Transmigrated as The Best Female Character of the Year

”My mom and I only had each other. When I was ten, that white man suddenly came back and told my mom he could take both of us to his country. She was so moved. She thought her suffering was finally over.”

”My mom and I went with that white man to his country. He took control of me and forced my mom to work in ’special services.’” Keith Coleman said this, then turned his face to the side.

Rose Shaw felt a pang in her heart, but she didn’t know how to comfort him.

”That went on for five years. My mom’s health got worse and worse. It was only later that I found out she had contracted a disease a long time ago and didn’t have much time left. For those five years, she refused to get treatment. Instead, she secretly saved some money for me, found a Chinese person, and asked them to send me back to our home country.”

”And then?” Rose Shaw asked softly.

”Eventually, I became the owner of that man’s establishment. That white man contracted the same disease, and now he’s in prison. I guess you could say he’s living a life worse than death.”

That short sentence contained far too much.

In such a place, Keith Coleman had still been a child. How much suffering must he have endured to become the man he was today?

”I’m not the marrying type. I have a lot of girlfriends—sometimes I’ve even dated several at once. After meeting President Fairchild, I started getting into the entertainment business. The number of women who’ve climbed into my bed is countless. I’m no good man; I’m a genuine scumbag. To avoid any complications, I had a vasectomy. I’m the type of guy who pulls up his pants and pretends he doesn’t know you.”

”But ever since I met you, I’ve been losing control. With you, it isn’t just physical. I want something emotional, too. I really, really want that.”

”Keith,” Rose Shaw cut in. ”We can be friends.”

Keith Coleman glanced at Rose Shaw, then turned and walked out.

Rose Shaw stood alone in the kitchen, her heart heavy.

’She would choose Felix Hughes mainly because she’d known him since childhood. They had that history. But Keith Coleman... he was a complete stranger. She couldn’t feel any sense of security with him.’

’Up to this point, Keith Coleman was just someone slightly more familiar than a stranger to her.’

’Now, perhaps, he was just a friend.’

Keith Coleman sat on the sofa outside and let out a heavy sigh.

’The first time he actually opened his heart, and this was the result.’

’In the past, he never had to put in any effort with the women he wanted. Was a real, serious relationship supposed to be this difficult?’

’It seemed none of his past experiences were of any help to him now.’

...

Evan Fairchild didn’t get home until after six. He’d assumed Melody Monroe wasn’t back yet, but he saw her car in the garage.

Auntie Lana walked over, took Evan Fairchild’s suit jacket, and said respectfully, ”Mr. Fairchild.”

”Where’s my wife?”

”In the study. When she came back today, she was carrying a big pile of books.”

Evan Fairchild swiftly headed upstairs.

After returning from Golden Garden, Melody Monroe had stopped by a bookstore to pick out some books for her studies.

As soon as she got back, she shut herself in the study.

Evan Fairchild pushed the door open to see Melody Monroe furrowing her brow, looking completely stumped. He walked up behind her, but she didn’t even notice.

She was working on a math problem. The scratch paper beside her was covered in her calculations. While none of them were correct, her general approach was on the right track.

She had dropped out during high school. He thought she would find this incredibly difficult, but watching her tackle a math problem like this, he found it a little odd.
