This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

Wang Shuqiu’s uncle and aunt’s arrival caught Du Heng by surprise. This was something he had never anticipated.

At first, he thought of not going to see them, but he was worried that these two rascals might cause a scene, so he decided to go and see what they intended to do.

When Du Heng went down from the hospital rooms on the third floor to the Hall, Gong Daoyang had already walked in quickly.

Looking at his expression, it was clear he also knew about the situation in Wang Shuqiu’s family.

In theory, Du Heng should be angry with Wang Zhenzhen. She knew her cousin’s family situation, yet she still introduced Wang Shuqiu to him; this was obviously setting him up. However, looking at it from another angle, his relationship with Wang Zhenzhen at that time could only be considered that of colleagues who got along reasonably well. It was understandable for her to seek a good marriage for her sister. After all, his and Wang Shuqiu’s connection to Wang Zhenzhen was not as immediate as Wang Zhenzhen’s own sisterly bond. Besides, it was also his own issue. When dating, the choice of whether they could make it to the end was still in his own hands. At first, it might have been youthful infatuation, captivated by her beauty, but after learning the truth, he was still willing to be with Wang Shuqiu, so he couldn’t blame others. In fact, Du Heng was a little grateful to Wang Zhenzhen, thanking her for introducing him to a girlfriend, wife, and lover who suited him so well. Every family has its own struggles, though the nature of those struggles may differ. If one wants to find a perfect partner to marry, one must first consider if they themselves are worthy. When your own life is a mess of trivial problems, what right do you have to demand perfection from others? Overly self-confident yet ordinary men are undesirable, and the same goes for such women. Besides, Wang Shuqiu’s family matters concerned her relatives more than Wang Shuqiu herself; and Wang Shuqiu, as a girl, was not only beautiful but also very adept at managing a household. So, why should he be angry with Wang Zhenzhen?

Gong Daoyang, dressed in uniform, chest puffed out and wearing a stern expression, was still quite imposing as he walked in.

”Xiao Heng, I’ll accompany you to meet these two ’celebrities’.”

”Celebrities?” Du Heng was slightly puzzled.

A cynical smile touched Gong Daoyang’s lips. ”Xiao Qiu’s uncle and aunt, and Xiao Qiu’s mother, are quite notorious in their village and within their extended family.”

He glanced at Du Heng. ”Don’t be offended if I say something harsh.”

Du Heng shook his head. ”I won’t.”

Gong Daoyang then shook his head vigorously. ”Forget it. Let’s not discuss it. Let’s go meet them and see what they’re up to.”

Du Heng shrugged, unconcerned by Gong Daoyang’s sudden change of mind.

In the office, Du Heng sat directly in his chair and looked at the couple before him, who appeared much more haggard. He asked bluntly, ”What do you two want from me?”

The couple looked extremely nervous, completely lacking their previous intimidating attitude. Seeing the stern-faced Gong Daoyang sitting to the side, their hearts filled with even more panic.

But Du Heng suspected this was an act, a tactic forced upon them by the circumstances. After all, a leopard cannot change its spots!

”You two, speak quickly,” Du Heng urged, his tone laced with impatience. ”I have patients to treat and no time to waste on you.”

The aunt, who usually liked to be the first to speak, kept her mouth tightly shut today. Instead, she kept signaling her husband with her eyes to speak up, nudging him repeatedly with small gestures.

Seeing Du Heng’s impatient expression and his movement as if to stand, the uncle finally spoke, ”Xiao Du, for Qiuqiu’s and Xiao Fang’s sake, please help us.”

Du Heng laughed silently. ”If Qiuqiu and Xiao Fang needed my help, they would ask me directly. They wouldn’t need you to relay messages. Just be direct. I can’t help you with what you’re planning. Don’t waste your time here; go think of other solutions.”

The uncle panicked. He almost erupted as he might have before, but then he saw Gong Daoyang watching coldly nearby and Du Heng sitting in the large boss’s chair. In the end, he didn’t dare lose his temper.

Du Heng, however, noticed these subtle movements. Just as he’d suspected, their panicked and helpless demeanor was merely a disguise.

”Xiao Du, what I said last time was in anger. My sister will agree to your marriage soon. Besides, I’m Qiuqiu’s uncle, and Xiao Yuan is her cousin. When you two get married, it wouldn’t be complete without Xiao Yuan...”

Listening to Wang Shuqiu’s uncle babble on, Du Heng found it ridiculous. How important did this family think they were, to claim the wedding wouldn’t be ’perfect’ without the cousin? Where did they get such audacity?

But Du Heng also detected something odd. Provoking trouble usually led to only two or three months of detention. Why would that prevent someone from attending a wedding? What was really going on?

The uncle didn’t give Du Heng time to ponder, continuing, ”Also, I’ve persuaded my sister; you won’t need to give any betrothal gifts. As long as you’re willing to help, we’ll even give Qiuqiu a car as part of her dowry.”

”What brand of car? How much does it cost? Who’s paying for it? You?” Du Heng suddenly asked, a faint smile playing on his lips as he looked at the couple opposite him.

Du Heng’s sudden questions left the couple speechless for a long moment.

Clearly, their earlier claims were utter nonsense.

Du Heng looked at them with disdain. They had to leech off his own sister to survive, yet they talked about giving a car as dowry? What a joke. Besides, do we even need a car from you?

”To be honest, I don’t know you well, nor do I wish to. As for Xiao Qiu and Xiao Fang, they don’t want any involvement with you either. I didn’t intend to comment on your actions, but since you’ve come to my door today, I’ll speak my mind.”

Du Heng’s tone was extremely harsh. ”I genuinely despise you. Your treatment of Xiao Fang, in particular, makes it impossible for me to have any positive feelings towards you. As a husband and wife, you are incorrigibly lazy. As parents, you are utterly unworthy of the title; it’s disgusting. As a younger brother (to Shuqiu’s mother), you are like a bloodsucking leech, utterly repulsive.”

Du Heng leaned back in his chair, gently tapping the tabletop, his eyes narrowed slightly. ”In my plans, after Qiuqiu and I marry, I will have her cut off all contact with your family. Relatives like you bring me shame and disgrace. And Qiuqiu fully supports this idea.”

”So, don’t bring up Qiuqiu, and certainly don’t bring up Xiao Fang. As for matters between Qiuqiu and me, none of you have any say.”

Du Heng’s words were scathing, making the couple’s faces red and ears hot.

The uncle finally couldn’t hold back and looked ready to explode. Whether due to his inherent nature or the stress of recent events, he had reached his limit.

However, Du Heng’s next casual remark made them wilt like deveined shrimp. ”Oh, I forgot to introduce you. This is the director of our Central Lake Police Station.”

Seeing the couple immediately soften, Du Heng chuckled. ”And let me formally warn you: most of the patients currently hospitalized here are suffering from cerebral hemorrhage or heart disease. They cannot withstand any agitation.”

”If you dare to cause a disturbance here by shouting and yelling, and should any patient suffer a relapse as a result, leading to their families attacking you, don’t blame me for not having warned you.”

”Furthermore, you two will bear full responsibility for any such incident, which includes not only financial compensation but also imprisonment. So, think very carefully before you act. Don’t blame me later for not giving you this warning.”

”You...” The uncle was both shocked and frightened, pointing at Du Heng, speechless for a moment.

”Don’t ’you...’ me. From the moment Zhao Xinyuan stalked Qiuqiu, verbally abused her, and even prepared tools to injure her, I stopped considering any of you as relatives. I didn’t call the police back then purely out of consideration for Qiuqiu.”

With that, Du Heng stood up. ”If you’ll please excuse yourselves. I have other matters to attend to and won’t keep you any longer.”

The couple was stunned, unsure whether to leave or stay.

”What? Would you prefer Director Gong to escort you out?” Du Heng asked, his expression unreadable as he looked at them.

Gong Daoyang cooperated perfectly, shifting slightly as if to rise, his eyes fixed on the couple with an unreadable, almost mocking smile. This put immense psychological pressure on them.

They were, at best, minor gangsters and ruffians, the type who only dared to torment their closest relatives like the uncle’s sister. They certainly didn’t have the nerve to confront an actual police station director, especially not in Central Lake, a place utterly unfamiliar to them.

Under Gong Daoyang’s unwavering gaze, their resolve crumbled within thirty seconds.

Without another word, they turned and fled dejectedly.

And Gong Daoyang, committed to seeing the matter fully resolved, personally followed them. He escorted them out of the Health Clinic, watched them get into their car, and only then turned back after their vehicle disappeared from sight.

Du Heng had also walked out. Seeing them finally leave like that, he breathed a sigh of relief.

Frankly, he had been genuinely worried that the two troublemakers would cause a scene at the Health Clinic. His own reputation was a secondary concern; he was primarily worried about the disruption to the Health Clinic and its inpatients. Now that they had left so quietly, he could finally relax.

Gong Daoyang turned back, grinning at Du Heng. ”Alright, brother, it’s all settled now.”

”Thanks, Gong. If it weren’t for you today, those two would have definitely caused some trouble.”

”We’re brothers; no need for such formalities. Are you free tonight? I’d like to treat you to dinner.”

”If Gong is treating, I’ll definitely make time,” Du Heng replied with a laugh. ”But you have to tell me the occasion, otherwise, as you said, it’s too formal between us.”

”Ah, it’s because your sister is pregnant with twins! It calls for a celebration. How about it, will you do me the honor?”

”Of course, I’ll definitely be there.”

”Great. See you tonight then. Bring Xiao Fang along.”

”Okay.”

After bidding Gong Daoyang farewell, Du Heng became lost in thought.

The arrival of Wang Shuqiu’s uncle and aunt, along with what they had said, had left him somewhat puzzled. However, once they departed, he had pushed those doubts to the back of his mind. But Gong Daoyang’s mention of Xiao Fang just now had brought those earlier doubts resurfacing. And suddenly, he thought of Liao Quansheng. Perhaps Liao Quansheng could shed some light on his confusion.
