Transmigrated as The Best Female Character of the Year

They were getting a little too close. Unaccustomed to it, Melody Monroe stood up, moved to a seat to the side, and put some distance between them.

Watching Melody Monroe’s move, Silas Rockwell felt like a complete fool. He had never been given the cold shoulder like this before. Awkwardly, he sat up straight and turned his gaze to the racetrack.

’Why isn’t Shawn Fisher out here yet? It’s so awkward doing this one-man show by myself.’

”Do you have someone you like, Miss Monroe?” Silas Rockwell asked again.

Melody Monroe: ...

’That doesn’t really have anything to do with Master Rockwell, does it?’

’Even Jasper Rockwell doesn’t seem to know much about my relationship with Evan Fairchild, so this Master Rockwell must know even less. Hitting on me like this... he can’t actually be interested, can he?’

The polite smile on Melody Monroe’s face vanished, replaced by a cool distance.

”That’s a personal matter I’m not comfortable discussing.”

Silas Rockwell suddenly smiled.

Watching him, Melody Monroe found his smile odd—a little too charming, a little too sly, like a cunning fox.

’A personal matter she’s not comfortable discussing... that means, ”Whether I like someone or not is none of your business.” It also means, ”Even if I do like someone, what’s that got to do with you?”’

’So, from that one sentence, he could tell exactly what stage Evan Fairchild’s pursuit had reached.’

’As expected, the old are always the craftiest!’

’Uncle Fairchild is miles ahead of Shawn Fisher.’

”My apologies. It was presumptuous of me to ask.”

Melody Monroe: ...

’Why do I feel like I’ve fallen into some kind of trap? I just can’t put my finger on it.’

”Let’s add each other on WeChat, shall we? I’m Jasper Rockwell’s second-oldest brother. You can think of me as an older brother, too.” Silas had already taken out his phone and pulled up his QR code.

Melody Monroe reached for her purse, though she really didn’t want to add him.

But Silas Rockwell just kept his phone raised, his eyes fixed on Melody Monroe, a wide, expectant smile on his face.

’It’s hard to be rude to someone with a friendly smile, especially when that someone was so handsome.’

’Besides, there was her connection to Jasper Rockwell. The Fairchild and Rockwell families had always been on good terms, and their elders visited each other often. They were bound to meet again in the future.’

Melody Monroe took out her phone and scanned his code.

”Most people find me pretty easy to get along with. Since you’re so close with Jasper, there’s no need to be so formal and distant with me.”

Melody Monroe offered an awkward but polite smile.

”Why don’t we grab dinner together after this is over?”

Melody Monroe was just about to refuse when Silas Rockwell added, ”To celebrate for Jasper.”

”Oh, okay,” Melody Monroe nodded.

’That was already part of the plan, anyway.’

’Was Silas Rockwell deliberately messing with her? He’d made it sound like he was asking her out alone, only to tack on the ’celebration party’ part at the end.’

”To be honest, car racing is pretty dangerous. My parents are against Jasper doing it, but there’s no stopping him. That kid, Jasper, has been stubborn since he was young—spoiled rotten. Not even a broken leg could dampen his passion for racing.”

”What? Did Jasper Rockwell break his leg racing?”

”Nope. My dad broke it.”

Melody Monroe: ...

She held back for a few seconds before she couldn’t resist anymore, pressing a hand to her forehead as she burst out laughing.

’That was a bit too tragic for Jasper Rockwell, but she couldn’t bring herself to feel sorry for him. All she wanted to do was laugh.’

The broadcast camera suddenly swept over, landing right on Melody Monroe and Silas Rockwell.

Melody Monroe was laughing, looking absolutely delighted. Silas Rockwell was also smiling, his gaze on her filled with deep affection.

At least, that was how the scene looked through Evan Fairchild’s eyes!

To say his gaze was full of deep affection wouldn’t be an exaggeration in the slightest!

’Silas Rockwell doesn’t know about our relationship yet... Don’t tell me he’s trying to make a move on my woman? He’s certainly got good taste!’
