This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

At this point, he lost the mood to continue speaking.

The woman took the card, ready to leave, but the old man suddenly asked, ”What about the prescription you wrote? Aren’t you going to give it to me?”

”You’ll get it along with the payment receipt when you pay. Don’t worry, it’ll have details, and we won’t overcharge you.”

Du Heng was direct in his speech, openly telling them that there would be no hidden charges.

”I want to get the medicine outside.” The old man was stubborn.

Du Heng didn’t beat around the bush in his reply.

”I’m sorry, but my prescriptions can only be filled at the hospital pharmacy. If you want to obtain the medicine elsewhere, please find another doctor.”

”On what grounds?”

”On the grounds that I wrote the prescription, and I’m worried people might take the medicine incorrectly and then try to extort me.”

”I paid the money. Why won’t you give me the prescription?” The old man, fuming at Du Heng’s sarcastic tone, would not back off even as his wife tried to pull him away.

Du Heng calmly replied, ”You paid for the diagnosis, which I provided and explained. Is there a problem? If there’s anything unclear, I can explain further. However, you haven’t paid for the treatment.”

”You...”

”If you’re willing to accept my treatment, then pay and get the medicine. If you’re not, then you can leave.” Du Heng made a gesture with his hand, ”Please leave if there’s nothing else, as the patients waiting behind you are getting anxious.”

The old man wanted to say something, but his wife angrily grabbed his collar and flung him forward. ”Have you had enough? Are you trying to take advantage of our kindness?”

The old man, whose waist was already in pain, staggered as a result of the shove. He hadn’t even caught his balance when his wife gave him another push from behind. ”Hurry up and leave, I’m so embarrassed for you.”

The stubborn old man, like a donkey, was driven out by his wife in just a few moves. He didn’t dare make another peep and became remarkably docile.

Watching the old man being pushed away, Gu Ping stood behind, snickering, while Xiao Sun took the opportunity to ask, ”Brother, what’s the best medicine for nourishing kidney yang?”

Du Heng saw that the next patient hadn’t entered yet, so he took advantage of the gap to explain, ”Generally, the Sexoton Pill is used, but for faster results or more severe cases, like the patient just now, some additional Medicine Ingredients should be used in combination.”

Hearing Du Heng start explaining, Gu Ping finally came to his senses and eagerly listened.

”For the patient just now, I prescribed prepared rehmannia to nourish the kidney and replenish essence, cornus to nourishing yin and astringe essence, and Chinese yam to supplement the kidney and secure essence. These three Medicine Ingredients combined can nourish kidney yin, liver blood, and spleen yin, thus nourishing yin and supplementing the kidney. By using other Medicine Ingredients to harmonize these three, it can have the effect of nourishing yin and supplementing yang.”

Seeing that all three of them were listening attentively, Du Heng couldn’t help but say a few more words, ”If you’re interested, you can take a look at this prescription later and figure out which Medicine Ingredients I used to harmonize the mixture and why I used them. If you don’t understand something, feel free to call or message me, and I’ll reply when I have the time.”

At these words, their smiles widened, and all three said in unison, ”Thank you, brother.”

”Thank you, Mr. Du.”

”Let me remind you, when performing syndrome differentiation for such Diseases, be sure to distinguish between kidney yang deficiency and kidney yin deficiency. If you get the diagnosis wrong, no medicine will work. For example, the Sexoton Pill I mentioned earlier, you may know that it’s good for kidneys, but it’s only effective for kidney yang deficiency. Those with kidney yin deficiency won’t find it helpful at all.”

Finally finding an opportunity, Gu Ping asked, ”Then how do you distinguish between kidney yang deficiency and kidney yin deficiency?”

Before Du Heng could say anything, Xiao Sun and the other intern looked at Gu Ping with great contempt.

This guy was too amateurish to be in their league, asking such basic questions.

Du Heng didn’t notice their gazes and just smiled and said, ”You can read about this question in books. I’ll ask you about it next time. For now, let’s welcome the patients. Everyone is getting anxious waiting.”

Gu Ping shrugged, ”Alright.”

The following consultations proceeded smoothly, with no particularly special cases or difficult patients.

As Du Heng’s pace was quite fast throughout the process, he noticed that by 12 o’clock, it seemed like the queue of patients was growing longer.

He quickly checked the number of people waiting in line in the system and found that there were over twenty more to go, which made him a bit puzzled.

When he started work in the morning, the number of people that he saw and had anticipated seemed about right – just over thirty.

Moreover, based on his consultation speed, talking time, and possible treatment processes, he should have finished his morning shift and be ready to go off-duty around 11 o’clock. But now it was clear that he wouldn’t be able to finish.

He counted the patients he had seen and those still waiting, and there were more than fifty in total.

After sending a patient away, Du Heng asked Xiao Sun, who was next to him, ”Do you usually have this many people for the outpatient service in the morning?”

Xiao Sun shook her head, ”No, normally there are about thirty in the morning and ten to twenty in the afternoon. It’s quite stable and has never been as many as today. Also, the registration window below adjusts accordingly. Unless a specific doctor is requested, there won’t be overcrowding.”

Du Heng scratched his chin, ”That’s strange. It’s my first day here, and yet there are so many people. Why is that?”

Xiao Sun smiled mysteriously and leaned in closer to Du Heng, ”Brother, Doctor Zheng from next door has left.”
