King of the Wilderness

Chapter 349: Chapter 216: An Unexpected Surprise! (Ten Thousand Words, Two Chapters in One)

These data, for us, possess immeasurable value; they will become a unique record.

Mark also told me that your program will be broadcasted more widely, which means you will soon become a kind of star!

Don’t mess it up, ”Mr. Profound Review,” I’ll be watching.

Since you can understand my code and logs, I trust you’ll grasp the weight of the proposal I am about to make.

Our institute has always been looking for individuals with outstanding field survival skills, strong mental resilience, and a reverence and empathy for wild animals.

To be honest, we have found many with the former, but few who possess the latter, and can also quote George Orwell. You’re like... a rare hybrid, a savage scholar, or a civilized beast? Forgive my poor choice of words.

If you can excellently complete the data recording task this time, proving to us your meticulousness and reliability.

I hereby, in the capacity of the Arctic Ecology Research Institute’s responsible authority, extend an informal invitation: we are willing to appoint you as the ’Special Invited Consultant for Polar Projects’ after the conclusion of this challenge.

This means, in the future, you will have the opportunity to deeply engage in rescue, rehabilitation, and even wilderness training stages of more polar bear orphans.

It also means you will have many opportunities to be involved in the growth of this little polar bear, and have a coffee with me and JC, continuing the conversations we haven’t finished today.

Please seriously consider my proposal, now everything depends on your performance going forward.

I look forward to reconnecting with you, the healthy little bear, and my precious materials in ten days.

Wishing you success.

(PS: J.C is doing well, complaining about the laboratory coffee. I haven’t shown your letter to him; it’s our little secret.)

——Max”

Lin Yu’an held the letter paper, his breathing becoming somewhat rapid; this is no longer just a simple official letter or thank-you note.

The style of the letter completely matched the unyielding, resilient, and humorous image he glimpsed from the logs.

The undisguised curiosity and admiration in the letter made him feel like he was no longer a passive rescuer but a recognized equal conversational partner.

But these were not the true reasons that made his heart race.

What truly made his blood start to boil was the heavy promise in the letter appointing him as the special invited consultant for the Polar Projects, giving him the opportunity to deeply participate in the planning and training of the little polar bear.

This promise instantly struck the most contradictory part of his heart.

After a day of companionship, an unavoidable thought frequently hovered in his mind that in more than ten days, he would have to forever separate from this little life he personally saved.

He was merely a passerby, a temporary ferryman, and whenever he saw December increasingly rely on him, this impending separation felt like a hidden pain, leaving him both comforted and melancholy.

But now, Max’s letter has completely changed this inevitable ”endpoint”! The invitation as a special consultant means his interaction with December won’t abruptly stop in ten days!

He will have the opportunity to witness its growth with a more professional identity, seeing it gradually recover from a dependent cub, undergoing wilderness training, and even... witness it returning to the true ice fields someday!

This is no longer a regretful goodbye but a hopeful beginning!

A great indescribable excitement and motivation instantly filled his entire being! This excites him more than winning any challenge prize!

The electronic recorder in his hand records not merely dull numbers, but his ”ticket” to December’s future! It is the sole credential for winning this consultant position!

Lin Yu’an carefully tucked the letter along with official documents close to his body.

Then he picked up December, which had been somewhat nervous seeing unfamiliar large objects, and tightly rubbed its furry little head with his cheek.

His gaze became more resolute and bright than ever before.

”Did you hear that, December?” His voice carried a slight tremble and joy that was hard to suppress.

”We won’t be separated! Or rather, even if we are, I can always watch you grow up! I promise you!”

The little fellow seemed to sense the strong positive energy in his emotions, and instead of being nervous, it stuck out its small tongue to lick his chin.

”Alright, we need to perform well together!”

Lin Yu’an looked into its eyes, speaking solemnly word by word: ”From today, you’re not just a legally recognized bear, but a very important ’research project,’ and I will be your best ’special invited consultant’!”

The rising sun finally broke free from the horizon’s constraints, spreading golden rays over this ice-sealed ground.

With these ”professional equipment,” this ”legal license,” and the promise allowing him to continue safeguarding December’s future.

Lin Yu’an has absolute confidence in ensuring that this little fellow will meet its destined savior—Dr. MacKeez with the most healthy and strong state.

The next ten days will not be a countdown to separation but a brand new, challenging, responsible, and infinitely hopeful guardianship journey.
