This Doctor Is Too Wealthy

But regardless of the method, the patient must cooperate. If they are constantly in a depressing environment, they would still feel irritated, even if you played the funniest movie by the world’s greatest comedy master. This would have no effect at all and might even worsen their condition. Only by believing in themselves and cooperating with the treatment can they have a chance of healing.

So, in response to Zhang Long’s question, Du Heng answered with a very affirmative tone, ”Of course, this kind of illness is a piece of cake for me. I can tell you about a case I cured not too long ago.” With that, he recounted the disease record of Wang Shiyuan’s wife, omitting some parts of the backstory. ”You see, this kind of listlessness? I can cure it with just one dose. Your illness is not difficult for me at all.”

However, Fan Jimin seemed to find a loophole in Du Heng’s words. He asked in a low voice, ”You just said you cured that woman with one dose of medicine, so why does my illness take a week? Is my illness more serious than hers?”

How can these be compared? They’re two different illnesses!

Du Heng hurriedly explained, ”The dosage has nothing to do with the severity of the illness. The five doses of medicine I prescribed for you, to be taken over a week, cover not only the treatment time but also the time to consolidate the therapeutic effect. We can’t have the illness relapse right after it’s cured if you encounter something upsetting, can we?”

”I don’t want that. I want to completely cure it,” Fan Jimin said. ”I know my current state is wrong; I’m filled with negative emotions. But I can’t help thinking about it. Even now, I’m thinking you’re lying to me, that your medicine has no effect, and that you all might be laughing at me.”

Du Heng comforted him softly, ”My assistant and I are doctors. Doctors don’t laugh at patients. We only do our best to treat diseases and relieve patients from their suffering. Now, look back at your colleagues. Look at the concern in their eyes. They’re worried about you and pained to see you tormented by this illness. They would never laugh at you.”

”Alright, I’m willing to cooperate with your treatment,” Fan Jimin said, lowering his head again.

”I’ll prescribe medicine for you now.” After saying that, Du Heng took the prescription paper from Gu Ping’s hand and wrote the prescription himself: Rhizoma pinelliae, magnolia, perilla stem, poria...

While quickly writing the prescription, Du Heng casually asked, ”Do you have a girlfriend?”

However, he received no answer from Fan Jimin.

Zhang Long, who was beside them, hurriedly said, ”Yes, she works at our workplace and is in the same Department as Wu Shengnan.”

Du Heng turned to look at Wu Shengnan.

Wu Shengnan quickly affirmed, ”Yes, yes, Xiaoyu is his girlfriend.”

Just as Du Heng was about to speak, Fan Jimin interrupted, ”We’ve broken up.”

With that one sentence, the atmosphere instantly froze. The dejection in Fan Jimin’s voice was palpable.

”Nonsense!” Wu Shengnan refuted Fan Jimin. ”You two just had a fight. How could you break up? Xiaoyu told me just yesterday that she’s waiting for you to coax her, but you, being the clueless guy you are, haven’t made a move.”

Du Heng sighed silently. Asking someone with depression to coax a woman... good for them for even thinking of it.Push him too far, and he’ll destroy them all, one by one.

Du Heng ignored Wu Shengnan. After finishing the house, he looked up at Zhang Long. ”Since you’re Fan Jimin’s leader, can I request a week’s leave for him?”

”Yes, of course. Even two weeks would be fine,” Zhang Long agreed without hesitation.

But Fan Jimin was unwilling again. Lowering his head, he mumbled, ”I don’t want to.”

Du Heng looked at Fan Jimin, his voice softening once more. ”Didn’t you just promise to cooperate with my treatment? Why are you disagreeing now? Taking leave is part of the treatment. Let your girlfriend accompany you. You can watch movies, go shopping, climb a mountain, or enjoy a nice meal. Treat it as a vacation. Trust me, after a week, this tormenting illness will be gone, your girlfriend will be appeased, and you’ll be able to concentrate on your cases. The cases you need to handle surely aren’t so urgent they can’t wait a week.”

As soon as Du Heng finished speaking, Wu Shengnan immediately stepped forward. ”Wait for me! I’ll go find Xiaoyu now and ask for a week’s leave for her too. You two can treat it as a honeymoon!” With that, she hurriedly left the conference room.

Fan Jimin didn’t stop Wu Shengnan from making decisions on his behalf. It was apparent he still wanted to be with his girlfriend.

Watching Wu Shengnan’s retreating figure, Du Heng thought, this woman does have some redeeming qualities. At the very least, she’s quite perceptive.

Du Heng then began to explain to Fan Jimin how to take the medicine, reminding him of the necessary precautions. However, Wu Shengnan was gone for quite a while. Du Heng couldn’t just let Fan Jimin leave, so he started chatting about interesting anecdotes from life or work.

However, Fan Jimin wasn’t very talkative, so Du Heng did most of the talking, recounting amusing incidents he’d encountered while treating patients. For example, there was the patient whose family nearly buried him alive because he’d stopped breathing, the one saved by a bowl of child’s urine, and even someone who supposedly gave birth to a child by farting.

The men present all enjoyed such stories, and the atmosphere gradually became cheerful and relaxed. Just as everyone was laughing, Wu Shengnan returned, accompanied by a young girl in plainclothes. The girl’s eyes looked as if she had just been crying. As she entered, she wiped her eyes and forced a smile.
