King of the Wilderness

Chapter 338: Chapter 214: A Warm and Cozy Bear Afternoon (Part 2)

The nutritional composition is too simple, and the vitamin A content in wolf liver is always a potential risk. He needs a more stable and scientific formula.

A thought suddenly entered his mind.

He turned off the GoPro, walked to the deepest part of the shelter, and took out a metal milk powder can with a cute baby image from the Golden Finger Space, which he had reserved for An’an and woodland.

He opened the milk powder can, and a familiar, milky sweet aroma hit him. Using the small spoon that came with it, he scooped a few spoonfuls of milk powder into a birch bark bowl.

But he didn’t add hot water immediately. This is human baby formula, containing scientifically balanced vitamins and minerals like calcium, iron, and zinc. Using it as a base ensures that the cub’s nutrition is more comprehensive.

Here’s a key issue: after mixing, the milk powder’s fat content is only 3%-5%, while polar bear milk fat content is over 30%. If only this is used to feed it, the calories will fall far short of the needs to maintain body temperature in the extremely cold environment.

Lin Yu’an took the wolf oil, solidified into a white paste from yesterday’s refining, dug out a large piece, placed it in an iron pot, and slowly melted it over a low fire. He then poured in some fish oil as well.

Wolf oil provides saturated fatty acids, fish oil supplies unsaturated fatty acids, especially Omega-3. Using them together can maximize the simulation of the complex fatty acid composition in natural mother’s milk.

As Lin Yu’an focused on preparing this special ”baby meal,” the little bear seemed to be a bit impatient. It rubbed its head gently against Lin Yu’an’s pant leg, making ”um um” sounds with a hint of whining.

Lin Yu’an’s hands didn’t stop moving, but he lowered his head to glance at this clingy little guy, a look of helplessness and indulgence on his face.

He gently comforted, ”Don’t rush, it will be ready soon. Constantly calling you ’little guy’ isn’t going to work either, I need to give you a name.”

After a moment of contemplation, his gaze moved between the flickering flame and the ball of snow-white curled up at his feet.

”When we met, it was December.”

He slowly spoke, as though talking to the little bear, or perhaps to himself, ”You passed the toughest hurdle in this month. ’December,’ this name is both your commemoration and your medal.”

”From today, let’s call you ’December.’ I hope you can be like this month, although in the extreme cold, always nurturing the hope of new beginnings.”

The little bear didn’t seem to understand the deep meaning of these words, but it could feel the gentleness in Lin Yu’an’s tone.

It tilted its little head, extended its pink tongue, and licked Lin Yu’an’s finger, as if accepting this new name that belonged to it.

”Alright, December, your lunch is almost ready.”

Finally, when the two oils were mixed evenly and cooled to the appropriate temperature, he began the last and most crucial blending.

First, he used warm water to dissolve the milk powder, stirring it into a bowl of standard milk mixture. Then, he slowly poured a large amount of warm mixed oils into the milk powder solution, while rapidly stirring it with a wooden stick.

With the addition of oils and continued stirring, the initially thin milk liquid quickly became thick and sticky, changing color from pure white to a milky yellow with an oily sheen.

It smelled both sweet from the milk powder and rich from the animal oils, a strange yet full of life energy scent.

Lin Yu’an placed this bowl of super food in front of it: ”Alright, December, try this one, it should taste better than the morning.”

The little bear seemed to notice a difference too, curiously leaned in, and when that familiar milky scent entered its nostrils, it almost without hesitation, dove into the bowl, making louder ”glug glug” sounds than in the morning.

After eating and drinking enough, December’s energy bar seemed to be instantly filled.

It didn’t lie down and sleep like in the morning, but started a great exploration of the small shelter, like a toy that had just been fully charged.

Its strength recovered extremely well, its movements no longer staggered and weak like in the morning, replaced by the clumsy curiosity unique to cubs.

Lin Yu’an sat on the side, carefully maintaining his Hunting Knife with a sharpening stone, smiling as he watched this little guy entertain itself.

He planned to rest for a while, before setting out with the little bear to check the fishing net, but needed to let it digest the food first, and also observe to ensure there were no adverse reactions after eating the substitute milk.

December first showed a strong interest in the iron pot still emitting residual warmth, cautiously approaching and sniffing around the pot’s edges with its small nose, seemingly relishing the taste from just now.

Then it discovered the pile of firewood stacked in the corner by Lin Yu’an, which became its playground. Using its two front paws, it clumsily tried to climb up the stacked wood, only to slide down again, enjoying itself immensely.

Seeing the little guy’s state so good, Lin Yu’an finally relaxed completely. It seems the new formula is very successful. December’s mental state is excellent, with no signs of indigestion.

”Let’s go, December, we’ll check on my fishing net, which relates to our food supplies for the coming days.”

He stood up, started putting on the thick clothes needed for going out, and December immediately stopped its battle with the firewood, running to his feet with little steps.
