The Adventures of an Overpowered Knight in Another World

Chapter 156: Chapter 156- The Changing City

Melissa was the one who went through all those documents after all, and was far more clear on what kind of state the city was in.

Nevertheless, even if it was beyond saving, Reinahrdt had to do something. He was not only the governor of this city, but also a knight sworn to protect the people of the kingdom. If he turned his eyes away from these people, it would run against his chivalric code.

”Is there nothing that can be done?” Reinhardt asked. Even today, his order went on to do community service, healing, and providing clean clothes and food for the outer district people.

”Difficult, but something can be done if we confiscate all the illegal wealth these central people have amassed. However, even then... the disparity in wealth is extremely big. Everything, and I mean everything to their very last penny, was exploited and snatched away from the people of the outer district for so long that poverty has become something that they have come to accept without questioning”...

”Do you even know how hard it would be to change that? It would take years, decades even, to uplift and bring the status up of the outer district people,” Melissa surmised.

Hearing her reply, Reinhardt’s eyes visibly brightened up.

”Wait, so what you are saying is that something can be done as long as we have enough money?”

He recalled the mountain of treasure Baron Chetak had amassed in his secret underground basement. ”That’s right. However, as I told you, even if we confiscate the illegal wealth of the people of the central district, it is still questionable... ehh.. wh-what are you doing?”

Before Melissa could complete her sentence, her hand was suddenly grabbed and pulled along by the governor, who seemed to be in a hurry to go somewhere.

”Huff... Huff... W-wait a minute, my Lord. Huff...I cannot run anymore.”

After a while, Melissa stopped on the path, gasping for breath. Her voluminous chest which made a nice shape thanks to the suit, rose up and down, along with traces of sweat sliding down through her cleavage.

Reinahrdt turned around, grabbed the woman in a princess carry, and jumped. Before the latter could even question his choice of action, she screamed out at the sight of her body flying in the air several dozen meters up.

Wind brushed past her body, and the fear of heights caused her body to go soft. Instinctively, she grabbed tightly onto the man, pressing her well developed body against his.

While controlling his strength so as not to damage the roads, Reinhardt continued to jump through the sky, reaching the mansion in just over a minute.

Having arrived at their destination, he put the woman down. However, it appeared that her legs had turned into jelly from fear, and she couldn’t muster any strength. As such, he had to princess carry her all the way to his office.

The maids and the knights who saw them like this gave them strange eyes and started gossiping among themselves. This only caused Melissa’s embarrassment to heighten.

Just what was it? What did the governor want to show her this badly that he had to create such a spectacle? She surmised that they would be the topic of their gossip for the upcoming days.

”Come with me,” Saying that excitedly, Reinhardt pushed one of the crystal lamps near the fireplace down. Immediately, it started moving, and a secret passage appeared in front of her.

”A secret corridor?!”

Melissa was astonished that she was working here this whole time and never realised there was such a thing in this room. The secret passage was extremely well hidden.

Reinhardt led her down to the underground chamber. When Melissa arrived at the place that the governor wanted to show her, and she laid her eyes on the thing inside, her eyes almost popped out of her sockets.

A small mountain of gold, treasures, and jewelry, the underground chamber was completely filled with it. There was so much wealth here that it would manage to shock anyone.

”T-This... how...” For the first time in her life, the woman was finding it difficult to phrase her words. She felt like she was seeing a surreal dream.

”This is all the riches Baron Chetak amassed after exploiting and squeezing all of his populace,” Reinhardt explained.

Then he pointed at the mountain of gold and asked, ”Will this much be enough?”.

If there is one thing that he did not lack right now, that would be money.

Enough? Melissa wanted to say that it would be more than enough, and even after that, they would still have a large pile of money remaining. However, her professional side stopped her from acting so inappropriately.

Returning to her composed state, she spoke, ”Yes, it will be more than enough to change the city. I think I will have to retract my statement from before. The Snowpoint City will change from this as per your wishes, Lord Reinhardt”.

That was all he wanted. Finally, it seemed as if a heavy burden was lifted off his shoulders. Now he can focus on things like training his knights, or maybe just not yet.

After coming back to the office, the new governor of the city and his assistant worked out on a number of strategies and reforms till late at night.

From the next day on, the order set out to execute all of this; their days were busy and fruitful. To get things going more smoothly, the help he asked from his father on that letter also arrived.

Merchants hauling cargoes full of food and other basic provisions arrived. Not only that, skilled masons and craftsmen looking for new opportunities, rode on the bandwagon and came to the city.

Inside his office, Reinhardt was currently in the middle of a discussion with a batch of people when the door was knocked and Melissa walked in.

”My lord, the merchants and skilled workers of the central district want to see you?”

”Them? What else do they want to discuss with me at this point?”
