The Adventures of an Overpowered Knight in Another World

Chapter 176: Chapter 176- The Spy and the Night of Punishment (2)

”Ung... sniff... sniff” She cried.

”Are you not going to report it to your father?”

At this moment, a voice suddenly sounded out in her room. Melissa’s eyes, that was red from tears, suddenly opened wide. A voice that shouldn’t be able to move, much less be here, actually sounded from behind her.

Turning around, she saw that it was actually the Divine Paladin, walking and standing in front of her, perfectly fine.

”You!! How? You should be...” before she could complete her sentence, Reinhardt completed it for her.

”I should be sprawled on the sofa in a daze, right?”

Melissa suddenly panicked; the other party knew that she had drugged their drink. Immediately, her eyes widened, and she lost all strength in her body, flopping down on the ground.

Just as her head was about to hit the floor, Reinhardt caught her.

”Why?” Her beautiful eyes stared at him, her voice barely a mutter, ”My drug should have taken effect. Earlier too, your body became completely sluggish and you were at the mercy of your passion”.

”Ah, that, I was simply acting.” Not all of it was an act, but he cannot say this.

”As for your drug, if it could affect even the body of a level 10 hero, then I would be dead long ago. The enemies I face, the force of darkness, the high ranking demon, and the Twelve Heavenly Kings who lead them, they are not so forgiving”.

If a drug worked against the body of a Level 10 knight, the pinnacle defenders of the realm, then humanity would have perished long ago.

Of course, Reinhardt had his Divine Traits with him. However, even without it, her drug would manage to do nothing to his body. Her plan was sloppy from the start. It was all an act, all a script.

That said, what was not in the script was her breaking down crying and not reporting the content of the scroll to her backer.

”I have answered your question. Now it’s time you answered mine. You had the perfect opportunity and all the reasons to relay the contents of the scroll. So why didn’t you do it?”

Melissa shifted her eyes away, refusing to say anything. Her current attitude was like she was ready to accept any fate that would befall her.

”Here, isn’t this the device that allows you to transmit your voice to the other end? Go ahead, report it”.

She looked at him with those big, teary eyes of hers. Nevertheless, no matter how much time passed, she did not do it.

”If I report the contents of the scroll to my father, he would try to sabotage your mission and hurt you.”

Finally, after a while, she managed to form some words with that weak voice of hers.

”I don’t want you to get hurt... sniff... snif” Tears began welling up in her eyes again, appearing extremely delicate.

So that was the case. The woman couldn’t do it because she started developing feelings for him.

Seeing her current condition, Reinhardt sighed. This woman, she was not cut out to be a spy, which meant that she was only doing it out of coercion or necessity. Most probably, it was an order from her father that she could not reject, and so she came here with half baked resolve.

That said, this would have been a lot easier to clean up had she steeled her heart and betrayed him. However, she had displayed her unexpected loyalty when he made himself look completely defenceless.

A trait that was her saving grace.

As disposed as he was against his enemies, Reinhardt felt that this woman should be given a last chance.

”Very well, I understand your feelings now. However, if you want to continue being by my side, you must swear your absolute loyalty to me”.

Melissa looked at him absentmindedly. Even after what she tried to do to him, he was forgiving her?

Scenes from their normal days in that office flashed in her mind. To her who always tried to be perfect in everything she did to live up to her father, those words were like a key to the shackles binding her.

She was the most free and most herself when she was here with him. If it could be allowed, she still wanted to stay by his side.

”Un” Tears streaked down her face like a stream ”I’ll never betray you again”.

”Very good. However, you must know one thing. There won’t be a second chance.” Reinhardt’s was chillingly cold, driving it into her that his earlier behaviour in that room was all an act.

”Additionally, I want you to do something for me”.

Forgive? He was not such a nice person. Since she had completely fallen head over heels, he was going to use her like how she wanted to use him.

.

.

The communication device was activated, and a voice came from the other end.

”Report, my daughter. What did you find about the Divine Paladin?”

Melissa, with Reinhardt by her side, started her report just like usual. However, this time, the person she was reporting on was right by her side.

”Hoh, a red and gold scroll from Her Majesty, you say? Did you find out about the contents of that scroll?”

She relayed to him everything. After a while...

”Excellent. This is exactly the kind of information that I want. You have made me proud. Continue working hard like this for me. Let me know what decision he makes”.

”Yes.” The communication ended there, short and precise.

”Heh, is that guy really your father? His voice came off quite cold and calculative. It did not look like the conversation of a father and her daughter.”

Just like he said, their conversation was usually like this, formal and distant.

”Very good, from now on, keep on reporting what I want you to. You can do this for me, right?” Reinhardt grabbed her by the waist and pulled her closer.

”Yes,” The latter lowered her head and nodded in embarrassment. From the conversation earlier, he understood what she sought the most. Intimacy and love.
