This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Lu Guangying cleared her throat. ”Dean, the Chinese Medicine Department has now treated over thirty children with cerebral palsy. Although the symptoms of each patient vary, they are generally showing improvement.

I believe you should have a more mature treatment approach by now.

My idea is to apply for a research project on this as well, involving the Obstetrics and Pediatrics Departments.

Our traditional Chinese medicine treatments are already effective. Building on this, we can develop an integrated Chinese and Western medicine therapy. This approach would further increase the cure rate of your treatment method and, as a result, allow our hospital’s Obstetrics and Pediatrics Departments to flourish.

Moreover, we are currently reforming our departments. It would be perfect to solve this issue definitively by dividing the merged ward into three parts.

One part to be used as the treatment ward for the stroke research group, one part as the treatment ward for the Cerebral Palsy Research Group, and the last part as the regular ward for the Chinese Medicine Department.

In this way, we can maximize your strength as Dean and develop the Chinese Medicine Department to its greatest extent as quickly as possible.

It would also prevent issues like insufficient ward space for research groups, cross-infection, and chaotic management.

At that time, we only need to appoint three ward leaders, one for each ward, to solve this problem.”

After hearing Lu Guangying’s words, Du Heng couldn’t help but admire her.

It turns out this woman really has what it takes to hold her position.

Moreover, the idea of applying for a research project on cerebral palsy treatment was also an eye-opener for Du Heng.

His recent experiences made him realize that while medical skill is necessary, the ability to apply for research projects and produce results could help him achieve his goals more easily.

As much as it was a good idea, Du Heng hesitated for a moment.

Firstly, he wasn’t very familiar with how to apply for research projects, and secondly, he was worried he wouldn’t be able to handle two projects simultaneously.

But it seemed Lu Guangying misunderstood Du Heng’s expression. ”Dean, for our hospital, applying for this project has greater benefits than the stroke research project.

After all, the stroke project is under the name of Provincial First Hospital, so even if we achieve some results, we’ll have to share the profits with them.

But this cerebral palsy project is different. We can apply for it under our own hospital’s name, and based on the current treatment situation, generating results should be relatively easy.”

Lu Guangying paused for a moment while looking at Du Heng’s expression. ”Furthermore, our hospital has failed the ratings for four consecutive years and even been downgraded, becoming a Level 2 hospital now.”

Du Heng’s spirits lifted. In his two months at the hospital, he hadn’t touched upon this issue, and he immediately became interested. ”Which rating was being evaluated? Why did it fail?”

”Initially, we were aiming for tertiary and secondary status. Although our hospital’s office environment is a bit old, our current facilities meet the standards for third-class hospitals.”

At this moment, Secretary Huang chimed in, ”I’ve been involved in the rating process over the past few years, so I have a clear understanding.

Our hospital’s failure in ratings, and even its demotion, is due to two main reasons.

Firstly, the number of patients visiting our hospital has been decreasing annually. This reduction has led to a decline in our hospital’s overall revenue. Consequently, we not only fail to meet the Health Commission’s rating standards but have also been downgraded.

Secondly, as a third-class hospital, we need a certain level of research capabilities. However, our hospital’s research capabilities are extremely weak; one could even say nonexistent.

Based on this alone, we’ve already lost the qualification for rating.”

Secretary Huang suddenly glanced at everyone present. ”In the past four years, our hospital has only published two qualifying papers and promoted one deputy senior and one senior.”

That’s pretty pathetic.

Du Heng also glanced around at everyone.

When medical staff can’t advance, it’s not solely their problem; management is definitely at fault too.

Lu Guangying coughed to break the slightly awkward atmosphere. ”Dean, if we can secure this cerebral palsy research project, and if you could write a few articles and guide others to produce some results, I believe we’ll certainly achieve the tertiary and secondary rating in this year’s evaluation.”

As she spoke, she became excited as well. ”If we produce enough outstanding papers and our research results win awards, we can aim directly for Grade 3A next year!”

Lu Guangying looked at Du Heng seriously. ”Dean, if we can really secure this research project, there will be corresponding project funding. With the project funding, we can quickly recruit talented people to further enrich your research group and speed up the research.”

Du Heng touched his nose.

So, this is my most reliable path to advancement.

If what Lu Guangying says comes true, this is far more reliable than transferring to another Grade 3A hospital.

”Alright, let’s apply for this project then.” As he spoke, Du Heng looked around at everyone, feeling a bit awkward. ”I’m not really sure what to prepare for the project application or how to apply.”

The words had barely settled when the Vice Dean, who had been silent all along, suddenly said, ”Leave this task to me. I’ve applied before.”

Du Heng felt relieved. Having someone to help is the best thing. ”Then, I’ll have to trouble Dean Qiao.”

Dean Qiao smiled slightly. ”When submitting the application report, Dean, you should seek out Director Zhuo. This way, the chance of success will be greater, it will be faster, and most importantly, the funding will be more generous.”

”Alright, just let me know when you need me.” Du Heng wasn’t nervous at all about finding Director Zhuo and agreed without hesitation.

Once the conversation was over, everyone left Lu Guangying’s office.

However, after leaving Lu Guangying’s office, Du Heng suddenly felt lost, realizing he had nowhere to go.

He turned to Kang Zhirong, who was beside him. ”Xiao Kang, have those people in my office left yet?”

Kang Zhirong shook his head. ”I don’t know. I’ll go check.”

”Okay, you go check. I’ll wait for you downstairs.”

Du Heng went downstairs first.

He had already decided. If those people haven’t left, I’ll just head home and not stay at the hospital any longer.

As soon as he reached the ground floor, Kang Zhirong hurried back. ”Dean, they’re still there.”

Hearing this, Du Heng no longer hesitated and walked directly to his car. ”Well, let them stay. I’m heading home.”

Kang Zhirong quickly jogged a few steps to stop Du Heng. ”Dean, there’s one more thing.”

”What is it?” Du Heng halted.

Kang Zhirong hurriedly said, ”Someone named Wu Buwei phoned you. He wants to invite you to dinner tonight and asked you to call him back when you have time.”

Wu Buwei?

Du Heng looked at his cell phone in his pocket with a puzzled expression.

Then he suddenly remembered: I gave my previous phone number to Kang Zhirong to handle as a work line, but I forgot to inform my old friends.

”Alright, I got it.”

Du Heng left in his car and then called Wu Buwei.

「At the tea stall by the Yellow River, a Three Sips Wine cost twenty yuan.」

Savoring the sweetness in the tea bowl, with the murmur of the Yellow River’s flowing water in his ears, the cool breeze from the river dispelled the lingering heat of the sunset. Everything was pure enjoyment.

So relaxing!

With his eyes closed, Du Heng swayed on the recliner, soaking in the experience.

”Senior Brother, I’m here.”

The sound of Wu Buwei’s voice roused Du Heng. He pointed to another recliner beside him and said, ”Sit.”

He swayed again. ”This breeze feels so comfortable. This is the life.”

Wu Buwei happily lay down on the recliner as well. ”It’s so comfortable. I can only enjoy this today thanks to you, Senior Brother.”

”What do you mean?”

”It’s because our Dean and Director let me come. Otherwise, I’d still be a miserable resident doctor, cooped up in the ward all day.”

In front of Du Heng, Wu Buwei was very relaxed, speaking his mind freely.

Hearing Wu Buwei’s words, Du Heng understood. ”What’s this? Has your Municipal Second Hospital taken a fancy to my project too?”

Wu Buwei sprawled lazily on the recliner. ”That’s right. That’s exactly what I mean.”
