This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

With Zhao Bin leading the way, the group’s speed increased once again.

Entering the courtyard, Zhao Bin pointed to a room and said, ”The woman in childbirth is in this room, hurry inside!”

Huo Yinhua and her two companions followed the direction Zhao Bin indicated and rushed straight in. Soon, sounds of them arranging an examination could be heard from inside.

Du Heng didn’t go in immediately. He placed the stretcher on the ground and waited outside. In the village, it was taboo for men to enter the delivery room, especially during childbirth; no man had ever done so. To avoid unnecessary trouble, Du Heng chose to wait outside and would only enter if absolutely necessary.

”Zhao Bin, our ambulance has a flat tire. Hurry up and find someone to help the driver change the spare tire quickly. We’re ready to take the woman in childbirth away at any time.”

”I’ll go right now.”

Zhao Bin agreed and immediately turned around and ran out again.

Just as Zhao Bin left, two old women came out of the delivery room, one tall and one short.

The tall one looked worried, while the short one was completely distraught. As she emerged, she kept glancing back into the room, muttering repeatedly, ”Doctor, please, help us! Please!”

Seeing the state of the short woman, Du Heng guessed that she might be the mother-in-law of the woman in childbirth.

As the two women approached, Du Heng was about to ask about the woman in childbirth’s condition when the door curtain behind him was lifted again. Huo Yinhua walked out, her expression anxious.

”Dean, the woman in childbirth is very weak. Her blood pressure and pulse are very low, and she’s showing signs of weak uterine contractions. Most importantly, the fetus is in a transverse position.”

Fearing that Du Heng wouldn’t understand what full breech position meant, she quickly explained, ”Transverse position means the fetus is lying horizontally at the entrance of the pelvis...”

Du Heng interrupted quickly, ”No need to explain, I understand what transverse position is. Can you adjust the fetus’s position now and ensure a safe delivery?”

Huo Yinhua’s face was crestfallen. ”The best solution now is to rush the woman in childbirth to the hospital for a caesarean section surgery. I don’t know how to perform the combined version to adjust the fetal position, and I doubt many people do.”

Huo Yinhua wasn’t just making excuses. The combined version, as its name suggests, involves using purely manual techniques—either externally or internally on the pregnant woman—to correct an improperly positioned fetus, guiding it into the normal head-down (cephalic) position.

However, with technological advancements and the widespread use of prenatal examinations, abnormal fetal positions are usually detected before birth. This allows for early intervention, minimizing such issues.

Moreover, even if early intervention fails, a cesarean section can completely resolve the problem. While it’s widely known that cesarean sections can lead to various subsequent issues, such as intestinal adhesion and slower postpartum recovery, their advent has undeniably and greatly reduced the dangers associated with delivery problems like incorrect fetal position or umbilical cord entanglement. Furthermore, because an anesthetist is involved throughout the entire procedure, the mother feels no pain during the delivery. Its speed has also made it the foremost choice for many new mothers.

The widespread use of cesarean sections has made the combined version less important.

Du Heng didn’t immediately answer Huo Yinhua but picked up the phone and dialed the driver.

”How’s it going? Are the tires changed? The woman in childbirth needs to get to the hospital.”

The driver on Diana’s end exclaimed in frustration, ”Dean, we can’t go! I don’t know which bastard buried nails in the cracks between the bricks on this slope. Not only did one tire burst, but a rear tire is also leaking!”

Suddenly, Zhao Bin’s voice came through, ”President Du, I’ll go look for a car right now. If that doesn’t work, let’s use a tricycle to take her down.”

Du Heng gritted his teeth in annoyance. Such a thing could only be the work of those little hellions or someone truly malicious, intent on causing harm. He guessed it was 99% likely the former, because he himself had scattered glass shards on roads as a child.

As for Zhao Bin’s suggestion, Du Heng had already dismissed it. The woman in childbirth’s cervix was wide open; if the tricycle bumped all the way down the slope, he feared both mother and child would be lost.

He hung up the phone and turned to Huo Yinhua, saying, ”We can’t leave. Two tires are damaged.”

Huo Yinhua looked extremely anxious. ”Then what do we do?”

Du Heng took a deep breath, took out his mask and put it on. ”I’ll go in and take a look.”

He had just taken a step when the tall woman grabbed him. ”What do you think you’re doing, barging in there as a man? A man’s potent, fiery qi will harm the mother and child! Besides, how could this young wife face anyone after this? How could she go on living?”

Du Heng was also anxious. He looked coldly at the tall woman and asked, ”And who are you?”

”I’m the midwife they called. I’ve delivered over forty babies in my lifetime, and even I am helpless here. What can a man like you possibly do? You’re not trying to take advantage of her, are you?”

The tall woman looked at Du Heng with sudden disgust. ”To think you’d have such filthy thoughts at a time like this! Aren’t you ashamed of yourself?”

Du Heng was visibly angered and about to retort when Huo Yinhua cut in sharply, ”You old hag, stop talking utter filth! This is the Dean of our Health Clinic! He’s saved countless lives! How could he possibly be as despicable as you claim? You’re just judging him by your own low standards!”

Hearing Huo Yinhua leap to his defense, Du Heng suddenly felt a pang of guilt for secretly planning to get her transferred.
