This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Du Ping’s final decision shocked not only Wu Shengnan but also left Du Heng completely bewildered.

A matchmaker? Yes, around here, there was indeed this custom: a matchmaker was supposed to accompany the groom’s side when formally proposing to the bride’s family. But in my situation, where could I find a matchmaker willing to go to Wu Shengnan’s father’s house to propose marriage? Someone from my own village? It’s not that I look down on the people from my village; the difference in social status is just too vast. If I brought someone, forget proposing marriage, they’d probably just embarrass both families.

Thinking this, Du Heng quickly said, ”Brother, everything else can be discussed and done according to tradition, but let’s forget about the matchmaker. You know Uncle Wu’s situation too; I’m afraid a suitable matchmaker would be hard to find.”

Reminded by Du Heng, Du Ping suddenly realized he had gotten a bit ahead of himself. My in-laws showed me great respect, and I got a bit carried away.

He immediately nodded, indicating that he understood, and stopped talking about the matchmaking. Instead, he inquired about other matters, such as the decoration of the new house and whether they needed to buy new furniture.

While Du Heng was discussing the marriage details, Mei Dong from the Provincial Women and Children’s Hospital had also finished his morning work. On his way to his office, he suddenly remembered what had happened yesterday and changed course, heading to the Medical Affairs Office.

After reviewing the documents, Mei Dong’s eyes lit up. ”Director Sun, are you sure there’s no problem with this resume?”

Director Sun patted his chest. ”You can question my character, but you cannot doubt my ability. Any document that passes through my hands is correct. This resume is flawless, genuine.”

As he spoke, he couldn’t help but sigh, ”I wouldn’t have known if I hadn’t checked, but this check was a real eye-opener! Jinzhou has produced a true prodigy; it’s simply amazing.

”Look at his achievements. Not only has he surpassed his peers, but even those older than him would have to bow out in shame.

”However, our intelligence network is still lacking. He is now the Level 2 Dean of the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital. That’s already significant, but he’s also concurrently serving as Deputy Director of both the Chinese Medicine Department and Digestion Department 1 of the Provincial First Hospital! We had no idea about such an incredible person. It’s such a failure on our part.”

Mei Dong carefully looked through Du Heng’s resume, quickly reaching the last page. Not wanting to make small talk with Director Sun, he took the resume and headed to his own office. There was a baby in his ward waiting to be saved.

Back in his office, Mei Dong immediately picked up the phone and entered Du Heng’s number. But just as he was about to dial, he hesitated.

Contacting Du Heng so directly would be not only abrupt but also impolite.

After a moment’s thought, Mei Dong deleted Du Heng’s number and called the Hospital Office of the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital instead.

「Du Heng was frustrated.」

Ever since the New Year, every time he wanted to stay on the mountain for an extra day, various issues would arise. Last time, it was the three of them breaking someone’s leg; this time, the Provincial Women and Children’s Hospital invited him for a consultation. These were all matters he couldn’t refuse.

With no other option, Du Heng and Wu Shengnan set off from home without even having lunch.

After dropping Wu Shengnan off at her destination, Du Heng drove towards the Provincial Women and Children’s Hospital. Director Zheng from the Hospital Office, treating this as a major event, had personally come over.

”Director Zheng, what’s going on?” After meeting, neither was in a hurry to go upstairs; they decided to get the details straight first.

Director Zheng wiped the sweat from his temples with a tissue. His overly obese body made him particularly intolerant to heat. ”I’m not quite sure either. It was Director Mei Dong from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Provincial Women and Children’s Hospital who called. He got straight to the point, saying he wanted to invite you, Dean, to help consult on a child, also with Cerebral Hypoxia Complications.”

”Have you verified it? Make sure we’re not being fooled.” Du Heng was worried. ”There have been many people online criticizing us recently. Some crazy person might be trying to set us up, dig a trap, and then watch us make fools of ourselves.”

Director Zheng stood under the scorching sun, visibly uncomfortable. Seeing that Du Heng showed no sign of moving, he could only glare resentfully at the ’vicious’ sun and endure it.

”You can rest assured on this. I’ve confirmed it. It really was Director Mei Dong himself.”

”Alright, let’s go upstairs then.” Du Heng finally started towards the Provincial Women and Children’s Hospital building. Director Zheng heaved a sigh of relief and quickly ducked into the shade.

”I’ll go to the ward to see the child later. You help me handle the subsequent consultation paperwork.”

Once inside the building, out of the direct sunlight, Zheng felt a refreshing sensation from the soles of his feet to the top of his head. Listening to Du Heng’s arrangements, he asked with some confusion, ”Dean, although it’s an inter-hospital consultation, everyone just sees it as a formality. No one really takes the consultation form seriously.”

”We should still be careful. Times are different now. There are crazy people everywhere, and if one of them latches onto this to make trouble, we’ll have a problem.”

Director Zheng didn’t think much of Du Heng’s caution, but since Du Heng was his boss, he had no choice but to obediently follow his instructions.

At this moment, outside the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, several families of pediatric patients who had received notifications were waiting anxiously in line, awaiting the doctor’s next call. Each of them was so cautious and vulnerable, standing expressionlessly at the door.
