This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

”And do you realize how many papers can be written from those breakdowns? How many professional advancements, stalled due to a lack of research papers, can be resolved?”

Du Heng was dumbfounded, stuttering, ”Teacher, is it really that exaggerated?”

”Exaggerated?” The smile at the corner of Li Jianwei’s mouth became more apparent. ”Other research topics have already been exhaustively refined. Writing one core paper on those topics typically signals the end of that line of inquiry. But your topic is different. You’ve opened up a broad category, which can be further broken down by disease causes and pathogenesis. For every type of pathogenesis, the choice of medication, or even a single medicinal ingredient, could be the subject of a core paper. Moreover, your treatment process includes not only Decoction medicine but also acupuncture, moxibustion, and various massage techniques. These treatment methods can be further broken down to analyze the effect of each acupoint on the disease.”

Li Jianwei looked intently at Du Heng. ”My dear student, calculate for yourself just how many core papers could be produced from your research topic alone! And remember, each core paper is not only important to an individual doctor but equally important to each Hospital Department and the Hospital itself.”

Du Heng swallowed and asked blankly, ”If the topic is this appealing, why isn’t everyone more proactive?”

Li Jianwei glanced at Du Heng. My student should just stick to being a good doctor and stop worrying about everything else.

”Firstly, they don’t understand the disease as thoroughly as you do, so they’re hesitant to proceed without your guidance. Secondly, they want to see if you can actually produce research achievements after all the assistance they’ve provided. If you can’t, that capability remains yours alone, and they wouldn’t benefit. Naturally, they won’t invest more energy and expense. So, their previous stance was more about watching and waiting, not a lack of enthusiasm.”

Saying this, Li Jianwei suddenly started laughing. ”Just wait and see. We don’t even have to actively integrate them; they’ll come to you seeking deeper cooperation once they see your paper tomorrow.”

Du Heng felt a bit overwhelmed. ”So, how should we coordinate everything?”

”Centralize things. Gather the interested workplaces and doctors, and bring the patients together. Then, you take the lead. This way, everyone’s abilities can be quickly improved, and research achievements can be obtained faster.”

Li Jianwei sighed abruptly. ”Actually, the best way to research this topic would be within a single Hospital Department. That would directly create a specialty Department and a signature treatment method, which is beneficial for elevating a Hospital. Ah, let’s not dwell on this. It’s all due to a lack of experience earlier. Just be more attentive in the future.”

After hearing Li Jianwei’s words, Du Heng became instantly agitated.

He didn’t even want to handle the managerial work at the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital anymore, let alone manage this research group. I should just quit everything. The thought crossed his mind in an instant.

Li Jianwei was oblivious to Du Heng’s inner turmoil but genuinely wanted to help him. ”Xiao Heng, if you trust me, leave this to me. I’ll take care of all these fragmented tasks. You just focus on your research and treating patients. How does that sound?”

Du Heng was instantly overjoyed. ”Absolutely, why wouldn’t it? With you, Teacher, taking charge, I have no worries. I should be the one thanking you.”

”Alright then, I’ll handle this,” Li Jianwei said, smiling with satisfaction. ”By the way, come pick me up tomorrow morning. I’ll go with you to receive the award.”

Speaking of the award, an even broader smile spread across Li Jianwei’s face.

His own student, a recipient of the Provincial Level Science and Technology Third Prize! There were only two recipients of this award in the medical category. This was more glorious than receiving an award himself. If he didn’t show off to his friends tomorrow, it would be like wearing finery in the dark; he would feel extremely frustrated. But he didn’t consider how others might feel while he was rejoicing.

Du Heng nodded in agreement. Seeing that there was nothing else to discuss, he bid farewell and left.

Since it was already afternoon, there was no point in going to the Hospital. Du Heng decided to go straight home.

Halfway there, he received a call from Director Zheng. ”Dean, the program group hasn’t accepted the money we returned. Moreover, they’ve added an extra 5,000 yuan to your program fee.”

Monetary compensation? I don’t care for it. Du Heng was indifferent. ”What on earth are they trying to do today?”

”Their explanation is that while they don’t understand medical issues, Dr. Wei indeed has a high reputation locally. They even interviewed local residents, which is why they agreed to have Dr. Wei on the show.”

Du Heng was rather furious. If he hadn’t been there today, allowing such charlatans on television for promotion would have harmed patients, the medical profession, and his own career. Can this simply be explained by them understanding or not understanding? This is pure hooliganism!

”So, what’s their proposed solution?”

”They said the show will be broadcast as scheduled and won’t be recklessly edited.” Director Zheng paused for a moment before continuing, ”The person in charge of the show said they want to film an opening sequence for you and give you a special introduction at the beginning of the program.”

Du Heng pondered for a moment. ”Okay, when do they want to film?”

”They suggested tomorrow?”

”Tell them I’m going to the provincial level to accept an award tomorrow; I won’t have time for the shoot.”

”I’ll ask them again.”

”Alright.”

After hanging up, Du Heng didn’t rush to start the car and leave.

He was willing to cooperate with the TV station, as long as they broadcast the program normally. It needed to be free of the malicious editing rumored online and successfully expose the true nature of these so-called masters.

He had barely pondered this for two seconds when the phone he had just hung up rang again.

”What did they say?”

”They asked if it would be possible to film tonight. Their program is scheduled to air the day after tomorrow, so they’re short on time.”

Du Heng thought for a moment. ”Alright, let’s shoot now. Should I come to you, or should we do it in my office?”

”Just come to the TV station.”

”I’ll be there shortly.”

The so-called opening sequence filming involved Du Heng getting makeup done and striking various ”cool” and ”impressive” poses.

However, some of these poses genuinely embarrassed Du Heng. For example, standing sideways with his arms crossed, neck craned, and face tilted up, looking like a roasted quail.

I can’t stand these poses. Posing like this doesn’t make me look like a Doctor at all; it makes me look like a moron, the kind full of cringeworthy, juvenile antics.

After the shoot finished, while Du Heng was busy removing the makeup from his face, the person in charge of the program group finally appeared.

He first apologized profusely to Du Heng, then promised they would edit and broadcast the show properly. Only at the end did he suddenly ask, ”President Du, I heard you’re going to the provincial level to receive an award tomorrow?”

Du Heng, following the makeup artist’s instructions, meticulously used the makeup removal products. Why does my face feel like it’s been slathered with marsdenia just for taking a few photos?

”Yes, is there an issue?”

”Of course not. It’s just that I recall the Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award ceremony is also tomorrow. I was wondering if President Du is attending that as well?”

Du Heng glanced back casually. ”That’s the award I’m going to receive.”

The program head’s eyes instantly lit up, and he became visibly excited.

He didn’t know if others were aware of this award, but he certainly knew what it signified for public institutions like theirs.

”President Du, are you receiving the award as an individual or on behalf of your workplace?”

”When the application was submitted, it was in my personal name. So, I suppose the award will also be presented to me as an individual.”

The person in charge began rubbing his hands excitedly.

The Science and Technology Progress Awards in Jinzhou weren’t as complicated as elsewhere; they were simply divided into first, second, and third prizes. Moreover, based on previous years’ selection criteria, collective workplace awards usually dominated the first, second, and third prizes. Individual awards, unless exceptionally outstanding, were generally not approved.

”If I may be so bold as to ask one more question, what class of prize will President Du be receiving?”

”I’m not sure.” Du Heng suddenly turned towards him. ”You wouldn’t happen to know some insider information, would you?”

The person in charge chuckled. ”Insider information? Me? I was just curious.”
