King of the Wilderness

Chapter 327: Chapter 211: Confit Technique (Part 4)

It seeped from the myoglobin of the wolf meat, carrying a strong metallic odor reminiscent of raw iron and animal liver, mixed with a hint of damp, stuffy fur musk.

The combination of these two scents formed a unique aroma that was both mouthwatering and instinctively repelling.

When he felt the time was right, after completing the final heating cycle, he lifted a piece of confit wolf meat from the pot with his fork.

The surface of the meat displayed an alluring brown color, but was not burnt.

With just a gentle press of the wooden fork’s edge, the entire piece of meat broke apart easily along the muscle fibers, revealing the still moist flesh inside.

”It seems the physical effect of the confit method is perfect.” He demonstrated the tender meat to the camera.

”It successfully decomposed the connective tissues. But as for the taste, that’s another matter.”

Lin Yu’an hesitated for a moment, then placed a small, piping hot piece into his mouth. He didn’t chew immediately, but closed his eyes, carefully savoring it first.

Unlike a purely olfactory experience, once the food entered the mouth and both the taste buds and retronasal sense of smell were activated, the wild flavor masked by the roasted aroma exploded intensely.

First was the texture; the meat was indeed as tender as expected, but following closely was the impact on his taste...

The intense metallic tang and persistent musk swept through his entire mouth like a storm.

Far from neutralizing it, the Wolf Oil acted like an amplifier, enveloping and amplifying every detail of this ”wild” taste, presenting it fully to his taste buds.

The wild onions and juniper berries he had used earlier, in the face of this powerful complex flavor, were like a lone leaf in a vast ocean.

They only offered a faint fragrance, utterly incapable of neutralizing or enhancing it.

He chewed a few times, then, with a slightly complex expression, said to the camera, ”Honestly, this thing has little to do with being delicious, and it’s quite different from what you’d expect food to taste like.”

”If you close your eyes and only focus on the texture, it’s top-notch. But the taste... it’s extremely challenging.”

”The rich, roasted fat urges you to take another bite, yet the following musk makes you want to spit it out involuntarily.”

”It’s not tasty, but it’s undeniably full of energy.”

Expressionless, he tore off another large piece of the tender wolf meat and placed it in his mouth again.

It was as if he was executing a mechanical task, forcing himself to ignore the resistance from his taste buds, quickly chewing and swallowing.

During the high-intensity tracking and fight that had just ended, he burned through at least several thousand calories, so he had to force himself to replenish this energy.

Piece by piece, he kept putting these ”Energy Blocks” into his body.

When he had eaten about half, estimating roughly 200 grams of wolf meat, his chewing speed noticeably slowed.

A feeling of fullness, mixed with fat and intense musk, began to swell from his stomach upward.

Lin Yu’an stopped, placed the remaining meat back into the pot, then took the mineral water bottle and gulped down several swigs to suppress the nausea threatening to rise to his throat.

Leaning against the wall, he let out a long sigh, his complexion somewhat pale, ”Tonight’s dinner must end now.”

”If I eat one more bite, my stomach might just throw it all up, making it all for nothing. The taste... is truly indescribable...”

After finishing a high-calorie wolf meat dinner and preliminarily processing all the spoils, Lin Yu’an felt a bit drowsy.

He stoked the fire in the hearth and then crawled into the warm sleeping bag.

However, he did not sleep soundly through the night.

So, I will continue to provide detailed descriptions in future Chapters; readers who don’t enjoy this style are encouraged to adjust their expectations.)
