King of the Wilderness

Chapter 328: Chapter 212: Polar Bear at the Door!

(Brothers, after 00:00, it will be the 15th, and the draw will take place tonight. Make sure to read the next Chapter for the lottery explanation!)

Around midnight, a slight ”clicking” sound, not belonging to the wind, instantly jolted Lin Yu’an awake from a light sleep!

His body tensed up immediately, and any trace of drowsiness vanished. His ears, like radars, caught any noise outside the shelter.

The sound came again, ”click...”, very softly, like stones slightly colliding, and the direction... it was coming from his snow well fridge where he stored food!

Lin Yu’an’s heart suddenly jumped into his throat. Could it be something else drawn by the scent of blood?

He silently slid out of his sleeping bag, stepping onto the cold ground without making a sound.

First, he reached for the sharp hunting knife, gripping it tightly in his hand, and then picked up the flint spear.

He didn’t go out immediately but quietly moved to one of the observation ports and peered through it.

By the faint starlight in the night sky and the reflection off the snow, he saw a scene that sent chills down his spine.

A white, furry figure was sprawled atop his snow well fridge!

It was futilely clawing at the huge slab used to weigh down the lid, and the ”clicking” sound was produced by its claws clashing with the slab.

The figure wasn’t large, looking round and not nearly as threatening as an adult wolf.

But Lin Yu’an’s fear was a hundred times stronger than when facing that lone wolf!

”Polar bear...” He mouthed the words to the action camera, heart pounding wildly.

On the Labrador Coastline, something so purely white with such a body size could only be one thing—a polar bear!

Even though it was a ”small” polar bear, this usually meant one thing...

Its mother was nearby!

Lin Yu’an immediately began to prepare for the worst. A mother bear with her cub is one of the most dangerous creatures on the planet.

To protect her young, she would attack anything she perceives as a threat, and wouldn’t stop until death.

This small shelter, before that enormous creature, was as fragile as paper.

He dashed to the equipment area, retrieving from a sealed waterproof box two items he had hoped never to use.

An orange high-pressure spray can and a gun-shaped flare gun.

”Bear repellent spray, mainly composed of high-concentration capsaicin, a flare gun, along with explosive and flash cartridges.”

He quickly but clearly demonstrated the equipment to the camera, his voice somewhat low due to the adrenaline surge.

”In the Labrador Region, especially in Newfoundland and Labrador Province, polar bears are under strict legal protection.”

”Unless facing an immediate deadly threat, proactively attacking a polar bear is a serious criminal offense! Therefore, the first principle in countering it is always ’deterrence and repulsion.’”

He checked the pressure valve of the bear repellent spray to ensure it was working properly, then placed it within easy reach.

Next, he skillfully loaded a red explosive cartridge into the flare gun.

”The correct response procedure is, if an adult polar bear approaches, first create a huge noise, such as firing a flare into the sky or banging on metal.”

”The goal is to let it know that humans are present, causing it to feel uneasy and leave voluntarily.”

”If noise is ineffective, and it continues to approach with menacing intent, then the next step is to use the bear repellent spray.”

”But its effective range is very short, which means I have to let it get very close to use it. It’s dangerous, but it’s a necessary step before resorting to lethal force.”

After doing all this, Lin Yu’an refreshed his grip on the cold flint spear, clearly aware that it was no different from a fire poker in front of an adult polar bear, almost useless.

As for his recurved longbow, he didn’t even consider it. He only had two wide-headed hunting arrows; actively hunting down a several hundred kilogram polar bear, larger than a grizzly? That wasn’t hunting; it was suicide.

He subconsciously glanced at his hand, the Spatial Golden Finger he was unwilling to use for this Frozen Throne challenge, his last trump card for survival.

If all deterrence means failed, and the mother bear still insisted on attacking, to survive, he would have to use this power that doesn’t belong to this world.

”I hope it never comes to that.” He silently whispered to himself in his heart.

After making all these preparations, Lin Yu’an forced himself to calm down, returning to the observation port, carefully observing, collecting information, assessing the threat level.

He observed for a full ten minutes, and the little guy kept struggling with the slab, its movements looking somewhat clumsy and weak, lacking the overwhelming power of an adult bear.

Moreover, more importantly, on the surrounding snow, aside from the traces left by this little one, he saw no sign of any adult polar bear.

”Something’s not right...” Lin Yu’an frowned tightly.

A cautious mother bear would never expose her cub so defenselessly on open ground when near human settlements.

Lin Yu’an did not relax his vigilance, standing sentinel-like beside the observation port, focusing all his attention on the outside world.
