This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Du Heng shook his head decisively. ”Forget about the Plastic Surgery Department, don’t bother them.”

After Du Heng’s last conversation with the Plastic Surgery Department, their director seemed to have found a new sense of purpose. In the past two months, they had begun to focus on postpartum body recovery and perineal restoration. One director, two resident doctors, and eight nurses were now thriving. They had at least one patient per day for restoration, sometimes three or four. Based on the current situation, the Plastic Surgery Department’s income for the entire month of June was projected to rank among the top three of all departments. Departments like the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatric Care Department, Pediatrics Department, Otolaryngology Department, and Ophthalmology Department were all being outperformed. However, the Otolaryngology and Ophthalmology Departments only had a handful of staff—doctors and nurses combined totaling no more than five people—so there was hardly any point in comparing.

Du Heng felt this was quite thorough, but Gao Qin still wanted to say something.

Just then, a knock on the office door interrupted her. The gynecologist on duty for the day came in, with a man and a woman following closely behind.

”Dean, you’re here too,” the gynecologist said.

Du Heng smiled. ”What’s the matter?”

The entering doctor chuckled. ”This male patient of mine came for a mammary gland examination, and I’m not quite sure what’s going on. Director, could you please take a look?”

”Oh?” Du Heng had been about to leave, but hearing it was a male patient, he immediately sat back down. ”Tell me, what’s going on?”

The doctor turned to the man who had come with him. ”These two are our hospital’s Dean and Director. Please tell them about your situation.”

The man was ushered to the front, looking a bit shy. However, seeing that Gao Qin was older, while Du Heng was about his own age and also male, he mustered up the courage to speak.

”For the past few days, I’ve felt this swelling in my chest, and I feel like my breasts are too big.” The man suddenly glanced at his girlfriend, then at the doctor and Gao Qin. ”I think they’re bigger than all of yours.”

”AHEM.”

Du Heng almost burst out laughing.

Bigger than all of yours!

How did he even judge that?

Gao Qin was caught between amusement and exasperation. ”Young man, lift your shirt. Let me take a look.”

The man had already lifted his shirt once in the next room, so he wasn’t shy this time. He immediately flipped up his loose T-shirt.

Instantly, Gao Qin and Du Heng had a clear understanding of what he meant by ”big.” They were indeed large.

Gao Qin’s eyes lit up. She reached out to his chest, palpating it by squeezing and pressing in various places. ”No hard lumps, very uniform, and very soft. It doesn’t look like a lesion. I suspect it’s mammary gland hyperplasia. You should go get a...” She paused, then looked at Du Heng. ”Dean, would you like to examine him too?”

Du Heng was actually quite curious. He wanted to conduct an examination and witness this condition for himself, but he was too embarrassed to say so. After all, this was Gao Qin’s domain. But now that Gao Qin had suggested it, he didn’t hold back. He palpated as needed, squeezing and pressing. Ultimately, he reached the same conclusion as Gao Qin.

However, Du Heng practiced traditional Chinese medicine. His specialty wasn’t just palpation by squeezing and pressing, but also pulse diagnosis.

Once he finished taking the man’s pulse on both wrists, Du Heng smiled. ”You’re fine. You’re just a little overweight.”

The woman who had come in with him suddenly interjected, ”That can’t be right. We have friends who are even heavier than him, but with them, it’s clearly just sagging fat. My boyfriend is different. His are like... like a woman’s, somewhat full and perky.”

Du Heng glanced at the woman and chuckled. ”So you’ve seen such things?”

The woman glanced sidelong at her boyfriend. ”They, a bunch of guys, go shirtless drinking beer every summer. I’m not blind; how could I not see?”

”Then what made you decide to come to the hospital?” Du Heng asked.

”Recently, I’ve noticed that it doesn’t feel right to the touch, just like when I... well, like mine.” The woman raised an eyebrow. ”His feel just like a woman’s. He didn’t even want to come. I had to drag him here today.”

Du Heng sat in his chair and chuckled. ”Tell your boyfriend to exercise more. And you should touch his chest less. Even if you can’t help yourself, don’t rub it. Have him exercise for two or three months, and he’ll recover on his own.”

The woman was shocked and pointed at herself. ”So, this is my fault?”

Du Heng nodded. ”From his pulse, your boyfriend is a bit ’deficient,’ but he has no other issues. All his meridians are clear, and his cardiopulmonary functions are strong. He’s very healthy.”

The woman was still puzzled. ”Doctor, he’s so overweight, how can he be ’deficient’? That doesn’t seem right.”

The woman seemed very concerned about her boyfriend and also looked up to him. Every time Du Heng said something, she had a question ready. This kind of reaction left Du Heng not knowing whether to laugh or cry. ”As the saying goes, ’Nine out of ten men are deficient, nine out of ten women suffer from cold.’ There’s another saying: ’Nine out of ten overweight people are deficient.’ Your boyfriend is male and overweight; isn’t it normal for him to be a bit ’deficient’?”

Du Heng chuckled. ”Get more exercise. The issue with his chest will resolve on its own, and the ’deficiency’ will also disappear.”

”So, no medicine needs to be prescribed?”

”Why prescribe medicine for someone who’s perfectly healthy?”

After sending the couple away, Du Heng and Gao Qin looked at each other and couldn’t help but laugh.

If that man wore a slightly more form-fitting T-shirt, ninety-nine percent of women who saw him would probably die of insecurity.

Exaggerated!

And perfect!

This was why Du Heng preferred to stay in the consultation room rather than his office. Here, one could truly witness all sorts of novel occurrences and encounter all kinds of peculiar people.

Leaving Gao Qin’s office, Du Heng once again found himself at a loss for where to go. His status was different now, and the hospital was undergoing departmental reform. Whenever he visited a department or ward, the medical staff there would lose their focus. If he asked a few too many questions or paid a bit too much attention to a patient, the medical staff present would mentally concoct an entire fifty-episode TV drama. This was a realization Du Heng had slowly come to over the past two days.

Leaders shouldn’t show up in front-line departments unless absolutely necessary. Staying in the office is the best way to support front-line work. If that’s not an option, even just taking a stroll outside on the street would earn unanimous praise from everyone.

Du Heng genuinely had nowhere else to go, so he could only meander back towards the outpatient service of the Chinese Medicine Department. Doctor Ma, who was on duty today, might not appreciate his presence, but he had to go nonetheless.

Just as he reached the entrance, Wu Buwei, having completed his paperwork, also returned.

”Senior Brother, Director Qiu has already taken care of everything for me. What should I do now?” Wu Buwei, now wearing the white gown of the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital, asked.

Du Heng looked Wu Buwei up and down, and that familiar feeling immediately returned. He patted Wu Buwei’s shoulder with satisfaction. ”Good, then I’ll arrange some work for you.”

What kind of work could be arranged for Wu Buwei? Naturally, it would be related to stroke treatment.

However, as the integration process was still in flux, the work arranged wouldn’t involve anyone from other hospitals yet. Instead, it was to provide pre-job training for all the current TCM doctors at the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital. This pre-job training wasn’t focused on syndrome differentiation for paralysis and hemiplegia, as that couldn’t be achieved through short-term training. Instead, Wu Buwei was to train everyone’s hands-on treatment skills: needling, moxibustion, and various massage techniques.

”Senior Brother, will everyone listen to me?” Wu Buwei hesitated upon hearing the task Du Heng had assigned him.

Du Heng chuckled. ”This integration team should be composed of elites from various hospitals. Once my research project here concludes, they’ll be able to return to their respective hospitals and immediately shoulder significant responsibilities. This training is to enhance their competitiveness, allowing them to remain in the research group. If they’re all incompetent, unable to perform syndrome differentiation or treatment, then what need is there for them to stay in the research group? Would the others agree to that? If they can’t stay in the group, how could they expect to have a share in publishing papers, receiving bonuses, or obtaining grants?”

”Oh.” Wu Buwei nodded slowly. That seemed to make some sense.

But seeing Du Heng wandering around aimlessly, Wu Buwei couldn’t help but ask, ”Senior Brother, it’s so hot today. Can’t we go to your office to talk? It would be much more comfortable to have air conditioning and tea there than out here, wouldn’t it?”
