King of the Wilderness

Chapter 348: Chapter 216: An Unexpected Surprise!

There is even a sterile feces collection tube and several fecal occult blood test cards; the guide suggests testing December every two days to monitor its digestive health.

Apart from medical equipment, there’s an unexpected item for Lin Yu’an inside the box: a ruggedized electronic recorder that is waterproof, dustproof, and shockproof, similar to a reinforced PDA, equipped with an electronic scale and a soft measuring tape.

Dr. MacKeez required in the guide that he record December’s weight, length, temperature, food intake, defecation frequency, and characteristics daily.

This precise data will be the gold standard for assessing the cub’s health and adjusting the feeding plan, and will also become a unique and valuable scientific research material on polar bear cubs growing under emergency conditions.

Finally, in a small compartment, he discovers some ”toys”—an extremely sturdy red ball made of natural rubber and a puzzle toy that can hold food inside.

This is part of ”environmental enrichment” aimed at providing adequate stimulation to meet the behavioral needs of the animal and prevent boredom and anxiety in a singular environment.

All of this exceeds his expectations. This is no longer a simple supply; it is an entire portable miniature wildlife nursery and scientific research station.

On top of all the supplies, there lies quietly a waterproof document pouch sealed in plastic.

Lin Yu’an’s heartbeat quickens slightly as he cautiously tears open the seal and draws out a few pages.

The topmost page is a formal official document titled ”Wildlife Temporary Care Authorization.”

The document clearly states that Mr. Lin Yu’an is authorized to provide temporary emergency care for the polar bear cub numbered ECCC-PB-2023-012 for fifteen days until the Environment Canada’s professional team arrives.

The document includes a printed ”Polar Bear Cub Temporary Care Emergency Guide,” which lists in detail feeding frequency, the water temperature and concentration for formula preparation, daily defecation observation points, and emergency handling suggestions for abnormalities like diarrhea, lethargy, or food refusal.

Lin Yu’an reads the document word by word, with a swirl of emotions in his heart.

This means his actions have risen from personal goodwill to officially recognized, organized rescue operations.

Below the official document and the Emergency Guide, there is a piece of neatly folded letter paper with the Arctic Ecology Research Institute’s logo.

The handwriting on the letter is not printed; it’s a fluent but slightly edgy English script, handwriting he has seen before—the work of MacKeez.

Lin Yu’an:

Hello, I won’t call you ’Mr.’ anymore; after you read my personal journal and accurately guessed my password, I feel we don’t need to be so ’official.’

I received your letter through the loud producer Mark. To be honest, the past twenty-four hours have felt like a storm, and your letter is the most interesting part of the storm’s eye; I must admit, I read it three times.

About the password ’1984.’ You guessed it, precisely enough to give me goosebumps. Most people who see that box would think of using an ax to pry it open.

But you sat down and started analyzing what kind of intellectual its owner is, even quoted Orwell... Honestly, how did you do it? In a situation where you were almost starving, still have the mood to play this intellectual game? Just what kind of person are you?

About my journal, you said in your loneliest moments, you felt a ’wonderful companionship.’

You know, it feels strange. When I wrote those things, I was just talking to myself, complaining about the weather, griping about J.C.’s snoring, jotting down those fleeting thoughts that might be worthless.

I never thought there would be a second person, in another lonely time and space, who would resonate with those words. It’s made me feel... our loneliness seems to have a little overlap.

So I forgive your reading offense, but next time we meet, you have to tell me which bit of griping is your favorite.

Alright, let’s talk business. Although I want to continue discussing Orwell with you, we have a furry little fellow waiting to be rescued.

I have learned about your incident with the little polar bear through Mark; please allow me, on behalf of the institute, to express my most sincere respect and gratitude for your behavior in revering nature and helping Far North animals.

The official document in your hand is the result of coordination through some ’unconventional’ channels, and you may consider it your ’legal license.’

I will personally lead the team to retrieve it in ten days (there might be delays).

Yes, you read it right, I’m coming personally.

Because I’m very curious about what the person who wrote that letter looks like.

The supplies and ’Guide’ enclosed in the box, I stayed up late preparing for you, need you to understand that for the next ten days, you are not only the caretaker of the little polar bear but also a frontline ’scientific data collector.’

The electronic recorder, electronic scale, and tape measure in the box are crucial to this task.

I ask you to use the intelligence and rigor you used to crack my password, to strictly follow the requirements of the ’Guide,’ carefully measure and record its core physiological data daily at fixed times.
