqian, loud enough to draw the attention of the entire Fourth Year Class One.

”I heard you, but just because you call me, do I have to respond?” Luo Qianqian buried her head in He Wenyu’s embrace and rubbed against him, ”The dog downstairs barks at me all the time too, but if he doesn’t say why, how would I know if he’s hungry or thirsty? So why should I bother, it’s a waste of time.”

”As long as you heard me, that’s all that matters. Give me ten of those bears, one of each color,” Zhang Jingjing said as she slapped a fifty-yuan note on the table.

Luo Qianqian poked half her head out from He Wenyu’s embrace, glanced at the money on the table, and said, ”For the good-looking, it’s four yuan each, but for you? Ten yuan.”

”Tsk~” He Wenyu almost forgot about Luo Qianqian’s bizarre pricing policy which, because they started selling in the park for a uniform price of four yuan each, had slipped his mind.

”How beautiful do I have to be...” Jiang Qian was staring at the Patchwork Bear on the bag, unknown to others, but she knew that bear was exchanged for two lollipops and the cost of a two-cent phone call.

”You! On what grounds?!” Zhang Jingjing was furious at Luo Qianqian’s remarks.

”A willing buyer is hard to find, and if I don’t feel like selling to you, what can you do? Either you don’t buy, nobody’s forcing you,” Luo Qianqian hummed smugly, continuing to lie in He Wenyu’s arms while enjoying the dog-like petting.

”You! Hmph, I’ll go tell the teacher you’re selling things at school!” Zhang Jingjing, out of anger, grabbed her money and stormed off.

Whatever, the school rules don’t say it’s not allowed. Luo Qianqian stuck out her tongue toward the direction of the departing Zhang Jingjing, ”Nyah nyah nyah.”

”You’d actually forego making money just to upset her, huh? That’s not like you,” He Wenyu knew his friend’s personality very well–money was everything to her.

”If I sold it to her, she’d just find more faults, so why would I humiliate myself?” Luo Qianqian continued letting He Wenyu stroke her head with that smug attitude.

Zhang Sheng and Ye Chen looked at Luo Qianqian with surprise, ”Wow, insulting someone without using a single curse word, impressive.”

”You insulted someone?” He Wenyu looked at Luo Qianqian with a puzzled face.

”Of course not, I’m a good kid.” Luo Qianqian certainly wouldn’t explain it to her, otherwise, she’d learn and play the insult game, and it would be her fault if she got caught and beaten up.
