This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Du Heng laughed. ”You look at your Department and think it’s fine, but how many such Departments do we have in our Hospital?

General Office? Medical Affairs Department? Logistics and Procurement Department? Material Management Department?

You tell me, with so many Departments, are there enough to accommodate colleagues eliminated from the wards?”

After hearing Du Heng’s words, Qiu Pingzhen decided not to argue further.

Du Heng had already figured out where those people would go, so what more could he say?

It was just that, this way, it would be tough on the Administrative Department and their contracted colleagues.

Qiu Pingzhen walked out of Du Heng’s office, head bowed, mulling things over. Suddenly, he understood: the Departmental reform was definitely going to happen.

But regarding whether employees would stay or go, Du Heng hadn’t seemed to make a final decision.

He remembered Du Heng’s initial words: if they themselves don’t change, it wouldn’t matter if you thought until your head exploded or ran until your legs broke.

In other words, as long as these people were willing to change, willing to learn and improve—just like the Gynecology Department and Internal Medicine Department—they still had a chance.

So, Du Heng telling him all this today was for the purpose of...

Qiu Pingzhen understood. It was just two words: a warning.

If such a warning had no effect, then measures would have to be taken.

And the methods were harsh, laid out right before their eyes.

A multiple-choice question. It was up to them how they chose.

By the time work ended in the afternoon, news about the Departmental reform had spread throughout the entire Hospital. Details about personnel arrangements were also leaking out sporadically.

For a moment, none of the medical staff were in the mood to leave work. Those who usually left right on time were all acting like model employees today.

But judging by their darting eyes, it was clear what they were thinking.

And those who considered themselves to have good relationships with the leadership either took out their mobile phones or were already rushing to the leaders’ offices.

The colleagues in the Gynecology Department were no exception. Like everyone else, they wanted to know how accurate this news was. Now, also like everyone else, they sat in their office, staring at each other.

Gao Qin finished her tasks and, grabbing her bag, prepared to leave. As she passed the doctors’ office, she saw the silent crowd inside and curiously walked in. ”Why, is everyone on duty today?”

Someone in the doctors’ office suddenly stood up and relayed the news they’d heard. ”Director, will our Department be merged or dissolved?”

Gao Qin glanced around the office at everyone and suddenly burst out laughing. ”You all stayed late because of this news?”

”Hmm.”

Everyone nodded in unison.

At this moment, the head nurse also came over with the other nurses, gathering behind Gao Qin. Departmental adjustments wouldn’t spare them, the nurses, either.

Gao Qin looked cheerfully at the crowd before her, laughing for a good while before saying, ”I don’t know what to say about you all. Are those big heads on your shoulders just for breathing?”

Everyone looked pensive, but no one interjected. They all waited for Gao Qin to continue.

”What’s our Department like now?” Gao Qin took her shoulder bag off and slowly walked further into the office. ”And what’s the situation in other Departments?

”You all still haven’t figured out why the Dean wants to merge and dissolve certain Departments.

”Ultimately, it comes down to two words: efficiency!”

”Efficiency?” Thinking of their Department’s current situation, everyone suddenly perked up.

Gao Qin smiled in affirmation. ”That’s right, efficiency. Each of our Departments typically has five or six doctors and about ten nurses. The monthly fixed expenses, plus other normal overhead, for each Department amounts to at least around 100,000 yuan.

”However, some Departments have monthly revenues of only 70,000 to 80,000 yuan, or even as low as 50,000 to 60,000 yuan. They can’t even sustain themselves, so their section employment salaries are entirely subsidized by the Hospital.

”Tell me, in such a situation, wouldn’t the leadership start having some ideas?”

Gao Qin found a seat and casually placed her bag aside. ”So, if we need efficiency, where does it come from?” As she spoke, she looked at the crowd with a faint smile.

Then she answered her own question. ”We’re a Hospital, so it naturally comes from patients. But where do patients come from? Of course, they come from our doctors’ treatments and our nurses’ care, from the direction of making patients healthier.

”And to achieve this goal, all our medical staff must possess commendable professional skills and satisfactory service attitudes.”

At this point, another Deputy Director of the Gynecology Department walked in and chuckled softly. ”Our hospital rooms are now almost full, and our daily outpatient service volume is over fifty. Compared to other major Hospitals, we are indeed lacking, but how do we compare to other Departments within our own Hospital?”

She looked around at everyone, then continued, ”And what about compared to ourselves two months ago?”

Everyone present let out a sigh of relief, the corners of their mouths lifting into small smiles.

Two months ago, the number of inpatients in their hospital rooms was only five or six.

Back then, Du Heng had asked them to do the ’Sending Warmth’ activity. Gao Qin had diligently carried out this task, even though everyone had been full of complaints at the time.

So that’s what all that was for!

At this moment, someone suddenly said, ”Then... the Pediatric Care Department and those other Departments, they’re definitely going to be dissolved or merged, right?”

Hearing this, Gao Qin chuckled lightly. ”You’re all still thinking too simplistically. The Departments we can think of—their staff add up to nearly a hundred people. How could so many people be dismissed so easily?”
